ABSTRACT

This study demonstrates whether analysts' sentiments toward individual stocks are useful for stock investment strategies. This is achieved by using natural language processing to create a polarity index from textual information in analyst reports. In this study, we performed time series forecasting for the created polarity index using deep learning, and clustered the forecasted values by volatility using a regime switching model. In addition, we constructed a portfolio from stock data and rebalanced it at each change point of the regime. Consequently, the investment strategy proposed in this study outperforms the benchmark portfolio in terms of returns. This suggests that the polarity index is useful for constructing stock investment strategies.

ABSTRACT

With the aging of the population of Japan and Westernization of the dietary life, the number of cases in which cardiovascular diseases are merged in non-cardiac surgery is increasing year by year. Many of the abdominal aortic aneurysms are asymptomatic and it is not uncommon to be discovered accidentally in preoperative examination of non-cardiac surgery. When gastrointestinal surgery involves malignant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and abdominal aortic aneurysm, the two life prognosis-related diseases are merged, depending on the severity and urgency of the disease for each case, its treatment to determine the priority order.Abdominal aortic aneurysm occurred at the time of malignant disease surgery in 14 cases of gastrointestinal cancer patients who underwent surgery at the department during the 5 years from 2012 to 2016.T he actual condition of treatment for these cases was investigated.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Parkinson's disease (PD) patients often suffer from cardiac sympathetic denervation, a hallmark of which is orthostatic hypotension. Denervation supersensitivity to sympathomimetic drugs is also seen in such patients, and this phenomenon is important and can be sometimes dangerous. CASE PRESENTATION: A 65-year-old male underwent gastrojejunostomy. The patient had severe PD and did not exhibit metaiodobenzylguanidine (MIBG) accumulation in his heart, which was indicative of cardiac sympathetic nerve denervation. When 8 mg of ephedrine was administered intravenously, an unexpectedly large increase in blood pressure was observed. The phenomenon recurred when 4 mg of ephedrine was administered again, and nicardipine was required to suppress the patient's blood pressure. CONCLUSIONS: Denervation supersensitivity is not as well recognized as other complications seen in PD patients, but anesthesiologists should be aware of it because sympathomimetic drugs can have excessively strong effects in patients with the condition.

ABSTRACT

The morphology and layered structure of an alkyl ammonium bromide ultrathin film prepared on an aqueous solution of lead bromide were investigated on the basis of surface pressure-area curve measurements, reflection spectrum measurements, X-ray reflectivity measurements and atomic force microscopic observations. It became apparent that the layered structure sandwiched a two-dimensional inorganic layer between two organic monolayers was formed by folding the monolayer by compression on an aqueous PbBr2 solution.

ABSTRACT

The incidence of a tracheal bronchus--that is, a congenitally abnormal bronchus originating from the trachea or main bronchi--is 0.1%-2%. Serious hypoxia and atelectasis can develop in such patients with intubation and one-lung ventilation. We experienced a remarkable decrease in peripheral oxygen saturation (SpO2) and a rise in airway pressure during placement of a double-lumen endobronchial tube in a patient with patent ductus arteriosus and tracheal bronchus. Substitution of the double-lumen tube with a bronchial blocker tube provided secure isolation of the lung intraoperatively. A type I tracheal bronchus and segmental tracheal stenosis were identified on postoperative three-dimensional (3D) computed tomographic (CT) images. Preoperative examination of chest X-rays, CT images, and preoperative tracheal 3D images should preempt such complications and assist in securing safe and optimal one-lung ventilation.

ABSTRACT

The culture broth of Daedalea dickinsii was found to predominantly contain the tyrosinase inhibitor, (2R)-6-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-2-methyl-2H-chromene, daedalin A (1). Ongoing research into bioactive metabolites resulted in the identification of two new 2H-chromenes, 6-hydroxy-5,7-dimethoxy-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromene (3) and 6-hydroxy-2-hydroxymethyl-5-methoxy-2-methyl-2H-chromene (4), together with 6-hydroxy-2,2-dimethyl-2H-chromene (2). Comparative studies of isolated compounds 1-4 and related compounds (+/-)-1 and 1a-1c showed 1 to have the strongest tyrosinase inhibitory activity. These results suggest that the hydroxyl groups at positions 6 and 9 of 1 were important for the potent activity. A Lineweaver-Burk plot for a kinetic analysis indicates that 1 competed with L-tyrosine for tyrosinase. Compound 1 also suppressed melanogenesis in a human skin model (up to 49% at 2.8 micromol/tissue application) without affecting the cell viability. Compounds 1, 1b and 1c also showed 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity comparable to that of alpha-tocopherol.
