ABSTRACT

Objectives: Over the years, it has been found that colchicine offers substantial benefits in secondary prevention in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). We studied the effects of colchicine timing because there are no guidelines about when to provide it during the perioperative period for patients with CAD. Methods: Up to January 1, 2023, seven electronic literature databases were screened (including three English databases and four Chinese databases). Randomized controlled trials included only treatment with colchicine in the perioperative period of CAD. The Cochrane Evaluation Tool was used to judge the risk of bias in research. Statistical analysis was performed by Stata 16.0 software. Results: We evaluated twelve studies that found colchicine to be effective in decreasing the occurrence of major adverse cardiac events (MACEs) (p < 0.00001), but it also raised the rate of adverse events (p = 0.001). Subgroup analysis showed the same benefit in lowering the incidence of MACE with continuous administration of a total daily dose of 0.5 mg postoperatively while minimizing drug-related side effects in the patients (p = 0.03). When it comes to preventing surgical stroke occurrences, postoperative administration is more effective (p = 0.006). While the effect of simultaneous preoperative and postoperative administration was marginally greater than other periods in reducing postoperative hs-CRP levels (p = 0.02). Conclusion: Colchicine, a traditional anti-inflammatory drug, also reduces the risk of MACE by reducing inflammation after PCI. Administration at different periods had no significant effect on decreasing the occurrence of MACE, but when administered postoperatively, we advise continuous administration with a total daily dose of 0.5 mg to obtain the same benefit while minimizing the drug's side effects. Postoperative administration is the better measure to prevent postoperative stroke events. Due to the effective anti-inflammatory effect of colchicine, we recommend its use as early as possible in the perioperative period and its continued use at low doses in the postoperative period. ABSTRACT

Art therapy, as a non-pharmacological medical complementary and alternative therapy, has been used as one of medical interventions with good clinical effects on mental disorders. However, systematically reviewed in detail in clinical situations is lacking. Here, we searched on PubMed for art therapy in an attempt to explore its theoretical basis, clinical applications, and future perspectives to summary its global pictures. Since drawings and paintings have been historically recognized as a useful part of therapeutic processes in art therapy, we focused on studies of art therapy which mainly includes painting and drawing as media. As a result, a total of 413 literature were identified. After carefully reading full articles, we found that art therapy has been gradually and successfully used for patients with mental disorders with positive outcomes, mainly reducing suffering from mental symptoms. These disorders mainly include depression disorders and anxiety, cognitive impairment and dementias, Alzheimer's disease, schizophrenia, and autism. These findings suggest that art therapy can not only be served as an useful therapeutic method to assist patients to open up and share their feelings, views, and experiences, but also as an auxiliary treatment for diagnosing diseases to help medical specialists obtain complementary information different from conventional tests. We humbly believe that art therapy has great potential in clinical applications on mental disorders to be further explored.

