ABSTRACT

Background & Objective: Colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is the third leading cause of cancer-caused death worldwide and constitutes about 6.48% of all malignancies in Egypt. Studying the molecular profile of CRC is essential for developing targeted therapies. STAT3 and CTLA4 expression are considered as molecular abnormalities involved in the CRC progression and chemo-resistance. Therefore, they could be used as potential therapeutic targets. This study aimed to evaluate pSTAT3 and CTLA4 expression levels and their possible roles as prognostic and predictive biomarkers in CRC using immunohistochemistry (IHC). Methods: This retrospective study included 113 CRC patients. Tissue microarrays were constructed, followed by pSTAT3 and CTLA4 antibodies immunostaining. Their expression was assessed and compared with the clinicopathological parameters and survival data. Results: Both pSTAT3 and CTLA4 overexpression were significantly associated with poor prognostic parameters, such as the presence of distant metastasis (P=0.02 & 0.03), high grade (P<0.001 & 0.03), high mitotic count (P<0.001 & 0.03), high tumor budding group (P=0.008 & 0.04), infiltrating tumor border (P<0.001 & 0.007) respectively, and advanced pathological stage with pSTAT3 (P=0.02). A significant association was found between overexpression of both markers and short overall survival. Correlations between the H-score of pSTAT3 and CTLA4 in CRC showed a significant positive correlation (P<0.001). Conclusion: STAT3 and CTLA4 positivity may be linked to the development and progression of the CRC, and they may provide potential prognostic indicators and therapeutic targets for CRC patients.

ABSTRACT

Lung cancer is a widely recognized cancer with a very low survival rate, as it is mostly diagnosed at advanced stages. The most prevalent type of lung cancer is non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). LncRNAs are widely involved in cancer progression and migration. Therefore, we intended to estimate the circulatory expression levels of LINC01559 and LINC01410 in NSCLC and their roles in tumor prognosis evaluation as less invasive potential markers. The relative expression levels of the plasma cell-free lncRNAs LINC01559 and LINC01410 in seventy patients with NSCLC and seventy healthy subjects as controls were measured by real-time PCR. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays were utilized to measure carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) concentrations. The LINC01559 and LINC01410 expression levels were significantly increased in NSCLC patients versus controls. Both lncRNAs showed good performance in the ROC curve analysis with high sensitivity and specificity for distinguishing patients from controls. LINC01559 had the highest AUC in the ROC curve analysis (0.96, 95 CI% CI: 0.93-0.99) for distinguishing patients from controls, while LINC01410 had the highest AUC (0.77, 95 CI% CI: 0.65-0.89) for differentiating metastatic tumors from nonmetastatic tumors. High expression levels of LINC01410 and LINC01559 were associated with low overall survival (log rank = 47.04 and 28.18, respectively, P < 0.001) and low progression-free survival (log rank = 40.68 and 28.77, respectively (P < 0.001)) and with the presence of metastasis. We suggest that LINC01559 and LINC01410 can be used as valuable, high-performing biomarkers in NSCLC diagnosis and prognosis prediction.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Healthcare workers have a significant chance of experiencing violence, with physical violence impacting anywhere from 8 to 38% of healthcare professionals throughout their careers. Besides physical abuse, many healthcare workers are subject to verbal aggression or threats, with patients and visitors being the most frequent sources of such incidents. Methods: This research examines the work atmosphere of healthcare professionals at Kasr Al-Aini University Hospital in Cairo, Egypt, during the pandemic. The study aims to evaluate the frequency of violence toward healthcare workers and health professionals training through a cross-sectional survey conducted among them. The research was conducted on Egyptian healthcare workers over 6 months, from November 2020 until the end of January 2021, using convenience sampling in a cross-sectional study. Over half of the respondents reported experiencing violence. Results: Among those who experienced violence, 93% reported verbal aggression, 43% reported physical and verbal abuse, and 59% claimed that violence increased during the pandemic. Additionally, 97% of those who experienced violence reported it occurring within the 4 months following the survey. About 42.5% of the respondents were female, and nearly 65% were over 30. 82% of the respondents did not receive training on handling violence while performing their job. Conclusion: This study highlights the high prevalence of verbal assaults in healthcare settings, primarily by patients' families or acquaintances. Despite reporting such incidents, most respondents did not see any significant government action. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic did not significantly change the frequency of violent incidents, indicating that the root causes of violence are systemic and extend beyond the pandemic. These findings underscore the need for systemic changes in healthcare organizations to address and prevent violence against healthcare workers.

