ABSTRACT

Radish (Raphanus sativus L.), a root vegetable belonging to the Brassicaceae family, is considered one of the representative crops displaying sporophytic self-incompatibility (SSI). The utilization of a self-incompatibility system in F1 breeding can improve the efficiency of cross-combinations, leading to a reduction in breeding time and aiding in the development of novel F1 varieties. The successful implementation of this system necessitates the rapid and accurate identification of S haplotypes in parental lines. In this study, we identified a total of nine S haplotypes among 22 elite radish lines through Sanger sequencing. Subsequently, we obtained sequences for showing a 95% similarity to nine S haplotypes, along with sequences identified by other researchers using BLAST. Following this, multiple sequence alignment (MSA) was conducted to identify SRK and SLG sequence similarities, as well as polymorphisms within the class I and II groups. Subsequently, S haplotype-specific marker sets were developed, targeting polymorphic regions of SRK and SLG alleles. These markers successfully amplified each of the nine S haplotypes. These markers will play a crucial role in the rapid and precise identification of parental S haplotypes in the radish F1 breeding process, proving instrumental in the radish F1 purity test.

ABSTRACT

A digital twin is a digital representation that closely resembles or replicates a real world object by combining interdisciplinary knowledge and advanced technologies. Digital twins have been applied to various fields, including to the agricultural field. Given big data and systematic data management, digital twins can be used for predicting future outcomes. In this study, we endeavor to create an agricultural digital twin using mandarins as a model crop. We employ an Open API to aggregate data from various sources across Jeju Island, covering an area of approximately 185,000 hectares. The collected data are visualized and analyzed at regional, inter-orchard, and intra-orchard scales. We observe that the intra-orchard analysis explains the variation of fruit quality substantially more than the inter-orchard analysis. Our data visualization and analysis, incorporating statistical models and machine learning algorithms, demonstrate the potential use of agricultural digital twins in the future, particularly in the context of micro-precision and individualized agriculture. This concept extends the current management practices based on data-driven decisions, and it offers a glimpse into the future of individualized agriculture by enabling customized treatment for plants, akin to personalized medicine for humans.

ABSTRACT

The phlorotannin-polycaprolactone-coated endotracheal tube (PP tube) has been developed with the aim of preventing tracheal stenosis that can result from endotracheal intubation, a factor that can lead to a serious airway obstruction. Its preventive efficacy has been assessed through both in vitro and in vivo investigations. However, there is a lack of studies concerning its biocompatibility and sub-chronic toxicity in animal models, a crucial factor to ensure the safety of its usage as a functional endotracheal tube. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate the biocompatibility and sub-chronic (13 weeks) toxicity of the PP tube through L929 cell line and diverse in vivo models. The cytotoxicity testing was performed using the extracts of PP tube on L929 cells for 72 h. Furthermore, other tests conducted on animal models, including ICR mice (acute systemic toxicity), New Zealand white rabbit (intradermal reactivity and pyrogen tests), guinea pig (maximization sensitization), and Sprague Dawley rats (sub-chronic toxicity). In both biocompatibility and sub-chronic toxicity analyses, no significant adverse effects are observed in the groups exposed to the PP tube, when compared to control group. Altogether, the findings suggested that the PP tube exhibits relative non-toxic and safety, supporting its suitability for clinical usage. However, extended periods of intubation may produce mild irritant responses, highlighting the clinical caution of limiting intubation duration to less than 13 weeks.