ABSTRACT

Our primary health care institution began to implement national essential medicine system in 2009. In past fi ve years, the goal of national essential medicine system has been initially achieved. For examples, medicine price is steadily reducing, the quality of medical services is improving and residents' satisfaction is substantial increasing every year. However, at the same time, we also found some urgent problems needed to be solved. For examples, the range of national essential medicine is limited, which is difficult to guarantee the quality of essential medication. In addition, how to compensate the primary health care institution is still a question.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effect of nutrition and food safety education among middle school students in a poverty-stricken county in west China, and to explore the better education model for further education. METHODS: Students of grade 7 to 9 were selected from 4 middle schools in the country through multi-stage cluster sampling for the questionnaire, and the schools were assigned into an intervention group or a control group. After students in the intervention schools completed one year nutrition and food safety education with the textbooks, students were chosen from the same 4 schools to finish the same questionnaire again. RESULTS: A total of 410 students from grade 7 to 9 were selected at the baseline study, and 474 students in the final study. The essential characteristics of the 2 groups were not statistically significant (P>0.05). In the baseline investigation, the differences in the scores on nutrition and food safety knowledge, attitude and practice between the 2 groups were not significant (P>0.05). In the final study, the scores on the knowledge, attitude of nutrition knowledge learning, and dietary habits among students in the intervention group were significantly higher than those in the control group (P<0.05). School-students mixed model demonstrated that the intervention was protective factor on scores of knowledge, in particular with nutrition related diseases and reasonable diet (P<0.05). But the intervention didn't affect the scores on attitude in both ways (P>0.05). CONCLUSION: Nutrition and food safety education can improve the nutrition and food safety knowledge effectively. The curriculum should be further standardized and different emphases should be set up to different grades to cultivate healthy diet behaviors.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition and food safety educational programs on primary students from grade 4 to 6 in impoverished areas of Western China, under a school-based cluster-randomized trial. METHODS: Twelve primary schools were selected from 2 impoverished counties in West China and assigned to intervention or control groups, randomly, with 6 schools in each group. Self-rating knowledge, attitude and practice questionnaires were used at both baseline and final stages. Textbooks and supportive materials were designed according to the characteristics of baseline data. All students in the intervention group were treated with targeted nutrition and food safety lectures of 0.5 hour per week for 2 semesters. Generalized linear mixed effects model was applied to fit the random effects on individual and clusters as well as to fit the fixed effect of the programs. RESULTS: Three hundred seventy-eight students from grade 4 to 6 were randomly selected at the baseline study and the differences of scores on knowledge, attitude and practice between the 2 groups were statistically insignificant (P > 0.05). No cluster was lost during the trial. In the final investigation, 478 students were randomly selected at the individual level. Scores on knowledge, attitude and practice among students in the intervention group were significantly higher, when comparing to the control group (P < 0.01). At the cluster level, more schools in the intervention group showed significant changes on knowledge and practice, yet the change in attitude was less obvious. Data from the mixed-effects model demonstrated that the program served as an influential factor on scores related to knowledge after the intervention(P = 0.015)but did not affect the scores on related attitude or practice (P > 0.05). CONCLUSION: Lectures seemed to have improved the cognition of nutrition and food safety among primary students from grade 4 to 6. However, long-term observation and larger sample size were needed to evaluate the changes on attitude and practice among the students.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the rationality and validity of weighted TOPSIS method and weighted RSR method to evaluate drug supervision and supply networks construction in rural areas of Hunan . METHODS: Data of drug network construction in rural Hunan in 2010 were used to establish a comprehensive evaluation model, and weighted TOPSIS and RSR method were applied to this model and the results of which were compared to that of synthetical scored method to examine the validity. RESULTS: A comprehensive evaluation model was established, comprising of 3 primary indices, 8 secondary indices and 56 tertiary ones. The result of weighted RSR method was highly correlated to that of synthetical scored method, yet the result of TOPSIS was less correlated to the formers. All correlations were significant (P<0.01). CONCLUSION: Both weighted RSR and TOPSIS are not perfect methods, but the application of the methods in drug network evaluation is scientific and effective.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To study the relevant information on the label of health food in Changsha, and provide scientific evidence for health food hygienic supervision. METHODS: Investigation was conducted in department stores, supermarkets, pharmacies, and wholesale markets in the 5 districts in Changsha with multistage stratified sampling method. Self designed basic information of health food questionnaire was used to investigate the quality of labels the health food products. RESULTS: Among the 408 random samples, the unidentified rates of label items were ranked in descending order: functional components (49.8%), unsuited community (27.9%), manufacturing date (23.0%), approval number and others (9.6%). The qualified rates of labels were different in different management types (χ(2)=59.793, P<0.05): the highest rate was in supermarkets (71.15%), followed by pharmacies (70.07%), shopping malls (57.47%), and wholesale markets (26.23%). CONCLUSION: The supervision of label identities of health food should be strengthened, especially for the health food in the wholesale markets.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To establish a scientific foundation for cosmetic supervision and administration based on the analysis of the sanitary quality of cosmetics in Hunan Province during 2010. METHODS: According to Cosmetic Sanitary Standards (set by the Ministry of Health, People's Republic of China), 150 random samples of cosmetics in Hunan were assayed both for microbial items (including total plate count, fungus and yeast, fecal coliform, staphylococcus aureus, pseudomonas aeruginosa) and chemical items (including 17 kinds of prohibited substances and 14 kinds of restricted substances). RESULTS: The total rate of cosmetics failing to meet the standards was 22.0% of the 150 samples; specific rates for failing perfumes, skin care products (eye cream) and deodorant products were, relatively, 70.6%, 60.00%, and 44.4%. Four kinds of prohibited substances, including diethyl phthalate, acrylamide, asbestos and neodymium, as well as 2 kinds of restricted substances, including triclosan and formaldehyde, were found to exceed standards. None of microbial items exceeded standard levels. CONCLUSION: The sanitary quality control of cosmetics is lax. Administrative departments should not only reinforce their post-production supervision with respect to cosmetics, but also consolidate their control over the process of cosmetic production in order to solve the problem of toxic residues or illegal and intentional adulterations.

ABSTRACT

Prohibited substances in cosmetics refer to substances which must not be among the raw material ingredients of cosmetic products. These substances are absorbed mostly through skin, as well as via lung and gastrointestinal tract. Polyacrylamide is ubiquitously used in industry and its decomposition residue acrylamide (ACR) easily finds its way into cosmetic products. ACR can either be oxidized to epoxide glycidamide or conjugated with glutathione, hemoglobin or DNA; ultimately it is excreted in urine. ACR causes neurotoxicity, reproductive toxicity and tumors in rodents. Occupational exposure to ACR causes neurotoxicity in humans; however, epidemiological evidence have not unambiguously answered the question of whether ACR exposure can increase cancer risk for humans.