ABSTRACT

Female Genital Mutilation / Cutting (FGM/C), also known as female circumcision, is a human rights violation and is still happening to date. Every woman or girl has the right to be protected from this harmful practice. Egypt has adopted a multi-layered strategy to end FGM/C nationwide. Even though considerable progress has been made throughout the country, the practice and inequality still exist. In 2021, The Egyptian Family Health Survey results showed a decrease in the prevalence of circumcision among ever-married women, reaching about 86%, compared to 92% in the latest public estimate of the Demographic Health Survey 2015, where 87% of all women between 15 and 49 years old are circumcised, of which 42.4% reported being circumcised by a healthcare professional (HCP) compared to a reported 47% in 2021. This study aimed to assess healthcare providers' knowledge, attitudes, and practices in two public hospitals in 2 governorates in Egypt using a validated questionnaire conducted among HCPs in Cairo (Urban) and Gharbia (Rural) governorates. A pre-tested questionnaire comprising 38 close-ended questions was used. The study population included 223 HCPs in Cairo and Gharbia governorates, of which 63.7% were women and 36.3% were men, with an average age of 42 years (42±5). 49.8% of the respondents are from an urban area. In the knowledge domain, the highest consequence identified was reduced sexual feelings. In attitudes, almost 63% believed that FGM/C should continue, while 65% agreed that the HCPs have a role in eliminating FGM/C. Almost 4% of our respondents have performed an FGM before, 45% had FGM in their household, and 62% would perform FGM on their daughters. HCPs' integration within the communities allows them to play a crucial role in preventing the practice. It is of utmost importance to compensate for the gap in the curricula of medical schools through informal learning activities and continuing medical education programs for sexual and reproductive health and rights and human rights, as legislation and law enforcement alone cannot eliminate FGM/C from society.

ABSTRACT

Objectives: We aim to characterize the serial quantitative apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) changes of the target disease volume using diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) acquired weekly during radiation therapy (RT) on a 1.5T MR-Linac and correlate these changes with tumor response and oncologic outcomes for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) patients as part of a programmatic R-IDEAL biomarker characterization effort. Methods: Thirty patients with pathologically confirmed HNSCC who received curative-intent RT at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, were included in this prospective study. Baseline and weekly Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) (weeks 1-6) were obtained, and various ADC parameters (mean, 5 th , 10 th , 20 th , 30 th , 40 th , 50 th , 60 th , 70 th , 80 th , 90 th and 95 th percentile) were extracted from the target regions of interest (ROIs). Baseline and weekly ADC parameters were correlated with response during RT, loco-regional control, and the development of recurrence using the Mann-Whitney U test. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to compare the weekly ADC versus baseline values. Weekly volumetric changes (Δvolume) for each ROI were correlated with ΔADC using Spearman's Rho test. Recursive partitioning analysis (RPA) was performed to identify the optimal ΔADC threshold associated with different oncologic outcomes. Results: There was an overall significant rise in all ADC parameters during different time points of RT compared to baseline values for both gross primary disease volume (GTV-P) and gross nodal disease volumes (GTV-N). The increased ADC values for GTV-P were statistically significant only for primary tumors achieving complete remission (CR) during RT. RPA identified GTV-P ΔADC 5 th percentile >13% at the 3 rd week of RT as the most significant parameter associated with CR for primary tumor during RT (p <0.001). Baseline ADC parameters for GTV-P and GTV-N didn't significantly correlate with response to RT or other oncologic outcomes. There was a significant decrease in residual volume of both GTV-P & GTV-N throughout the course of RT. Additionally, a significant negative correlation between mean ΔADC and Δvolume for GTV-P at the 3 rd and 4 th week of RT was detected (r = -0.39, p = 0.044 & r = -0.45, p = 0.019, respectively). Conclusion: Assessment of ADC kinetics at regular intervals throughout RT seems to be correlated with RT response. Further studies with larger cohorts and multi-institutional data are needed for validation of ΔADC as a model for prediction of response to RT.