ABSTRACT

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: The mechanical properties of 3 dimensionally (3D) printed zirconia have been reported to be comparable with those of milled zirconia, except for the flexural strength. However, most previous studies tested 3 mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal (3Y-TZP), making it necessary to study 3D printed zirconia with 4 mol% yttria content (4Y-TZP). PURPOSE: The purpose of this in vitro study was to compare the flexural strength of 3D printed 4Y-TZP with 3Y-TZP materials and milled 4Y-TZP. MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 80 disk specimens (Ø15×1.5 mm) were fabricated and divided into 4 groups (n=20) using the fabrication method and yttria content: milled 3Y-TZP (Katana HT; Kuraray Noritake), 3D printed 3Y-TZP (TZ-3Y-E; Tosoh), milled 4Y-TZP (Katana STML; Kuraray Noritake), and 3D printed 4Y-TZP (3DMAT; Genoss). The biaxial flexural strength was determined with a piston-on-3-ball test (n=15). The flexural strength of each specimen was measured, and the Weibull modulus (m) and characteristic strength (σ0) were estimated from the fracture load distribution. Two intact and fractured specimens were examined with scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The crystalline phase of the specimens in each group was identified through X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis (n=5). A 1-way ANOVA was used to compare the flexural strength among different groups. Subsequently, pairwise comparisons were conducted with the Tukey post hoc method (α=.05). RESULTS: The flexural strength of 3D printed 4Y-TZP was significantly higher than that of milled 4Y-TZP (P<.001). In contrast, the flexural strength of 3D printed 3Y-TZP was significantly lower than that of milled 3Y-TZP (P<.001). X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed that the tetragonal phase was the dominant phase in all groups, with the identification of some cubic phase peaks. CONCLUSIONS: Three dimensionally printed 4Y-TZP showed significantly higher flexural strength than milled 4Y-TZP and exhibited a clinically acceptable flexural strength exceeding 800 MPa.

ABSTRACT

Nymphoides peltata has been used as a medicinal herb in traditional medicines to treat strangury, polyuria, and swelling. The phytochemical investigation of the MeOH extract of N. peltata roots led to the isolation of three iridoid glycosides and three coumarin glycoside derivatives, which were characterized as menthiafolin (1), threoninosecologanin (2), callicoside C (3), and scopolin (4), as well as two undescribed peltatamarins A (5) and B (6). The chemical structures of the undescribed compounds were determined by analyzing their 1 dimensional (D) and 2D nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectra and using high-resolution (HR)-electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (ESI-MS), along with the chemical reaction of acid hydrolysis. The wound healing activities of the isolated compounds 1-6 were evaluated using a HaCaT cell scratch test. Among the isolates, scopolin (4) and peltatamarin A (5) promoted HaCaT cell migration over scratch wounds, and compound 5 was the most effective. Furthermore, compound 5 significantly promoted cell migration without adversely affecting cell proliferation, even when treated at a high dose (100 µM). Our results demonstrate that peltatamarin A (5), isolated from N. peltata roots, has the potential for wound healing effects.

ABSTRACT

Periodontitis is a common chronic inflammatory disease of the supporting tissues of the tooth that involves a complex interaction of microorganisms and various cell lines around the infected site. To prevent and treat this disease, several options are available, such as scaling, root planning, antibiotic treatment, and dental surgeries, depending on the stage of the disease. However, these treatments can have various side effects, including additional inflammatory responses, chronic wounds, and the need for secondary surgery. Consequently, numerous studies have focused on developing new therapeutic agents for more effective periodontitis treatment. This review explores the latest trends in bioactive substances with therapeutic effects for periodontitis using various search engines. Therefore, this study aimed to suggest effective directions for therapeutic approaches. Additionally, we provide a summary of the current applications and underlying mechanisms of bioactive substances, which can serve as a reference for the development of periodontitis treatments.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: A precise oncologic approach for head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is necessary. We performed a genomic profile-based umbrella trial for the patients with platinum-refractory recurrent and/or metastatic HNSCC. METHODS: In this multicenter, open-label, single-arm phase II trial, we performed targeted next-generation sequencing (NGS). Patients were assigned to each treatment arm on the basis of their matching genomic profiles: arm 1, alpelisib, a PIK3CA inhibitor; arm 2, poziotinib, an epidermal growth factor receptor/HER2 inhibitor; arm 3, nintedanib, an fibroblast growth factor receptor inhibitor; and arm 4, abemaciclib, a CDK4/6 inhibitor. If there was no matching target, patients were allocated to arm 5, duvalumab ± tremelimumab, anti-PD-L1/cytotoxic T-cell lymphocyte-4 inhibitor. When progressive disease (PD) occurred in arms 1-4, cross over to arm 5 was allowed. The primary end point was disease control rate (DCR) in arm 1 and overall response rate (ORR) in arms 2-5 by investigator assessment. RESULTS: Between October 2017 and August 2020, 203 patients were enrolled, including crossover. In arm 1, the ORR was 21.2% and DCR was 65.6%. The ORR was 0% for arm 2, 42.9% for arm 3, 0% for arm 4, and 15.6% for arm 5. In the case of PD with durvalumab, tremelimumab was added, and the ORR for durvalumab + tremelimumab was 2.2%. The median progression-free survival was 3.4, 3.2, 5.6, 1.6, and 1.7 months for each arm, respectively. The median overall survival was 12.4, 6.1, 11.1, 9.1, and 12.7 months, respectively. Overall, the toxicity profiles were manageable, and there were no treatment-related deaths. CONCLUSION: To our knowledge, this study is the first biomarker-driven umbrella trial for platinum-refractory HNSCC using matched molecular targeted agents. We found that NGS-based genomic phenotyping was methodologically feasible and applicable.

