ABSTRACT

The relationship between glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) and an atherogenic lipid profile which is associated with a higher risk of cardiovascular disease is of interest. A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on 83 participants aged between 14 and 77 years. Their venous blood was drawn to determine the HbA1c and fasting lipid profile including total cholesterol triglycerides and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol (HDL-C) low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) non-HDL cholesterol and the LDL/HDL ratio were also calculated. The correlations between HbA1c levels and these lipid profile parameters were analyzed. The study showed a significant correlation between HbA1c and LDL-C non-HDL-C and the LDL/HDL ratio. Although there was no significant difference in total cholesterol levels among all groups the levels of total cholesterol and HbA1c were positively correlated. HDL-C exhibited direct correlations with HbA1c there was no correlation between HbA1c and clinical characteristics except for age. Data shows that HbA1c can be used as a predictor of dyslipidemia in diabetic patients there is a significant correlation between HbA1c and an atherogenic lipid profile which highlights the importance of glycemic control in reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease.

BACKGROUND: Monitoring protocols have been developed because patients taking atypical antipsychotics are more prone to developing metabolic syndrome, which leads to possible increased mortality and morbidity. The aim of this study was to assess the degree of adherence to the recommendations of metabolic syndrome monitoring. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study was conducted in two large psychiatric facilities in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia. A retrospective analysis of the medical records of 350 patients taking antipsychotic medications was done, and an assessment was made of the frequency of metabolic monitoring at each of the intervals as suggested by the American Diabetes Association. Data was analyzed using SPSS; descriptive statistics. were computed and Chi-square test was used to determine statistical significance for association between categorical variable. RESULTS: The mean age of the patients was 34.9 ± 18 years; 64.6% were males. Olanzapine was the most prescribed medication (43.7%, n = 153), followed by quetiapine (17.4%, n = 61). Only one-third of the patients (29.6%) completed all the baseline parameters. Documentation of baseline parameters was low for glucose level (38.9%), lipid panel (17.3%), weight (25.2%), and waist circumference (1.4%). Adherence to yearly monitoring was much lower than at baseline (mean percentage: 29.6% vs. 1.7%). Furthermore, 45% of the patients were classified as obese and 10% had metabolic comorbidity. CONCLUSION: Individuals with mental illness who were taking antipsychotics did not undergo proper metabolic screening during antipsychotic treatment. Barriers to adherence to the monitoring guidelines should be examined and addressed. Giving assistance to practitioners to recall the required laboratory tests and vitals at certain intervals could help improve metabolic monitoring practices.

ABSTRACT

We show the first example of an organic linker (OL) terminated by carboxylic groups that can form a hydrogen-bonded network/polymer (HBN) in solution under controlled conditions in which the photogenerated charges can hop from a monomer OL to the hydrogen-bonded backbone of OLs, as probed by transient absorption (fs-TA). While fs-TA reveals a slow twisting process in the monomer form of the OL, the formation of a hydrogen-bonded network in solution suppresses such process and favors instead a charge transfer (CT) state along the low-lying hydrogen-bonded backbone. Theoretical calculations show that such solvated HBN in a specific polar solvent is stabilized due to the huge change of the dipole moment from monomer compared to the network, leading to a charge delocalization character due to the symmetry breaking. Our findings will open new avenues for implementing solvated hydrogen-bonded molecules in applications such as sensing and photocatalysis.