ABSTRACT

Spraying a tertiary blend of the insecticides (hexythiazox, imidacloprid, and thiamethoxam), on tomato fruits, is a routine in agriculture-attentive countries. A simple green sample preparation technique was developed and applied to the field samples. Specific HP-TLC and RP-HPLC methodologies are established to estimate the residual insecticides and applied to the prepared field specimens. In the planner chromatographic methodology, methanol:chloroform:glacial acetic acid:triethyl amine (8.5:1.5:0.2:0.1, v/v) is recommended as a mobile system. The other one is columnar chromatography; acetonitrile: water (20:80, v/v), pH 2.8, is recommended as a mobile system. The validation parameters were examined following the ICH rules. The means percentages and standard deviations of the accuracy of the HP-TLC method for the determined compounds were 99.66 ± 0.974, 99.41 ± 0.950, and 99.89 ± 0.983, correspondingly. The values were 99.24 ± 0.921, 99.69 ± 0.681, and 99.20 ± 0.692, correspondingly, when they were determined by the RP-HPLC method. The relative standard deviation percentages of the methods' repeatability and intermediate precision ranged from 0.389 to 0.920. Both methods were highly specific having resolution factors of ≥ 1.78 and selectivity factors of ≥ 1.71. They were applied to the field samples perfectly.

ABSTRACT

Applications of analytical quality by design (QbD) approach for developing HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) methods for food components assays, and separations of complex natural product mixtures, are still limited. The current study developed and validated, for the first time, a stability-indicating HPLC method for simultaneous determinations of curcuminoids in Curcuma longa extracts, tablets, capsules, and curcuminoids' forced degradants under different experimental conditions. Towards separation strategy, critical method parameters (CMPs) were defined as the mobile phase solvents' percent-ratio, the pH of the mobile phase, and the stationary-phase column temperature, while the peaks resolution, retention time, and the number of theoretical plates were recognized as the critical method attributes (CMAs). Factorial experimental designs were used for method development, validation, and robustness evaluation of the procedure. The Monte Carlo simulation evaluated the developing method's operability, and that ensured the concurrent detections of curcuminoids in natural extracts, commercial-grade pharmaceutical dosage-forms, and the forced degradants of the curcuminoids in a single mixture. The optimum separations were accomplished using the mobile phase, consisting of an acetonitrile-phosphate buffer (54:46 v/v, 0.1 mM) with 1.0 mL/min flow rate, 33 °C column temperature, and 385 nm wavelength for UV (Ultra Violet) spectral detections. The method is specific, linear (R2 ≥ 0.999), precise (% RSD < 1.67%), and accurate (% recovery 98.76-99.89%), with LOD (Limit of Detection) and LOQ (Limit of Quantitation) at 0.024 and 0.075 µg/mL for the curcumin, 0.0105 µg/mL and 0.319 µg/mL for demethoxycurcumin, and 0.335 µg/mL and 1.015 µg/mL for the bisdemethoxycurcumin, respectively. The method is compatible, robust, precise, reproducible, and accurately quantifies the composition of the analyte mixture. It exemplifies the use of the QbD approach in acquiring design details for developing an improved analytical detection and quantification method.