STATEMENT OF PROBLEM: Printing conditions can affect the fit of a 3-dimensionally (3D) printed prosthesis. Therefore, it is important to determine the optimal printing conditions for stereolithography (SLA)-manufactured prostheses. PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the fit according to the build orientations and layer thicknesses in SLA-manufactured 3-unit resin prostheses. MATERIAL AND METHODS: SLA 3D printed prostheses were produced in 5 build orientations (0, 30, 45, 60, and 90 degrees) and 2 layer thicknesses (50 and 100 µm). Milled prostheses were fabricated from the same design. The mounted prostheses on the master model were scanned with microcomputed tomography (µCT). Data were processed with the NRecon software program. For quantitative analysis, marginal and internal fits were measured by using the imageJ software program in terms of the following metrics: absolute marginal discrepancy, marginal gap, cervical area, midaxial wall area, line-angle area, and occlusal area. Internal gap volume was also measured with the CTAn software program. For statistical analysis, ANOVA and Tukey HSD tests were used (α=.05). For qualitative analysis, µCT cross-sections were compared among groups, and intaglio surfaces were imaged with a scanning electron microscope. RESULTS: A layer thickness of 50 µm with build orientations of 45 and 60 degrees exhibited smaller mean gap values (P<.05) than the other conditions for all measurements except line-angle area and occlusal area. The scanning electron microscope images showed voids on the intaglio surfaces for the 0- and 90-degree groups. CONCLUSIONS: For SLA 3D printed resin prostheses, a difference in fit occurred based on the printing conditions, although both 3D printed and milled prostheses showed a clinically acceptable fit. When an SLA 3D printed prosthesis is manufactured under appropriate conditions, a clinically acceptable fit can be obtained.

ABSTRACT

The design and development of wound dressing with antioxidant and antibacterial properties to accelerate wound healing remain challenging. In this study, we synthesize a chitooligosaccharide-gentisic acid (COS-GSA) conjugate using the free-radical grafting method, and fabricate a poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA)/chitosan (CH)/COS-GSA (PVA/CH/CG) hydrogel using a freeze-thaw method. We characterize the synthesized COS-GSA conjugates using through polyphenol assay, absorbance, and 1H NMR spectroscopy and evaluate their antioxidant properties. The COS-GSA conjugates are successfully synthesized and exhibit better antioxidant properties than pristine COSs. Subsequently, the fabricated hydrogel is characterized based on its morphological analysis, rheological properties, water contact angle, swelling, degradation, water retention properties, and COS-GSA release profiles. Finally, the biocompatibility of the fabricated hydrogel is evaluated on HDF and HaCaT cells through indirect and direct cytotoxicity. The PVA/CH/CG hydrogel exhibited significantly higher antioxidant properties (DPPH, 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS), and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) scavenging activities) and antibacterial activities (Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) compared to other fabricated hydrogels such as PVA, PVA/CH, and PVA/CH/COS (PVA/CH/C). These results provide evidence that PVA/CH/CG hydrogels with antioxidant, antibacterial, and non-cytotoxic properties have great potential for wound-dressing applications.