BACKGROUND: Patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) are more likely to develop severe course of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) infection and experience increased risk of mortality compared to SARS-CoV-2 patients without CRC. OBJECTIVES: To estimate the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in CRC patients and analyse the demographic parameters, clinical characteristics and treatment outcomes in CRC patients with COVID-19 illness. METHODS: For this systematic review and meta-analysis, we searched Proquest, Medline, Embase, Pubmed, CINAHL, Wiley online library, Scopus and Nature for studies on the incidence of SARS-CoV-2 infection in CRC patients, published from December 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021, with English language restriction. Effect sizes of prevalence were pooled with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Sub-group analyses were performed to minimize heterogeneity. Binary logistic regression model was used to explore the effect of various demographic and clinical characteristics on patient's final treatment outcome (survival or death). RESULTS: Of the 472 papers that were identified, 69 articles were included in the systematic review and meta-analysis (41 cohort, 16 case-report, 9 case-series, 2 cross-sectional, and 1 case-control studies). Studies involving 3362 CRC patients with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 (all patients were adults) were analyzed. The overall pooled proportions of CRC patients who had laboratory-confirmed community-acquired and hospital-acquired SARS-CoV-2 infections were 8.1% (95% CI 6.1 to 10.1, n = 1308, 24 studies, I2 98%, p = 0.66), and 1.5% (95% CI 1.1 to 1.9, n = 472, 27 studies, I2 94%, p < 0.01). The median patient age ranged from 51.6 years to 80 years across studies. The majority of the patients were male (n = 2243, 66.7%) and belonged to White (Caucasian) (n = 262, 7.8%), Hispanic (n = 156, 4.6%) and Asian (n = 153, 4.4%) ethnicity. The main source of SARS-CoV-2 infection in CRC patients was community-acquired (n = 2882, 85.7%; p = 0.014). Most of those SARS-CoV-2 patients had stage III CRC (n = 725, 21.6%; p = 0.036) and were treated mainly with surgical resections (n = 304, 9%) and chemotherapies (n = 187, 5.6%), p = 0.008. The odd ratios of death were significantly high in patients with old age (≥ 60 years) (OR 1.96, 95% CI 0.94-0.96; p < 0.001), male gender (OR 1.44, 95% CI 0.41-0.47; p < 0.001) CRC stage III (OR 1.54, 95% CI 0.02-1.05; p = 0.041), CRC stage IV (OR 1.69, 95% CI 0.17-1.2; p = 0.009), recent active treatment with chemotherapies (OR 1.35, 95% CI 0.5-0.66; p = 0.023) or surgical resections (OR 1.4, 95% CI 0.8-0.73; p = 0.016) and admission to ICU (OR 1.88, 95% CI 0.85-1.12; p < 0.001) compared to those who survived. CONCLUSION: SARS-CoV-2 infection in CRC patient is not uncommon and results in a mortality rate of 26.2%. Key determinants that lead to increased mortality in CRC patients infected with COVID-19 include older age (≥ 60 years old); male gender; Asian and Hispanic ethnicity; if SARS-CoV-2 was acquired from hospital source; advanced CRC (stage III and IV); if patient received chemotherapies or surgical treatment; and if patient was admitted to ICU, ventilated or experienced ARDS.

ABSTRACT

Polyacrylonitrile (PAN) fabrics meet the customers' requirements in many aspects. Nevertheless, PAN fabrics suffer from low moisture regain and the accumulation of electrostatic charges on the fabric surface. Some PAN products exhibit rough a surface which is uncomfortable for human skin. Herein, we synthesized a new hydrophilic nonionic softener by reacting a fatty acid (FA), extracted from wool wax, with 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol (AMPD). Adopting the pad-dry-cure technique, the synthesized softener was chemically bound to pretreated PAN fabrics. Without deterioration of the fabrics' mechanical properties, new functions have been imparted to the treated PAN fabrics, viz., silk-like hand, induced resistance to the accumulation of electrostatic charges, and improved wettability. Fourier-transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and carbon-13 nuclear magnetic resonance (13C-NMR) were utilized for the structure elucidation of the prepared softener as well as to determine whether AMPD reacts with the fatty acid through its amino or hydroxyl group. The mechanism of the preparation of the softener as well as its mode of action on PAN fabrics were proposed. The effects of the applied softener on air and water permeability, ultraviolet protection factor (UPF), stiffness, tensile properties, and yellowness of the treated fabric were studied. The scanning electron micrographs of the treated fabric revealed the existence of a layer of the applied softener on the fabric surface. The finished fabric was found to be durable against washing for up to 20 cycles in terms of the fabric smoothness and durability.

ABSTRACT

Novel low-cost cellulose triacetate-based membranes extracted from palm fronds have been fabricated through the phase-inversion procedure. The cellulose tri-acetate (CTA) membrane was modified by incorporation of graphene oxide (GO) prepared from palm fronds according to the modified Hummer method as well as the preparation of polyamide thin film composite CTA membranes to improve forward osmosis performance for seawater desalination. The surface characteristics and morphology of the prepared CTA, GO, and the fabricated membranes were investigated. The modified TFC prepared membrane had superior mechanical characteristics as well as permeation of water. The performance of the prepared membranes was tested using synthetic 2 M Sodium chloride (NaCl) feed solution. The water flux (Jw) of the thin-film composite (TFC) (CTA/0.3% GO) was 35 L/m2h, which is much higher than those of pure CTA and CTA/0.3% GO. Meanwhile, the salt reverse flux TFC (CTA/0.3% GO) was 1.1 g/m2h), which is much lower than those of pure CTA and CTA/0.3%. GO (Specific salt flux of TFC (CTA/0.3% GO) substrate membrane was 0.03 g/L indicating good water permeation and low reverse salt flux of the TFC membrane compared to CTA. A real saline water sample collected from Hurgada, Egypt, with totally dissolved solids of 42,643 mg/L with NaCl as the draw solution (DS) at 25 °C and flow rate 1.55 L/min, was used to demonstrate the high performance of the prepared TFC membrane. The chemical analysis of desalted permeated water sample revealed the high performance of the prepared TFC membrane. Consequently, the prepared low-cost forward osmosis (FO) thin-film composite CTA membranes can be introduced in the desalination industry to overcome the high cost of reverse osmosis membrane usage in water desalination.