ABSTRACT

Background: Youth represent 21% of the Egyptian population; such proportion can create a leading demographic power for economic development and transition. However, with the current COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is exposed to more than usual stressors, adding a burden to their mental health and well-being. Aim: This study aims to understand the pandemic's effect on youth's mental health in Egypt to strengthen the intervention areas needed to tackle such issues. Methods: This observational, analytical, cross-sectional study employed internet platforms of Facebook & WhatsApp groups for a web-based survey that included 412 respondents between 15 and 30 years old. RESULTS The median age of the respondents was 22 years. At least 30% reported increased violence in the street and/or household, and 27.4% of the respondents have considered visiting a psychiatrist during the last period. Conclusion: It is evident that the current situation is unprecedented and challenging for everyone; however, some populations are more vulnerable than others. Thus, it's important to support young people to ensure that the whole community can withstand the pandemic. The governments should support and mitigate some of the stresses that can be directly amended, like the education and job security concerns.

Background: Many of the pediatric health care workers (HCWs) suffered from sleep disturbance, anxiety, and potential stress disorder during the COVID-19 pandemic. Work-related stress is a potential cause of concern in HCWs and is associated with decreased job satisfaction, anxiety, depression, medical errors, and near misses. This study aims to investigate the various psychological consequences on medical personnel working in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Design and methods: A cross-sectional analytical study was conducted on a convenient sample of doctors and nurses working in NICU in pediatric hospitals at Cairo University teaching hospitals, Egypt. Two anonymous self-administered validated questionnaires were used to assess the level of stress, and the COVID-19 Rapid Quantitative Assessment Tool to assess the knowledge, attitude, and perception about COVID-19. Results: Among 96 participants, 66.7% were nurses, and 33.3% were physicians, 79.2% of the participants showed a reasonably safe level of stress. The mean work stress score was 43.89 ± 5.77. The mean score for commonly experienced stress symptoms was 7.53 ± 4.54, median 7, IQR (4, 10). Females and physicians were found to be with a statistically significantly higher median score of commonly experienced stress symptoms than males (p-value < 0.001 and 0.028 simultaneously). Conclusion: While such descriptive research provides valuable information on the scope of the problem, a strong theoretical framework is required to interpret these findings appropriately and develop preventive and therapeutic strategies. Particular attention should be warranted to the mental health well-being of women treating patients with COVID-19.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is of heterogeneous pathogenesis and caused by alterations of multiple genes. CircRNAs act as oncogenes or tumor suppressors in numerous tumors and could be novel diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. Few studies had incorporated circRNAs in AML. Aim of the Work: Assessment of circANXA2, circ0075001, and circFBXW7 gene expressions in AML patients. Evaluation of their relations with clinical, cytogenetic, and overall survival outcome to emphasize their diagnostic role and prognostic impact. Methods: This study was carried out on 120 subjects (66 AML patients and 54 controls). All subjects were subjected to gene expressions assay for circANXA2, circ0075001, circFBXW7 by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction. Results: Prominent overexpression of circANAX2 and circ0075001 in patients than control (P < 0.001), whereas circFBXW7 was markedly downregulated in patients than in control (P < 0.001). Moreover, circANXA2 with AUC 0.824, P <0.001, had a sensitivity of 74.24%, specificity 88.89% whereas circ0075001 with AUC 0.855, P < 0.001, had the highest sensitivity of 83.33% and specificity 79.63%, and circFBXW7 with AUC 0.826, P < 0.001, had a sensitivity of 75.76% and specificity 74.07% in the distinction of AML patients from controls. Additionally, we find out that high expression of circANXA2 and circ0075001 correlated significantly with splenomegaly, hepatomegaly, less differentiated FAB subtypes (M5, M7), short overall survival, and had an adverse cytogenetic pattern. Conclusion: CircANXA2, circ0075001, and circFBXW7 gene expressions could serve as potential diagnostic biomarkers for AML disease. Moreover, CircANXA2 and circ0075001 exert poor prognostic effects on AML patients.

