ABSTRACT

Objective:To study the clinical characteristics and imaging features of neonatal ovarian cysts and to analyze treatment and prognosis of ovarian torsion. Methods:From January 2011 to December 2021,neonates with ovarian cysts admitted to the department of neonatology and pediatric surgery of our hospital were retrospectively studied. They were assigned into ovarian torsion group and non-torsion group. Their clinical manifestations, imaging features, pathological results, treatment and prognosis were reviewed and compared. Results:A total of 44 neonates with ovarian cysts were included, all without specific clinical manifestations. 10 neonates were treated with conservative therapy and 34 received surgery. Ovarian torsion were confirmed during surgery in 23 patients. All 34 patients received abdominal ultrasound preoperatively and 31 (91.2%, 31/34) were diagnosed with ovarian cysts. The accuracy rates of ultrasound for cyst location and ovarian torsion were 85.3% (29/34) and 82.6% (19/23),respectively. 30 patients received abdominal CT scan and 23 (76.7%, 23/30) were diagnosed with ovarian cysts. The accuracy rates of CT scan for cyst location and ovarian torsion were 53.3% (16/30) and 47.8% (11/23), respectively. Among the 34 patients treated with surgery, ovarian cyst dissection was performed in 11 patients and cyst resection in 23 patients with torsion necrosis. 24 patients had simple cysts including 15 torsion necrosis (62.5%, 15/24) and 10 had complicated cysts including 8 torsion necrosis(80.0%, 8/10). The average diameter of ovarian cysts was significantly larger in the torsion group [(8.4±1.6) cm] than the non-torsion group [(4.7±1.2) cm] ( P<0.05). Conclusions:Neonatal ovarian cysts are mostly unilateral without specific clinical manifestations. Large, bilateral and complex cysts are prone to torsion necrosis. Abdomen ultrasound has advantages than CT scan for the localization of the ovarian cyst and diagnosis of ovarian torsion. Surgical treatment is necessary after diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

The coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 has mutated quickly and caused significant global damage. This study characterizes two mRNA vaccines ZSVG-02 (Delta) and ZSVG-02-O (Omicron BA.1), and associating heterologous prime-boost strategy following the prime of a most widely administrated inactivated whole-virus vaccine (BBIBP-CorV). The ZSVG-02-O induces neutralizing antibodies that effectively cross-react with Omicron subvariants following an order of BA.1>BA.2>BA.4/5. In naive animals, ZSVG-02 or ZSVG-02-O induce humoral responses skewed to the vaccines targeting strains, but cellular immune responses cross-react to all variants of concern (VOCs) tested. Following heterologous prime-boost regimes, animals present comparable neutralizing antibody levels and superior protection across all VOCs. Single-boost only generated ancestral and omicron dual-responsive antibodies, probably by "recall" and "reshape" the prime immunity. New Omicron-specific antibody populations, however, appeared only following the second boost with ZSVG-02-O. Overall, our results support a heterologous boost with ZSVG-02-O, providing the best protection against current VOCs in inactivated virus vaccine- primed populations.

ABSTRACT

Leukemoid reaction complicated by thrombocytopenia is rare, usually seen in patients with malignant conditions, and is often associated with poor prognosis. Here, the case of a 28-year-old healthy female without exceptional past medical history, who suffered from severe vaginal infection, is reported. Although symptoms improved, the white blood cell (WBC) count continued to increase up to 78 460 cells/µl, however, the patient continued to improve and the outcome was good. The case revealed that an increasing WBC count may not change in synchrony with clinical symptoms. When faced with this scenario, procalcitonin measurements may play an important role in differentiating diagnosis and guiding treatment.

ABSTRACT

Objective To understand the frequency distribution of CYP2C9 and VKORC1 gene single nucleotide polymor-phisms in Yunnan Han population. Methods CYP2C9(430C> T,1075A>C and 1080C> G)locus and VKORC1(-1639G> A and 1173C> T)locus gene polymorphisms in 202 samples were detected by adopting electrochemical gene sensor method, and the allele frequencies and genotype frequencies were performed the statistics and the gene polymorphism in relevant populations was an-alyzed.Results Among 202 samples,202 cases(100.0%)were genotype C/C at CYP2C9 * 2 locus,C allele frequency was 100.0%;185 cases(91.6%)were genotype A/A at CYP2C9*3 locus,15 cases(7.4%)were A/C genotype,2 cases(1.0%)were C/C genotype,A allele frequency was 95.3%,C allele frequency was 4.7%;CYP2C9*5 locus genotype C/C was in 202 cases (100.0%),C allele frequency was 100%;VKORC1 -1639G > A locus genotype A/A was in 145 cases(71.8%),57 cases (28.2%)were G/A genotype,A allele frequency was 85.9%,G was 14.1%;1173C> T locus genotype T/T was in 145 cases (71.8%),C/T gene type in 57 cases(28.2%),T allele frequency was 85.9%,and C was 14.1%.Conclusion The distribution of CYP2C9 gene in Yunnan Han population is similar to that in other regions of our country. The VKORC1 gene is different from the foreign population,Chinese Han nationality and partial minority nationalities.
