ABSTRACT

A new sensitive method for detection of cumulative radon radiation based on the lead was established. PS2.M which stabilized by K+with hemin as a co-factor exhibits superior peroxidase-like activity, and can effectively catalyze the H2O2-mediated oxidation of TMB. In the presence of Pb2+, K+-stabilized PS2.M DNAzymes are induced to undergo a conformational change, because Pb2+has a higher efficiency with regard to stabilizing G-quadruplexes than K+, accompanied by a decrease of catalytic activity and a sharp decrease of readout signal. In the work, a novel"turn-off"model of colorimetry-Pb2+biosensor based on superior peroxidase-like activity of G-quadruplex for Pb2+analysis was developed. The fading degree of reaction system (△A value) was linearly related to Pb2+concentration in the range of 5. 0×10-9-1. 8× 10-7mol/L. The linear regression equation was △A=0.36+0.13C (10-8mol/L), with R=0.9987. The detection limits of lead and radon were 3.76 nmol/L(S/N=3) and 1.96×103Bq·h/m3(S/N=3), respectively. The method exhibited good selectivity, high sensitivity and convenient operation, and could avoid the radioactive hazard in determination of the radon in environment.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVETo assess therapeutic effect of combined treatment of Chinese medicine and western medicine on optic atrophy complicated by cerebral palsy.

METHODSOne hundred and seventeen cases were divided into an observation group (n = 79) and a control group (n = 38). The control group were treated with routine western medicine treatment including neurotrophic drugs and high pressure oxygen, etc. and the observation group with acupuncture at Ganshu (BL 18), Pishu (BL 20), Chengqi (ST 1), etc. and injection of 0.2-0.3 mL Compound Danshen Injectio into Qiuhou (EX-HN 7), on the basis of the same treatment of western medicine as that in the control group. Fundus examination and the tracing body angle detection were conducted before and after treatment and the therapeutic effects were assessed in the two groups.

RESULTSThe total effective rate was 91.1% in the observation group and 60.5% in the control group with a significant difference between the two groups (P < 0.001); after treatment the angle of tracing body significantly increased in the two groups (P < 0.01) with the observation group better than the control group (P < 0.01).

CONCLUSIONThe combined treatment of Chinese medicine and western medicine is an effective therapy for optic atrophy complicated by cerebral palsy.

ABSTRACT

To screen differentially expressed genes involved in osteogenic differentiation of human bone marrow stromal cells (BMSCs) at defined stages, subtractive cDNA library was established by means of suppression subtractive hybridization. The BMSCs cultured for 12 and 21 d were used as driver and tester, respectively. A subtract library was successfully constructed and five positive clones were selected from the library. Sequencing analysis and homology comparison showed that the five clones differentially expressed in BMSCs cultured for 21 d were at least 90% homologous with the known genes in human GenBank. It was interestingly found that the osteogenic BMSCs cultured for 21 d differentially expressed decorin and Bax inhibitor 1. RT-PCR was performed to confirm the differentially expressed genes. The results showed that the expression of Bax inhibitor 1 was significantly higher in the cells of 21-day than that of 12-day, while the expression of decorin was only detected in the cells of 21-day.