BACKGROUND: Distinguishing vitiligo activity/stability status is pivotal in the management of patients with vitiligo. CXCL10 is a chemokine released in the tissues and sera of patients with vitiligo and an indicator of disease activity. AIM: This study aimed to assess the role of dermoscopy in detecting active and stable vitiligo by comparing the dermoscopic signs in vitiligo with Vitiligo Disease Activity Score (VIDA), clinical activity, and CXCL10 activity. METHODS: Ninety-seven patients with vitiligo were enrolled in this cross-sectional study. Vitiligo activity/stability was assessed using VIDA scores, clinical examination, dermoscopy, and serum CXCL10 levels measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay technique. Dermoscopic scores were calculated using BPLeFoSK score. RESULTS: The dermoscopic score was concordant with the VIDA score in 83.5% of patients (n = 81), clinical assessment in 97.9% (n = 95), and serum CXCL10 level in 70.1% (n = 68). Dermoscopic signs of ill-defined border, satellite lesions, and micro-Koebner and starburst appearance were more common in active vitiligo, while a well-defined border was more common in stable lesions. CONCLUSION: Dermoscopic examination is a practical, reliable, noninvasive, semi-objective tool in the assessment of vitiligo activity/stability that helps reach an informed decision on the disease status to choose the appropriate therapeutic modality.

BACKGROUND: Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has received marked attention globally. A worldwide call for social distancing occurred. Although the reduction of face-to-face consultation is required in order to reduce the risk of infection, dermatological services must be maintained in action and 'teledermatology' should be the solution.Materials & methods: We introduce a cross sectional observational study, demonstrating the patients' behavior regarding dermatological consultations in Cairo, Egypt in both private and Public practice. Synchronous (live interaction via What's app and Zoom) and asynchronous (What's app, emails) teledermatology models were used. After the end of the teleconsultation, patients were asked to fill a questionnaire adapted from the Telehealth Usability Questionnaire (TUQ). RESULTS: There was an overall satisfaction and future use score among the interviewed patients that received Teledermatology services of 91.0%, a usefulness score of 93.7%, interface and interaction quality scores of 85.9% and 87.0%, ease and use learnability score of 87.8% and reliability score of 86.7%. CONCLUSION: Teledermatology was efficient in triaging and treatment, hence, decreasing risk of COVID-19 exposure for the physician, the patient and the paramedical personel in heavily populated third world countries. Legislation is needed to sanction physician compensation for tele dermatology where this does not exist.

ABSTRACT

The present work is concerned with tailoring and appraisal of a novel nano-cargo; bilosomes (BLS) dual laded with doxylamine succinate (DAS) and pyridoxine hydrochloride (PDH), the first treatment option against gestational nausea and vomiting, for intranasal delivery. This bifunctional horizon could surmount constraints of orally-commercialized platforms both in dosage regimen and pharmacokinetic profile. For accomplishing this purpose, DAS/PDH-BLS were elaborated integrating phospholipid, sodium cholate and cholesterol applying thin-film hydration method based on Box-Behnken design. Utilizing Design-Expert® software, the effect of formulation variables on BLS physicochemical features alongside the optimal formulation selection were investigated. Then, the optimum DAS/PDH-BLS formulation was incorporated into a thermally-triggered in situ gelling base. The in vivo pharmacokinetic studies were explored in rats for intranasal DAS/PDH-BLS in situ gel compared with analogous intranasal free in situ gel and oral solution. The optimized BLS disclosed vesicle size of 243.23 nm, ζ potential of -31.33 mV, entrapment efficiency of 59.18 and 41.63%, accumulative % release within 8 h of 63.30 and 85.52% and accumulative permeated amount over 24 h of 347.92 and 195.4 µg/cm2 for DAS/PDH, respectively. Following intranasal administration of the inspected BLS in situ gel, pharmacokinetic studies revealed a 1.64- and 2.3-fold increment in the relative bioavailability of DAS and a 1.7- and 3.73-fold increase for PDH compared to the intranasal free in situ gel and oral solution, respectively besides significantly extended mean residence times for both drugs. Thus, the intranasally exploited DAS/PDH-BLS could be deemed as a promising hybrid nanoplatform with fruitful pharmacokinetics and tolerability traits.

