ABSTRACT

When new-born mice are subjected to acute maternal separation stress, cow-milk based formula feeding, and brief recurrent hypoxia with cold stress, they develop gut inflammation similar to the phenotype of neonatal necrotizing enterocolitis, characterised by an increase in gut mucosal effector T (Teffs) and reduced Foxp3+ regulatory T (Tregs) cells. The imbalance can be prevented by probiotic Limosilactobacillus reuteri DSM 17938 (LR 17938). We hypothesised that LR 17938 could potentiate a tolerogenic function of Tregs. To analyse whether LR 17938 can educate Tregs to improve their tolerogenic potency during neonatal stress, we isolated T cells (Tregs and Teffs) from 'donor' mice fed with either LR 17938 (107 cfu) or control media. The cells were adoptively transferred (AT) by intraperitoneal injection (5 × 105 cells/mouse) to new-born (d5) recipient mice. Mice were then separated from their dams, fed formula by gavage, and exposed to hypoxia and cold stress (NeoStress) for 4 days. We analysed the percentage of Tregs in CD4+T helper cells in the intestine (INT) and mesenteric lymph nodes (MLN) of recipient mice. We found that: (1) the percentage of Tregs in the INT and MLN following NeoStress were significantly reduced compared to dam-fed unstressed mice; (2) AT of either naïve Tregs or LR-educated Tregs to mice with Neostress increased the percentage of Tregs in the INT and MLN compared to the percentage in NeoStress mice without Treg treatment; however, LR-educated Tregs increased the Tregs significantly more than naïve Tregs; and (3) AT of LR-educated Tregs reduced pro-inflammatory CD44+Foxp3-NonTregs and inflammatory CX3CR1+ dendritic cells in the intestinal mucosa of NeoStress mice. In conclusion, adoptive transfer of Tregs promotes the generation of and/or migration of endogenous Tregs in the intestinal mucosa of recipient mice. Importantly, probiotic-educated Tregs are more potent than naïve Tregs to enhance immune tolerance following neonatal stress.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To translate and cross-culturally adapt the Brief Illness Perception Questionnaire (BIPQ) and the Beliefs about Medicines Questionnaire (BMQ) into Vietnamese. METHODS: We followed the guideline by Beaton et al. (2000 & 2007). Stage I: two translators (informed and uninformed) translated the questionnaires. Stage II: the translations were synthesised. Stage III: back translation was performed by two translators fluent in both Vietnamese and English but naïve to the outcome measurement. Stage IV: seven experts reached consensus on the pre-final Vietnamese version (BIPQ-V and BMQ-V). Stage V: field test of the questionnaires on 16 twelve-year-old students and 31 Vietnamese patients. In addition, we determined the internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the questionnaires in 34 Vietnamese patients with acute coronary syndrome. RESULTS: All experts agreed that there was semantic, idiomatic, experiential and conceptual equivalence between the original and pre-final Vietnamese versions of the BIPQ and BMQ. Cronbach's alpha coefficients of the internal consistency were acceptable for the BMQ-V Specific-Necessity (0.64), BMQ-V Specific-Concerns (0.62) and BMQ-V General-Harm (0.60), with the exception of BMQ-V General-Overuse (0.27). Intra-class correlation coefficients of the test-retest reliability were acceptable for the subscales of BMQ-V (range: 0.77-0.86), and BIPQ-V items (range: 0.62-0.85) with the exception of BIPQ-V 1 (0.44, 95% CI -014 to 0.72) and BIPQ-V 4 (0.57, 95% CI 0.22-0.81). CONCLUSIONS: The Vietnamese version of BIPQ and BMQ are reliable tools to assess illness perceptions and beliefs about medicines of patients with acute coronary syndrome. Psychometric properties of these questionnaires should be tested in different patient populations.

