ABSTRACT

Dilatation of distal urethral stenoses is one of the relatively frequent minor operations in child urology. The authors present a group of 830 female patients age 2-16 years treated by dilatation of the urethra in 1988-1994. According to the predominating finding they divide the cases into three groups--vesicoureteral reflux (VUR), infection of the urinary pathways (IUP), enuresis--and in these they evaluate the effectiveness of the operation, which was greatest in the group of patients with IUP (37%). Finally they discuss both possibilities of treatment of stenoses--dilatation and urethrotomy.

ABSTRACT

The authors present the evaluation of some most often methods of treatment of trochanteric fractures of femur. They analyze the group of 235 patients in the years 1987 - 1991 treated for fractures by the McLaughlin technique and by Ender nailing. The first method was performed on 121 people and the technique of Ender nailing on 97 people. The results and complications of these methods of osteosynthesis are presented in the paper. The experiences of the authors confirm the advantage of Ender nailing in treating fractures of the oldest injured patients. The Ender nailing method of osteosynthesis is the more advantageous, because the operation takes less time and is easier for patients. After Ender nailing, the possibility of functional rehabilitation and walking on crutches is greater. McLaughlin osteosynthesis of these fractures proved the more advantageous in younger injured patients.

ABSTRACT

In the presented retrospective study the authors evaluate the effect of dilatation of the urethra in the treatment of relapsing infections of the urinary pathways in girls. In 1982-1987 at the Clinic of Paediatric Surgery in Brno 387 girls with infections of the urinary pathways were examined, in 112 stenosis of the distal urethra was found, in 24 moreover vesicoureteral reflux and 40 suffered from enuresis. After dilatation of the urethra, the technique of which is described in detail the urinary findings were normal in 83% of the girls and in more than half significant or complete regression of the vesicoureteral reflux was noted, in more than two thirds enuresis was eliminated. The authors therefore recommend the method and also calibration of the urethra during examination of the patients.