Acne scars represent a therapeutic dilemma. This study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of combined subcision, autologous platelet-rich plasma (PRP), and chemical reconstruction of skin scars (CROSS) technique in the treatment of acne scars. In 20 patients with atrophic acne scars, one facial side was treated with subcision plus PRP, and the other was treated with the same combination plus CROSS technique (trichloroacetic acid 50%) for 3 sessions at 3-week intervals. Clinical evaluation, digital photography, quantitative global scarring grading system, and Lipper and Perez score were done at baseline, every session, and 1 month after the last session. Participants assessed their improvement at the end of the follow-up period using a scale (0 to 10). There was a significant reduction in quantitative global scarring grading system (P < .001) and Lipper and Perez score (P < .001) after treatment compared with baseline in both sides. No significant difference was found when the two treated sides were compared after treatment by both scores. Patients' satisfaction was excellent (12 patients [60%]) and good (eight patients [40%]) with no significant difference between both sides. In conclusion, combined subcision and PRP is recommended for acne scars. Adding CROSS technique (trichloroacetic acid 50%) did not further ameliorate the condition.

In the present study, we aimed to formulate, optimize, and characterize azithromycin chitosan coated niosomes (AZM-CTS-NSM) as a novel colloidal system that increases precorneal residence period, eye permeation, and bioavailability. AZM-NSM was formulated via a modified thin-film hydration strategy and then coated with CTS. We assessed the influence of the cholesterol: surfactant molar ratio, CTS concentration, and surfactant type on particle diameter, entrapment, zeta potential, and NSM adhesion force to the corneal mucosal membrane and employed a central composite design (CCD). The resulting optimized AZM-CTS-NSM has a mean diameter of 376 nm, entrapment of 74.2%, surface charge of 32.1 mV, and mucoadhesion force of 3114 dyne/cm2. The optimized AZM-CTS-NSM demonstrated a prolonged in vitro release behavior. When compared with commercial eye drops, the optimized AZM-CTS-NSM produced a 2.61-fold increase in the apparent permeability coefficient, significantly improving corneal permeability. Additionally, ocular irritation was assessed, with no major irritant effects found to be induced by the formulated NSM. Compared with AZM commercial drops, the optimized AZM-CTS-NSM revealed ˃ 3-fold increase in AZM concentration in the rabbit eyes. Collectively, these findings indicate that CTS-NSM is a potentially valuable ocular nanocarrier that could augment the efficacy of AZM.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To report the flash visual evoked potential (VEP) findings in children with primary congenital glaucoma (PCG) before and after successful surgical control of the intraocular pressure (IOP). METHODS: The study enrolled children presenting with PCG to the Ophthalmology Department of Alexandria Main University Hospital in the period between June and December 2019. All study participants were subjected to a standard protocol of examination, to confirm the diagnosis of PCG. The child was then referred for flash VEP testing. Peaks were designated as negative and positive waves in a numerical sequence (N1, P1, N2, P2, N3 and P3). The child was then scheduled for surgery within 1 week of presentation. Postoperative VEP testing was scheduled as soon as feasible and was conducted in the same way as the preoperative VEP testing. RESULTS: The study was conducted on 11 (four right) eyes of eight (five males) children. The mean ± standard deviation of the age of the study children at presentation and at postoperative VEP testing was 3.5 ± 1.6 and 5.1 ± 3.0 months, respectively. The study eyes mean ± standard deviation IOP at presentation and at postoperative VEP testing was 23.0 ± 6.7 and 8.3 ± 2.4 mmHg, respectively (p < 0.0001). There were a statistically insignificant reduction in P2 implicit time (p = 0.235) and a statistically insignificant increase in each of N1-P1 (p = 0.15) and N2-P2 (p = 0.67) amplitudes postoperatively than preoperatively. CONCLUSIONS: IOP elevation in PCG adversely affects the optic nerve function, but, at least in the short term, has no permanent detrimental effect on the optic nerve function as evidenced by the improvement in the VEP parameters.

