ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the prevalence and influencing factors of stress urinary incontinence (SUI) within 6-8 weeks postpartum in Jiangsu Province. MATERIAL AND METHODS: We designed a multi-center cross-sectional study involving seven hospitals in Jiangsu province, and enrolled women who underwent postpartum examination at 6-8 weeks in these hospitals between July 2019 and June 2021. According to the presence or absence of SUI, the enrolled patients were divided into two groups: the SUI group and the non-SUI group, respectively. We assessed the general health status, noted the details of delivery, and checked the pelvic floor electromyographic parameters of the postpartum women in both groups. RESULTS: Among 6,302 cases of postpartum women in Jiangsu province, there were 1,579 cases of SUI, with a prevalence of 25.06%. The prevalence of SUI increased significantly with age, BMI, increasing parity, coexisting constipation, organ prolapse, and diastasis recti abdominis. Compared to the non-SUI group, the SUI group had a lower mean value of the pre-baseline rest phase, shorter rise and fall times of fast muscle contractions, and a lower mean value of the endurance contraction phase. Multiple regression analysis revealed associations with weight (especially overweight and obesity), coexisting organ prolapse, constipation, parity, gestational week of delivery, mode of delivery, and mean value of endurance contraction phase. CONCLUSIONS: The prevalence of postpartum stress urinary incontinence in Jiangsu Province was 25.06%, and was linked to being overweight, parity > 2, coexisting organ prolapse, constipation, and a decrease in the mean value of the endurance contraction phase of the electromyograph. In this report, we offer a theoretical basis for the effective prevention of postpartum SUI clinically.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Septic pelvic thrombophlebitis (SPT) is a well-recognized but rare puerperal complication that has two types: ovarian vein thrombophlebitis (OVT) and deep septic pelvic thrombophlebitis (DSPT). The present case report describes the clinical and imaging findings of a female patient diagnosed with right ovarian vein infectious thrombophlebitis after caesarean section (C-section). CASE PRESENTATION: A 35-year-old G3P2 female who presented with a foetal vein Galen malformation at 41 weeks of gestation underwent C-section. The patient had high fever after C-section, and anti-inflammatory treatment was not effective within 1 week. An abdominal wall incision haematoma was found, and a second surgery for the removal of the abdominal wall haematoma was performed. The patient was ultimately diagnosed with abdominal incision haematoma and right ovarian vein infectious thrombophlebitis after C-section. We used imipenem and tigecycline to strengthen the anti-inflammatory effects, simultaneously administrating low-molecular-weight heparin and warfarin as anticoagulant therapy. On the 30th day after C-section, the right ovarian vein thrombus disappeared. CONCLUSION: This case illustrates the need to consider the potential relationship between abdominal incision haematoma and ovarian vein thrombophlebitis. Despite advances in the management of venous thromboembolism globally, more data on epidemiology in terms of first incidence, prevalence, recurrence and risk factors, management of bleeding complications, and increased awareness in Asian populations are necessary.

ABSTRACT

Quantitative protein bioanalysis in complex biological fluids presents considerable challenges in biological studies and medical diagnosis. The major obstacles are the background signals from the biological fluids and sensors themselves. Because the europium ion (Eu (III)) has the much longer fluorescence lifetime (1 ms) than that of the background (5 ns), time-resolved method can be widely used to eliminate the biological background. So, we report here an aptamer-based sensor (aptasensor) for time-resolved fluorescence assay of adenosine deaminase (ADA). This aptasensor employs two oligonucleotides labeled with DIG and biotin, respectively. The DNA1 (an oligonucleotide modified with biotin) is immobilized at a streptavidin-modified plate surface via the biotin-avidin bridge, and the DIG which is modified on the DNA2 serves as an affinity tag for the Eu(3+) labeled anti-DIG (Eu-anti-DIG) binding. If the adenosine is binding with DNA1, it will make the DNA1 in the closed state with a close-packed tight structure, which forbids the DNA2 approaching. And if the ADA is added into the mixture, the DNA1 unbends, because of the adenosine is transformed to inosine catalyzed by the ADA. Then DNA2 could hybridize with DNA1. Accordingly, the DIG finds Eu-anti-DIG and the Eu-anti-DIG will give a remarkable fluorescent signal. The detection limit of the aptasensor can be lowered to 2 UL(-1), which can meet the clinical requirement of ADA cutoff value (4 UL(-1)). Moreover, we were able to detect ADA in human serum quantitatively. Combined with time-resolved based measurements and aptasensor, this strategy holds great potential in protein analysis.

ABSTRACT

Lhx8, also named L3, is a recently identified member of the LIM homeobox gene family. Previously, we found acetylcholinesterase (AChE)-positive cells in fimbria-fornix (FF) transected rat hippocampal subgranular zone (SGZ). In the present study, we detected choline acetyltransferase (ChAT)-positive cholinergic cells in hippocampal SGZ after FF transaction, and these ChAT-positive cells were double labeled by Lhx8. Then we overexpressed Lhx8 during neural differentiation of hippocampal neural stem/progenitor cells on adherent conditions using lentivirus Lenti6.3-Lhx8. The result indicated that overexpression of Lhx8 did not affect the proportion of MAP2-positive neurons, but increased the proportion of ChAT-positive cells in vitro. These results suggested that FF-transected hippocampal niche promoted the ChAT/Lhx8-positive cholinergic neurons generation in rodent hippocampus, and Lhx8 was not associated with the MAP2-positive neurons differentiation on adherent conditions, but played a role in the specification of cholinergic neurons derived from hippocampal neural stem/progenitor cells in vitro.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To observe the effect of Cuichan Zhunsheng Decoction (CZD) on the cervical ripening factors in late pregnancy. METHODS: Ninety women with full-term pregnant ready for labor inducing were equally assigned to 3 groups. The treated group was orally treated with CZD, the control group was with pitocin by adding 1 U into 500 mL of 5% glucose for intravenous dripping in 6 h, and the placebo group was orally treated with simulator of CZD as placebo, with the medication lasted for 3 days. Changes of cervical length and width, and neck tube diameter were measured by vaginal B-ultrasonography to estimate the degree of cervical maturation referring to the clinical Bishop scale; meanwhile, changes in blood levels of prostaglandin E2alpha(PGE2alpha), interleukin-8 (IL-8) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) were measured. RESULTS: The total effective rate on cervical ripening was 96.7% in the treated group, which was significantly superior to those in the control group (83.3%) and the placebo group (26.7%, P < 0.05). The blood levels of PGE2alpha, IL-8, and ET-1 after treatment in the treated group were significantly higher than those in the placebo group (P < 0.05), and levels of PGE2alpha and IL-8 were higher in the control group than in the placebo group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: CZD can promote the cervical ripening through raising blood levels of PGE2alpha, IL-8 and ET-1, altering the structure of cervical tissue to reduce the cervical tension, which could increase the maturation of cervix, induce delivery sign, so as to elevate the vaginal delivery rate and reduce the percentage of caesarean birth.