BACKGROUND: The study on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) of disabled patients is rare but critical for welfare of patients. The aim of this study was to examine the effect of fixed implants in edentulous areas on OHRQoL in Korean disabled patients. METHODS: The OHRQoL of 63 disabled individuals was evaluated using the Oral Health Impact Profile (OHIP)-14 questionnaires and studied by potential affecting variables such as age, sex, disability severity, and time of disability acquisition. Wilcoxon-signed rank tests were used to examine the OHIP-14 scores for those who had pre/post-fixed implants. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to examine the relationships between factors and OHIP-14 scores before and after implants. A partial correlation analysis was also performed to determine which variables influenced OHIP-14 scores before and after treatment. The Mann-Whitney test was employed for sex and time of disability acquisition analysis (α = 0.05). RESULTS: Significant improvement was found in OHIP-14 post-implant treatment scores (P < .001). After implant treatment, the severity of disability produced significantly different results (P = .009). Pearson's correlation coefficient between severity of disability and pre/post-implant OHIP-14 scores was 0.265 (P = .030). After controlling for severity of disability, the results showed older patients had lower OHIP-14 scores (P = .032). No differences were found for sex or time of disability acquisition (congenital vs. acquired). CONCLUSIONS: Fixed implant treatment improved OHRQoL for disabled patients, and the severity of disability was positively correlated with improvement of OHRQoL. For patients with a similar level of disability, the OHRQoL decreased with age.

ABSTRACT

Nymphoides peltata (Menyanthaceae) has been used as a medicinal herb in traditional medicines to treat conditions such as strangury, polyuria, swelling, and as a diuretic and antipyretic. In our ongoing research to discover novel structural and/or biological natural products in natural resources, five flavonoids, quercetin (1), quercitrin (2), isoquercetin (3), quercetin-3-O-vicianoside (4), and rutin (5), as well as a new flavonoid glycoside, 3‴-O-foliamenthoyl-rutin (6), were isolated from the MeOH extract of N. peltata roots. The chemical structure of the new compound (6) was determined by analyzing 1D and 2D NMR spectra and high-resolution (HR) electrospray ionization mass spectroscopy (ESIMS), along with a chemical reaction. The wound-healing activities of the isolated compounds (1-6) were evaluated using a HaCaT cell scratch test. Among the isolates, isoquercetin (3), quercetin-3-O-vicianoside (4), and 3‴-O-foliamenthoyl-rutin (6) promoted HaCaT cell migration over scratch wounds, with compound 4 being the most effective. Our findings provide experimental data supporting the potential of quercetin-3-O-vicianoside (4) as a wound-healing agent.

ABSTRACT

A new calicivirus isolated from a walrus was reported in 2004. Since unknown marine mammalian zoonotic viruses could pose great risks to human health, this study aimed to develop therapeutic countermeasures to quell any potential outbreak of a pandemic caused by this virus. We first generated a 3D model of the walrus calicivirus capsid protein and identified compounds from marine natural products, especially phlorotannins, as potential walrus calicivirus inhibitors. A 3D model of the target protein was generated using homology modeling based on two publicly available template sequences. The sequence of the capsid protein exhibited 31.3% identity and 42.7% similarity with the reference templates. The accuracy and reliability of the predicted residues were validated via Ramachandran plotting. Molecular docking simulations were performed between the capsid protein 3D model and 17 phlorotannins. Among them, five phlorotannins demonstrated markedly stable docking profiles; in particular, 2,7-phloroglucinol-6,6-bieckol showed favorable structural integrity and stability during molecular dynamics simulations. The results indicate that the phlorotannins are promising walrus calicivirus inhibitors. Overall, the study findings showcase the rapid turnaround of in silico-based drug discovery approaches, providing useful insights for developing potential therapies against novel pathogenic viruses, especially when the 3D structures of the viruses remain experimentally unknown.