BACKGROUND: Vitiligo is a pigmentary disorder associated with considerable psychological imbalance. Partial response to therapy and long duration for repigmentation are common. Meanwhile, camouflage may help through concealing vitiligo lesions and improving patient confidence and self-esteem. AIM: To assess the Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) in vitiligo patients, and to determine the patients' acceptance and willingness to utilize camouflage regularly and the impact of using camouflage as an adjuvant modality. PATIENTS/METHODS: The study was carried out on 100 vitiligo patients who underwent thorough history taking, clinical examination, and DLQI assessment. Forty patients were randomly chosen, taught how to apply camouflage, and followed up over 1 month of regular application. RESULTS: Dermatology Life Quality Index in the 100 vitiligo patients was found to be 12.2 ± 3.9, denoting the very large effect on quality of life vitiligo has. It was significantly worse in female patients, adolescents, students, and high-socioeconomic level patients, in visible sites and genitalia, and in unstable cases. There was a significant positive correlation between the DLQI and disease duration (r = 0.75, P < .001) and VES (r = 0.79, P < .001). The 40 cases on camouflage showed a significant percent reduction in their DLQI when compared to noncamouflage users (P: .00). CONCLUSIONS: Dermatology Life Quality Index is significantly affected by vitiligo. Camouflaging is a technique that needs to be taught to the patient to overcome the anticipated problems that drive them away from using it; especially, it significantly improves their DLQI in their devastating disease.

ABSTRACT

This study involves spectroscopic analysis of pesticide residues extracted from tomato, one of the most freshly eaten fruit all over the world. In Egypt, tomato can be protected against pests infection by concomitantly spraying three pesticides namely, acetamiprid (AC), flutolanil (FL) and etofenprox (ET). The three pesticides have been simply and efficiently extracted from the fruits and analyzed by applying the following methods: Differential dual wavelength method, where AC, FL and ET were determined by amplitudes subtraction at 264.8-277 nm, 229-241 nm and 225.6 and 243 nm, respectively after obtaining their first derivative spectra. Modified ratio difference method, where the difference in amplitude values at 261.2 and 241 nm, 273.4 and 236.8 nm and 269.8 and 232 nm was used for determination of AC, FL and ET, respectively. The third method includes recording the amplitudes at 284, 293 and 224 nm for AC, FL and ET, respectively, after mean centering of their spectra. The linear ranges were 1-11, 0.2-2.5 and 0.2-2.5 µg mL-1 for AC, FL and ET, respectively. The methods were proven to be green regarding the Eco-Scale calculations. The methods were efficiently applied for determination of AC, FL and ET in their commercial forms and field trials, where the residues were approximately equal to or below their specified maximum residue limits.

ABSTRACT

Combination of pesticides; acetamiprid, flutolanil and etofenprox are usually used for tomato fruits for protecting them against pest infection. Generally, pesticides, residues could be one of the health hazard sources. Two specific simple sensitive chromatographic methods are developed for simultaneous estimation of the concerning pesticides' residues using simple economic steps of field sample preparation. The first method is HP- TLC method. Hexane: methanol: acetone: glacial acetic acid (8:2:0.5:0.1, by volume) is proposed as a developing system. The second one is RP- HPLC. Acetonitrile: water (75:25, v/v) is proposed as a mobile phase. The recommended methods are completely validated regarding ICH guidelines. Their means percentages and standard deviations of accuracy range 100.32 ±â€¯0.89 to 99.27 ±â€¯0.9. The methods' repeatability and intermediate precision relative standard deviation percentages range 0.395-0.894. They are successfully applied for estimating the pesticides in pure and commercial forms and field samples.
