ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the relationships of quality of life ( QOL ) and functional status in patients with malignant bone tumors after operation. Methods European organization for research and treatment of cancer quality of life questionnaire C30 (EORTC-QLQ-C30), social support revalued scale (SSRS) and Karnofsky performance scale (KPS) were used to investigate the levels of QOL, social support and functional status. The correlations between them were explored. Results The overall score by QOL was (58.33 ± 18.94). The score by KPS was positively related to somatic function, role function, social function, and general health status (P<0.01), but negatively related to tiredness, pains, insomnia and financial burden (P<0.01). Conclusions The QOL in patients with malignant bone tumors after operation is at a lower level and the function is at a medium level. Nurses should assess the function and make out interventional measures for them so as to improve their QOL.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the effect of continuity of health education model for patients undergoing bone cancer during the first chemotherapy. Methods This model was designed based on KAP(Knowledge,Attitude or Belief,Practice) theory, literature review and questionnaire and performed in 103 bone cancer patients during the first chemotherapy. Results All the patients were assessed, with the founding that the pass rate of knowledge test, treatment compliance and degree of satisfaction were increased significantly(all P<0.05).Conclusions The health education model could help patients learn knowledge about bone cancer, build health behavior and deal with complications.Additionally,it improves the pass rate of knowledge test, satisfaction, and compliance.

ABSTRACT

Objective To explore the role of problem-based learning(PBL) nursing ward round on critical thinking capacity of nurses from surgical departments. Methods All nurses from surgical depart-ments were randomly divided into the experimental group(86 nurses) and the control group(85 nurses) by drawing lots. Objects from the experimental group received PBL nursing ward round training twice a week for 8 months, while those from the control group used the traditional nursing ward round training. The influ-ence of the different teaching methods on the critical thinking capacity of the nurses was assessed before and after the training, using critical thinking disposition inventory-Chinese version (CTDI-CV). Results Total critical thinking capacity was improved significantly in the experimental group after the training. All sorts of critical thinking characteristics were strengthened in different degree. Conclusions PBL nursing ward round training can effectively facilitate the critical thinking capacity of surgical nurses.

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the clinical effect and nursing methods of bilevel positive air-way pressure(BiPAP)ventilation in patients with neurogenic pulmonary edema(NPE).Methods Totally 11 NPE patients from January 2004 to December 2007 were enrolled.Ventilation support adopted specific invasive BiPAP mode of Puritan-Bennett840.Aiway pressure release ventilation(APRV)tactics was ap- plied in this mode. The blood oxygen saturation rote(SpO2),acidity-alkalinity(pH),arterial oxygen pres-sure(PaO2),arterial carbon dioxide pressure(PaCO2)were analyzed and compared between synchronized intemittent mandatory ventilation(SIMV)mede2 h and 24 h after BiPAP ventilation. Results Among, arterial blood gas analysis of 11 patients,SpO2 and PaO2 were obviously ameliorated after BiPAP ventilation compared with SIMV ventilation. No side-effect occurred. Conclusions The application of invasive Bi- PAP ventilation support in NPE patients proved to be a fast and effective method.