ABSTRACT

AIMS AND OBJECTIVE: 1-Alkynes are the important precursors for the CuAAC click chemistry. The hybrid of 1,2,3-triazole ring to the chromene ring and sugar moiety could bring some remarkable biological properties. Propargyl derivatives are usually used in the click chemistry. This article reported the synthesis of 2-amino-4-aryl-7-propargyloxy-4-aryl-4H-chromene-3-carbonitriles using propargyl bromide as alkylation agent and the use of potassium carbonate and sodium hydride as bases in the conversion of 2-amino-4-aryl-7- hydroxy-4-aryl-4H-chromene-3-carbonitriles into corresponding propargyl ethers in Williamson's ether synthesis. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The use of CTAB for the synthesis of benzylidene malononitriles and anhydrous potassium carbonate as a catalyst in absolute ethanol in the synthesis of 2-amino-7-hydroxy-4H-chromene-3- carbonitriles is an efficient and simple synthetic method. Propargyl ether compounds of these 4H-chromene-3- carbonitriles were obtained from the alkylation reaction by propargyl bromide. Two procedures were applied: K2CO3 as a base in acetone solvent (Procedure A) and NaH as a base in DMF solvent (Procedure B). The single-crystal X-ray structure of propargyl ether 5e has been studied. RESULTS: The use of K2CO3 and NaH as bases in the Williamson's ether synthesis from 2-amino-7-hydroxy-4Hchromene- 3-carbonitriles showed that Procedure B was the better route and gave ethers in the higher yields. 2- Amino-4-aryl-7-propargyloxy-4-aryl-4H-chromene-3-carbonitriles were obtained from corresponding 7- hydroxy-4H-chromene-3-carbonitriles. Yields of ethers 5a-i were 70-89% and 80-96%, respectively depending on the used procedures. CONCLUSION: The described methods are simple, clean and environmentally friendly alternatives for the preparation of 2-amino-4-aryl-7-hydroxy-4H-chromene-3-carbonitriles. The conditions for the transformation of these compounds into propargyl ethers include dried DMF as a solvent, NaH as a base and reaction time of 2 h at the room temperature. A series of 2-amino-4-aryl-7-hydroxy-4-aryl-4H-chromene-3-carbonitriles were obtained based on investigated reaction condition.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: We aimed to determine the association between physician adherence to prescribing guideline-recommended medications during hospitalisation and 6-month major adverse outcomes of patients with acute coronary syndrome in Vietnam. DESIGN: Prospective cohort study. SETTING: The study was carried out in two public hospitals in Vietnam between January and October 2015. Patients were followed for 6 months after discharge. PARTICIPANTS: Patients who survived during hospitalisation with a discharge diagnosis of acute coronary syndrome and who were eligible for receiving at least one of the four guideline-recommended medications. EXPOSURES: Guideline adherence was defined as prescribing all guideline-recommended medications at both hospital admission and discharge for eligible patients. Medications were antiplatelet agents, beta-blockers, ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor blockers and statins. MAIN OUTCOME MEASURE: Six-month major adverse outcomes were defined as all-cause mortality or hospital readmission due to cardiovascular causes occurring during 6 months after discharge. Cox regression models were used to estimate the association between guideline adherence and 6-month major adverse outcomes. RESULTS: Overall, 512 patients were included. Of those, there were 242 patients (47.3%) in the guideline adherence group and 270 patients (52.3%) in the non-adherence group. The rate of 6-month major adverse outcomes was 30.5%. A 29% reduction in major adverse outcomes at 6 months after discharge was found for patients of the guideline adherence group compared with the non-adherence group (adjusted HR, 0.71; 95% CI, 0.51 to 0.98; p=0.039). Covariates significantly associated with the major adverse outcomes were percutaneous coronary intervention, prior heart failure and renal insufficiency. CONCLUSIONS: In-hospital guideline adherence was associated with a significant decrease in major adverse outcomes up to 6 months after discharge. It supports the need for improving adherence to guidelines in hospital practice in low-income and middle-income countries like Vietnam.

ABSTRACT

A rechargeable hybrid aqueous battery (ReHAB) containing NASICON-type M3V2(PO4)3 (M = Li, Na) as the cathodes and Zinc metal as the anode, working in Li2SO4-ZnSO4 aqueous electrolyte, has been studied. Both of Li3V2(PO4)3 and Na3V2(PO4)3 cathodes can be reversibly charge/discharge with the initial discharge capacity of 128 mAh g(-1) and 96 mAh g(-1) at 0.2C, respectively, with high up to 84% of capacity retention ratio after 200 cycles. The electrochemical assisted ex-XRD confirm that Li3V2(PO4)3 and Na3V2(PO4)3 are relative stable in aqueous electrolyte, and Na3V2(PO4)3 showed more complicated electrochemical mechanism due to the co-insertion of Li(+) and Na(+). The effect of pH of aqueous electrolyte and the dendrite of Zn on the cycling performance of as designed MVP/Zn ReHABs were investigated, and weak acidic aqueous electrolyte with pH around 4.0-4.5 was optimized. The float current test confirmed that the designed batteries are stable in aqueous electrolytes. The MVP//Zn ReHABs could be a potential candidate for future rechargeable aqueous battery due to their high safety, fast dynamic speed and adaptable electrochemical window. Moreover, this hybrid battery broadens the scope of battery material research from single-ion-involving to double-ions -involving rechargeable batteries.

ABSTRACT

Comparative trials of pirantel analogs--combatrin (Pfizer, Philippines) and embovin (Russia) were carried out in a hyperendemic focus of intestinal nematodoses in Vietnam. The drugs were prescribed in a single dose of 10 mg/kg. No significant differences in the efficacies of the drugs were revealed: combatrin and embovin efficacies in ascariasis were 94.3 and 98.0%, respectively (p > 0.05), in ankylostomiasis 76.3 and 58.3%, respectively (p > 0.05).

ABSTRACT

An intensive focus of intestinal nematodiases in a foothill province of Vietnam is described; the incidence of ascaridiasis there was found to be 81.8%, trichuriasis 78.1%, and ankylostomiasis 12.3%. Polyinvasions were detected in more than 80% of the examinees. Analysis of five schemes of medamin therapy, used in three provinces in 595 patients with ascaridiasis, 490 ones with trichuriasis, and 323 ones with ankylostomiasis has shown that the treatment efficacy was reducing with the invasion intensity augmentation. In ascariasis the 3- and 5-day therapeutic schemes were the most effective, their efficacies being 68.4 and 82.0%, respectively; in trichuriasis and ankylostomiasis a 3-day scheme was the best, its efficacies being 74.0 and 71.9%, respectively. Retrograde ascarid migration occurred in 1.2% of 595 ascaridiasis patients after medamin therapy.