OBJECTIVE: Mechanical neck dysfunction (MND) is a major health burden. Although postural correction exercises (PCEs) are commonly used for its treatment, efficacy of Kinesio Taping (KT) has received considerable attention. This study was conducted to determine the effect of KT and PCEs on levator scapula (LS) electromyography. METHODS: Ninety-one patients with MND were randomly assigned into 1 of 3 groups that received 4 weeks' treatment: group A, KT; group B, PCE; and group C, both interventions. Neck pain, LS root mean square (RMS), and median frequency (MDF) were measured pretreatment and post-treatment with the Numerical Pain Rating Scale and surface electromyography, respectively, by an assessor blinded to the patients' allocation. RESULTS: Multivariate analysis of variance indicates a statistically significant group-by-time interaction (P = .000). Pain intensity was significantly reduced in group C more than in group B (P = .001). Mean values of RMS were significantly reduced in group C compared to both group A (P = .001) and group B (P = .022), whereas MDF was significantly increased in group C compared to either group A (P = .00) or group B (P = .026), and in group B compared to group A (P = 0.26). A paired t test revealed that there was a significant decrease in pain and RMS, and a significant increase in MDF in all groups (P < .01). CONCLUSION: Application of both KT and PCE combined can significantly reduce neck pain and normalize LS activities in patients with MND more than the application of either intervention.

ABSTRACT

This study aimed to detect etiologies and histopathological features of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) in Egyptian children < 10 years from hepatologist perspectives. Infants and children below 10 years of age with biopsy-proven fatty liver over a 6-year period were included. NAFLD activity score was used to detect the presence of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). The study included 66 cases whose age ranged between 5 months and 10 years. Transaminases were elevated in 60% patients. Glycogen storage disease (GSD) was the most common diagnosis (33.3%) followed by hepatitis C virus (HCV) (10.6%) and Chanarin-Dorfman syndrome (CDS) (9.1%). The cause of steatosis could not be identified in 28.8% of cases. There was a higher prevalence of secondary causes of NAFLD in patients < 10 years. Liver histopathological examination revealed preserved lobular architecture in 75.7% with minimal-to-mild fibrosis in 79%. Steatosis was macrovesicular in all specimens (severe steatosis in 39.4%). Four patients had NASH. Higher degree of steatosis was associated with more severe fibrosis (P = 0.01).Conclusion: GSD was the commonest cause of secondary NAFLD in Egyptian children < 10 years followed by HCV and CDS with higher degrees of steatosis in younger patients. The degree of fibrosis was significantly related to the degree of steatosis.What is Known:• Primary non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is rare in children aged less than 10 years.• Secondary causes of NAFLD should be considered in patients who do not have traditional risk factors.What is New:• Glycogen storage disease, hepatitis C virus, and Chanarin-Dorfman syndrome are the commonest causes of secondary NAFLD in Egyptian children (< 10 years) with higher degrees of steatosis in younger patients.• The degree of liver fibrosis is significantly related to the degree of steatosis.

BACKGROUND: Interstitial lung disease-associated antisynthetase syndrome (AS-ILD) carries significant morbidity and mortality. Corticosteroids and immunosuppressive drugs are the mainstay of treatment. Human immunoglobulin (IVIg), an immunomodulator without immunosuppressive properties, is effective in myositis but the evidence supporting its use in ILD is scarce. OBJECTIVE: To describe clinical outcomes of AS-ILD patients receiving IVIg. METHODS: Retrospective analysis of AS-ILD patients. Linear mixed models using restricted maximum likelihood estimation was used to estimate the change in lung function and corticosteroid dose over time. RESULTS: Data from 17 patients was analyzed. Median follow-up was 24.6 months. Fourteen patients had refractory disease. The mean percent-predicted forced vital capacity (FVC%) (p = 0.048) and percent-predicted diffusing capacity of the lung for carbon monoxide (DLCO%) (p = 0.0223) increased over time, while the mean prednisone dose (p < 0.001) decreased over time. Seven patients achieved a >10% increase in FVC%, including two who used IVIg as initial treatment. Five patients showed a >10% increase in DLCO% and TLC%. Nine (53%) patients experienced side effects. CONCLUSIONS: IVIg may be a useful complementary therapy in active progressive AS-ILD but is associated with potential side effects. Fssssurther investigation is required to determine the value of IVIg as an initial treatment in AS-ILD.

ABSTRACT

Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is a major national and international health burden. It is one of the most common liver diseases worldwide and the most common cause of abnormal liver enzymes in many developed countries. Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is also known as an important cause of cryptogenic cirrhosis and second leading cause for liver transplantation. It is commonly associated with metabolic syndrome. Non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) is the progressive phenotype of NAFLD. In spite of promising performance of non-invasive tools, liver biopsy remains the gold standard test for NASH diagnosis. Over decades, many drugs have been investigated in phase 2 and 3; however, no approved therapy to date. Despite the alarming global rates of NAFLD, there are no local community-based studies on the prevalence of NAFLD or local practice guidelines on its management; this expert review aims to fill this gap.

