ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND: We report 10 cases of active endobronchial tuberculosis in female patients. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Diagnosis of endobronchial tuberculosis was established by demonstrating the presence of Koch bacilli in the bronchial washings or at pathology examination of a bronchial mucosa biopsy. Follow-up was available for 5 of the 10 cases. RESULTS: These women were aged 19 to 756 years. Clinical signs included persistent cough (n=10), wheezing (n=10), dyspnea (n=5), dysphonia (n=4) and fever (n=8). Chest x-ray was normal in 4 cases but showed condensation in 4 others with infiltration of the superior lobe in 2 cases. Bronchoscopy findings were characteristic with a thick layer of white caseum on the mucosa. Koch bacilli were found in all bronchial wash specimens. Pathology examination confirmed the diagnosis of tuberculosis in 5 of the 10 cases.

Fetus in fetu is a rare condition in which a fetiform calcified mass often is present in the abdomen of its host, a newborn or an infant. We report on a case of a 19-month-old girl whose plain abdominal radiograph, ultrasonography, and computed tomography scan revealed a mass in which the contents favor a fetus in fetu rather than a teratoma. The noncalcified vertebral column invisible on the radiographs was identified by the pathologist; therefore, the nonvisualization of the vertebral axis on radiography or on computed tomography scan does not exclude the diagnosis of fetus in fetu.

We report on a 7 year-old-girl with mandibulo-acral dysplasia. When she was 3 years of age it mimicked scleroderma because of skin atrophy and later on a Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome (HGP). Acro-mandibular dysplasia was diagnosed because of facial hypoplasia and mandibular hypoplasia. The bilateral proximal mid-humeral notch seen in this case is unusual.

We report a new case of tracheo-bronchial tuberculosis. Diagnosis was suggested on CT examination first and then confirmed by endoscopy and bacteriological examinations. We discuss the possible mechanisms of stenosis. We present the radiological features of tracheo-bronchial tuberculosis, mainly helical CT features and we discuss and illustrate differential diagnosis. We emphasize the role of 3 D and multiplanar reconstructed CT images that may help visualizing the stenosis at different levels, its craniocaudal extent as well as the boundaries between the stenosis and surrounding tissues. Moreover helical CT appears superior to bronchofibroscopy in diagnosing peribronchial infiltration.

We report the case of a 22-year-old woman with a large, bilateral lymphangiomatous cyst originating from the adrenal glands. Since she was having persistent pain and the diagnosis was uncertain, we did surgery.

We describe the case of an adolescent girl who had an isolated cranial sternal cleft without any associated abnormalities; the cleft had been well tolerated since her birth. A review of the literature shows that such cases are uncommon. In such cases, surgery is only for cosmetic reasons.

Hutchinson-Gilford progeria syndrome is a rare syndrome of premature aging with multiple skeletal abnormalities. We report one case. The literature is reviewed. Characteristics of 30 patients with radiological records are presented. Pronounced acro-osteolysis, osteolysis of the clavicle are the main features. Modern imaging is useful to diagnose the complications.

Endobronchial lipoma is an uncommon benign tumor. It is composed of fat tissue and is visible on CT scanner. We report an unusual case of a patient who developed two endobronchial lipomas. The first lipoma was removed 10 years earlier. We emphasize the contribution of computed tomography in the diagnosis of endobronchial lipoma. Cases of multiple lipomas are very scarce in the literature.
