ABSTRACT

AIM: To investigate the efficacy of optimal pulse technology(OPT)in the treatment of demodex blepharitis and its influence on ocular surface function.METHODS: A retrospective study was conducted from February 2018 to October 2020. A total of 127 patients(254 eyes)with demodex blepharitis were assigned to the observation group and the control group according to the treatment method. The control group(63 patients, 126 eyes)were given conventional hot compress, eye cleansing and drug therapy. On this basis, the observation group(64 patients, 128 eyes)was treated with OPT. Both groups were given 6wk of continuous treatment. Demodex count, Marx's line scores, meibum character scores, ocular surface disease index(OSDI)scores, non-invasive tear break-up time(NIBUT), non-invasive tear meniscus height(NITMH)and lipid layer thickness(LLT)were compared between the two groups, and safety was evaluated.RESULTS: After 6wk of treatment, demodex count, Marx's line scores, meibum character scores and OSDI scores of the two groups decreased. NIBUT, NITMH and LLT increased. Meanwhile, demodex count, Marx's line scores, meibum character scores and OSDI scores of the observation group were significantly lower than those in the control group. NIBUT, NITMH and LLT were longer/larger than those in the control group(P<0.001). No obvious abnormality of intraocular pressure or conjunctival/corneal injury was observed in either group.CONCLUSION:OPT is effective and safe in the treatment of demodex blepharitis.

ABSTRACT

In order to study the correlation between the traits of Andrographis paniculata. The main agronomic traits and the content of four kinds of diterpene lactons were measured by the seedlings and the unmutagenized seeds carried by the spacecraft, and multiple comparisons, correlations and principal component analysis were carried out. The results showed that the agronomic traits of A. paniculata have different degrees of difference after being carried by space. The contents of diterpene lactones were quite different. The variation coefficients of deoxyandrographolide content, fresh weight, leaf dry weight, dehydrated andrographolide content, dry weight, neoandrographolide content and andrographolide content were all over 35%. There was a significant correlation between multiple traits, and the leaf weight ratio was significantly positively correlated with the number of primary tillers, leaf dry weight and dry weight, and was significantly negatively correlated with the content of deoxyandrographolide. Andrographolide content was a significantly negatively correlated with the number of leaves and the number of primary tillers, and positively correlated with the other three lactones. Five principal components were extracted from principal component analysis, and the cumulative contribution rate was 83. 127%,which were yield factor, plant type factor, leaf type factor, component factor and seed weight factor. Among the traits affecting the quality of A. paniculata, the yield factor for reliability of the selection of A. paniculata is higher than other factors. There are abundant variations among the traits of A. paniculata, carried in space which increase the genetic diversity. The principal component analysis method can be used to select the principal component factors according to the breeding requirements, which provides a theoretical basis for the breeding of high-yield and high-quality A. paniculata and the high-yield and stable cultivation of A. paniculata.

ABSTRACT

Immunogenic antigen (spinosin-BSA) and coating antigen (spinosin-OVA) of spinosin were synthesized by sodium periodate oxidation method. UV scanning analysis method showed that these two spinosins were successfully conjugated with carrier protein and the coupling ratio was 17 and 13.7, respectively. Meanwhile, when immunized by spinosin-BSA,the mice can produce anti-spinosin antibodies with the high titer (1:32 000),specificity (IC₅₀ 211.6 μg·L⁻¹) and low cross-reaction rate measured by ELISA tests. The artificial antigen of spinosin was successfully synthesized, which can be applied for preparation of monoclonal antibodies and establishment of appropriate immune method.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>BACKGROUND</b>The 9-hole peg test (9-HPT) and 10-meter walk test (10-MWT) are commonly used to test finger motor function and walking ability. The aim of this present study was to investigate the efficacy of these tests for evaluating functional loss in Chinese Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) disease.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Thirty-four Chinese CMT patients (CMT group) from August 2015 to December 2016 were evaluated with 9-HPT, 10-MWT, CMT disease examination score, overall neuropathy limitation scale (ONLS), functional disability score, and Berg Balance Scale (BBS). Thirty-five age- and gender-matched healthy controls (control group) were also included in the study. Student's nonpaired or paired t-test were performed to compare data between two independent or related groups, respectively. The Pearson test was used to examine the correlations between recorded parameters.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The mean 9-HPT completion time in the dominant hand of CMT patients was significantly slower than that in the healthy controls (29.60 ± 11.89 s vs. 19.58 ± 3.45 s; t = -4.728, P < 0.001). Women with CMT completed the 9-HPT significantly faster than men with CMT (dominant hand: 24.74 ± 7.93 s vs. 33.01 ± 13.14 s, t = 2.097, P = 0.044). The gait speed of the average self-selected velocity and the average fast-velocity assessed using 10-MWT for CMT patients were significantly slower than those in the control group (1.03 ± 0.18 m/s vs. 1.44 ± 0.17 m/s, t = 9.333, P < 0.001; 1.31 ± 0.30 m/s vs. 1.91 ± 0.25 m/s, t = 8.853, P < 0.001, respectively). There was no difference in gait speed between men and women. Both 9-HPT and 10-MWT were significantly correlated with the ONLS, functional disability score, and BBS (P < 0.05 for all).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>The 9-HPT and 10-MWT might be useful for functional assessment in Chinese patients with CMT.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To analyze the outcomes of the surgery repair for total anomalous pulmonary venous connection(TAPVC),and to investigate the risk factors which influence the mortality of the operation. Methods Comparative analysis was performed in the children with TAPVC who were treated operatively from Sep.2001 to Sep.2011 in the Third Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University,Henan Diagnosis & Treatment Center of Congenital Heart Disease. The children included 37 male and 20 female, aged from 15 days to 6.5 years[(4.27 ± 8.63) months],with body weight 4.0-21.0 (6.33 ± 2.70) kg,and the clinical records in hospital including echocardiogram operation records were collected. The clinical data including the age on operation, body weight, diagnosis, anatomic type of TAPVC,the emergency event before operation, cardiopulmonary bypass time, aortic crossclamping time, were analyzed by chisquared test and Logistic multivariable regression analysis. The risk factors influencing the early mortality of TAPVC were analyzed. Results Fifty-seven children underwent the operation, and 7 (12.2%)cases died during the operation. The univariate analysis on outcomes indicated that the risk factors influencing the mortality of the operation included body weight(P =0.035),anatomic type of TAPVC (P =0.037),the emergency event before operation (P =0.021),and aortic crossclamping time(P =0.046).The Logistic multivariable regression analysis indicated that the emergency events before operation was the independent risk factor for the mortality of TAPVC(P =0.003).Conclusion TAPVC children with preoperative emergency events have higher postoperative mortality.