PURPOSE: To compare the fit of 3D-printed titanium (Ti) and cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) abutments with implants to computer numerical control (CNC)-milled, ready-made abutment-implant assemblies. Their clinical applicability was also evaluated by measuring removal torque values (RTVs) and percentage torque loss of abutment screws. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 138 abutments were included in the study: 92 abutments were fabricated with Ti and Co-Cr alloys using computer-assisted design (CAD) through selective laser melting, and 46 ready-made abutments were prepared. The fit of interfaces between 90 abutments from the three groups (30 ready-made, 30 3D-printed Ti, and 30 3D-printed Co-Cr abutments) and implant assemblies was demonstrated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and confocal scanning laser microscopy (CSLM). After 30-Ncm torque tightening of Ti abutment screws twice within 10 minutes, the RTVs and percentage torque loss of screws of 48 abutments (16 ready-made, 16 3D-printed Ti, and 16 3D-printed Co-Cr) were evaluated after 10 minutes of thermocycling and cyclic loading. RESULTS: The fits of 3D-printed Co-Cr abutments were not statistically different from those of ready-made abutments (P = .383), while the fit of 3D-printed Ti abutments was inadequate (P < .001). The RTVs of 3D-printed abutments after cyclic loading were significantly decreased compared with those of CNC-milled abutments (P < .001). CONCLUSION: The fit of interfaces between 3D-printed Co-Cr abutments and implants was adequate. The RTVs of 3D-printed Co-Cr abutments were not significantly different from those of CNC-milled abutments after 10 minutes of 30-Ncm torque tightening and thermocycling.

BACKGROUND: Managing and investigating all available genetic resources are challenging. As an alternative, breeders and researchers use core collection-a representative subset of the entire collection. A good core is characterized by high genetic diversity and low repetitiveness. Among the several available software, GenoCore uses a coverage criterion that does not require computationally expensive distance-based metrics. RESULTS: ShinyCore is a new method to select a core collection through two phases. The first phase uses the coverage criterion to quickly attain a fixed coverage, and the second phase uses a newly devised score (referred to as the rarity score) to further enhance diversity. It can attain a fixed coverage faster than a currently available algorithm devised for the coverage criterion, so it will benefit users who have big data. ShinyCore attains the minimum coverage specified by a user faster than GenoCore, and it then seeks to add entries with the rarest allele for each marker. Therefore, measures of genetic diversity and distance can be improved. CONCLUSION: Although GenoCore is a fast algorithm, its implementation is difficult for those unfamiliar with R, ShinyCore can be easily implemented in Shiny with RStudio and an interactive web applet is available for those who are not familiar with programming languages.

ABSTRACT

Aqueous rechargeable battery has been an intense topic of research recently due to the significant safety issues of conventional Li-ion batteries (LIBs). Amongst the various candidates of aqueous batteries, aqueous zinc ion batteries (AZIBs) hold great promise as a next generation safe energy storage device due to its low cost, abundance in nature, low toxicity, environmental friendliness, low redox potential, and high theoretical capacity. Yet, the promise has not been realized due to their limitations, such as lower capacity compared to traditional LIB, dendrite growth, detrimental degradation of electrode materials structure as ions intercalate/de-intercalate, and gas evolution/corrosion at the electrodes, which remains a significant challenge. To address the challenges, various 2D materials with different physiochemical characteristics have been utilized. This review explores fundamental physiochemical characteristics of widely used 2D materials in AZIBs, including graphene, MoS2, MXenes, 2D metal organic framework, 2D covalent organic framework, and 2D transition metal oxides, and how their characteristics have been utilized or modified to address the challenges in AZIBs. The review also provides insights and perspectives on how 2D materials can help to realize the full potential of AZIBs for next-generation safe and reliable energy storage devices.

ABSTRACT

Bunium persicum is a valuable medicinal plant with limited production but high market demand. It thrives predominantly in high-altitude regions. The main challenges hindering its widespread cultivation are seed dormancy and a lengthy seed-to-seed cycle, making its large-scale cultivation difficult. Six genotypes of Bunium persicum were collected from different altitudes to evaluate its germination behavior and seed dormancy. The study was conducted during 2020-23 and comprised three experiments (viz., seed germination under an open field, controlled conditions, and micro-tuberization). Under open field conditions, germination percent was genotype dependent, and the highest germination percentage, root length, and shoot length were recorded in Shalimar Kalazeera-1. Germination behavior assessment of the Bunium persicum revealed that treatment T9 (GA3 (25 ppm) + TDZ (9 µM/L)) is effective in breaking the dormancy of Bunium persicum as well as in obtaining a higher germination percent for early development of the tubers. Similarly, with regard to the effect of temperature and moisture conditions, stratification under moist chilling conditions showed effectiveness in breaking seed dormancy as the germination percentage in stratified seeds was at par with the most efficient growth hormone. With regard to the in vitro micro-propagation, direct regeneration showed multiple shoot primordia at the base of the tubers without intervening callus phase from the MS medium supplemented with BA (22.2 µM) and NAA (13.95 µM) 4 weeks after sub-culturing. Similarly, medium supplemented with JA (8.0 mg/L) and BA (22.2 µM) produced well-organized somatic embryos with shiny surfaces, which appeared at the swelled basal portion of apical stems. Further, the combination of JA (6.0 mg/L) and BA (22.2 M) was effective in developing the micro-tubers and also enhanced the weight and length of Bunium persicum micro-tubers.

The objective of this study was to prepare an angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE)-inhibitory peptide from the hydrothermal vent mussel, Gigantidas vrijenhoeki. The G. vrijenhoeki protein was hydrolyzed by various hydrolytic enzymes. The peptic hydrolysate exhibited the highest ACE-inhibitory activity and was fractionated into four molecular weight ranges by ultrafiltration. The <1 kDa fraction exhibited the highest ACE inhibitory activity and was found to have 11 peptide sequences. Among the analyzed peptides, KLLWNGKM exhibited stronger ACE inhibitory activity and an IC50 value of 0.007 µM. To investigate the ACE-inhibitory activity of the analyzed peptides, a molecular docking study was performed. KLLWNGKM exhibited the highest binding energy (-1317.01 kcal/mol), which was mainly attributed to the formation of hydrogen bonds with the ACE active pockets, zinc-binding motif, and zinc ion. These results indicate that G. vrijenhoeki-derived peptides can serve as nutritional and pharmacological candidates for controlling blood pressure.

ABSTRACT

Polydeoxyribonucleotide (PDRN) is a DNA-derived drug extracted from the sperm cells of Oncorhynchus mykiss or O. keta. PDRN exhibits wound healing and anti-inflammatory activities by activating adenosine A2A receptor and salvage pathways. However, commercial PDRN products (e.g., Placentex, Rejuvenex, and HiDr) have limitations as they are exclusively extracted O. mykiss and O. keta, which are expensive and can only be used as extraction sources during a specific period when their sperm cells are activated. Therefore, this study aimed to extract PDRN from Porphyra sp. (Ps-PDRN) and investigate whether it has anti-inflammatory activity through a comparative study with commercial product. The results indicated that Ps-PDRN had an anti-inflammatory effect on Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharides (LPS)-stimulated RAW 264.7 macrophages. It inhibited nitric oxide production and inducible nitric oxygen synthase protein expression by suppressing phosphorylation of p38 and ERK, without cytotoxicity. Furthermore, Ps-PDRN promoted cell proliferation and collagen production in human dermal fibroblast. In conclusion, our study confirms that Ps-PDRN exhibits both anti-inflammatory and cell proliferative effects. These results indicated that Ps-PDRN has the potential as a bioactive drug for tissue engineering.

ABSTRACT

Microalgae are proposed to have powerful applications for human health in the pharmaceutical and food industries. Tetraselmis species (sp.), which are green microalgae, were identified as a source of broad-spectrum health-promoting biological activities. However, the bioactivity of these species has not been elucidated. We aimed to confirm the antioxidant, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory effects of Tetraselmis sp. extract (TEE). TEE showed 2,2-diphenyl-1-picryl-hydrazyl-hydrate radical and hydrogen peroxide scavenging activities and reduced plaque formation in Vero E6 cells infected with vaccinia virus. TEE treatment also significantly inhibited nitric oxide (NO) production and improved cell viability in lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced RAW264.7 cells. These anti-inflammatory effects were further analyzed in LPS-induced RAW 264.7 cells and the zebrafish model. Further, TEE reduced induced NO synthase expression and proinflammatory cytokine release, including tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-6, and interleukin-1ß, through MAPKs and NF-κB-dependent mechanisms. Further analysis revealed that TEE increased the survival rate and reduced cell death and NO production in an LPS-stimulated zebrafish model. Further, high-performance liquid chromatography revealed a strong presence of the carotenoid lutein in TEE. Overall, the results suggest that lutein-enriched TEE may be a potent antioxidant, antiviral, and anti-inflammatory agent that could be sustainably utilized in industrial applications.