OBJECTIVES: Few dental conditions require treatment with antibiotics, yet dentists account for 7% of antimicrobial prescribing. In light of the emerging global problem of antibiotic resistance, this fact is problematic. Little is known about the antibiotic prescribing practices of dentists in Saudi Arabia. This study therefore aimed to investigate the attitudes of dentists in Saudi Arabia towards the prescription of antibiotics for pulpal and periapical pathology. METHODS: This was a cross-sectional study involving an online questionnaire on antibiotic prescribing practices. A total of 195 dentists in three areas of southern Saudi Arabia (Najran, Gizan and Asser) completed the survey. RESULTS: No significant differences in prescribing habits were found among respondents according to age, sex, level of education or time in endodontic practice. The percentage of respondents who reported that they would prescribe antibiotics for five endodontic conditions not requiring antibiotic treatment ranged from 8.1% to 28.1%. Most respondents (81.9%) would correctly prescribe antibiotics for a necrotic pulp with acute apical periodontitis and swelling; this result was consistent with previous studies. Reported antibiotic usage among the surveyed dentists was quite high. CONCLUSIONS: Relatively high antibiotic use suggests a need to educate both dentists and patients about restricting the use of antibiotics to cases of severe infection and when indicated. More educational initiatives to rationalise the use of antibiotics in dental practice are needed to avoid further contributing to antibiotic resistance.

ABSTRACT

HEHE is a rare neoplasm of vascular origin that occurs in the liver; UNOS reported a favorable outcome after liver transplantation in 110 patients with 1-year and 5-year survival of 80% and 64%. Case Report. A 40-year-old lady presented with a three-month history of right upper abdominal pain with nausea, vomiting, and significant loss of weight associated with scleral icterus and progressive abdominal distension. Examination revealed jaundice, hepatomegaly, and ascites. Serum bilirubin was 26.5 mg/dL and ALP was 552 CT. Abdomen and pelvis showed diffuse infiltrative neoplastic process of the liver with a mass effect and stretching of the hepatic and portal veins, in addition to bile duct dilatation. Viral hepatitis markers were negative and serum alpha fetoprotein was within reference range. Liver biopsy was consistent with HEHE, with positive endothelial markers (CD31, CD34, and factor VIII-related antigen). She underwent living related liver transplantation on June 2013 and was discharged after 20 days with normal liver enzymes. Four months later, she presented with diffuse disease recurrence. Liver biopsy confirmed disease recurrence; she received supportive treatment and unfortunately she died 2 weeks later. Conclusion. HEHE can have rapid and aggressive recurrence after liver transplantation.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this article was to apply psychometric theory to develop and validate a visual grading scale for assessing the visual perception of digital image quality anteroposterior (AP) pelvis. METHODS: Psychometric theory was used to guide scale development. Seven phantom and seven cadaver images of visually and objectively predetermined quality were used to help assess scale reliability and validity. 151 volunteers scored phantom images, and 184 volunteers scored cadaver images. Factor analysis and Cronbach's alpha were used to assess scale validity and reliability. RESULTS: A 24-item scale was produced. Aggregated mean volunteer scores for each image correlated with the rank order of the visually and objectively predetermined image qualities. Scale items had good interitem correlation (≥0.2) and high factor loadings (≥0.3). Cronbach's alpha (reliability) revealed that the scale has acceptable levels of internal reliability for both phantom and cadaver images (α = 0.8 and 0.9, respectively). Factor analysis suggested that the scale is multidimensional (assessing multiple quality themes). CONCLUSION: This study represents the first full development and validation of a visual image quality scale using psychometric theory. It is likely that this scale will have clinical, training and research applications. ADVANCES IN KNOWLEDGE: This article presents data to create and validate visual grading scales for radiographic examinations. The visual grading scale, for AP pelvis examinations, can act as a validated tool for future research, teaching and clinical evaluations of image quality.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: The purpose of this study was to evaluate clinically and radiographically median lingualized occlusion in implant-retained mandibular complete overdenture. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten completely edentulous male patients were participated in this study. Each patient received two implants in the intraforaminal area of the edentulous mandible that were left unloaded for 4 months. Patients were received conventional maxillary complete denture and implant mandibular overdenture with ball and socket attachment. The posterior teeth were set according to median lingualized occlusion scheme. All patients were evaluated clinically and radiographically immediately after denture insertion, 6 and 12 months of overdenture insertion. RESULTS: The results revealed significant differences in probing depth, gingival index, plaque index, and marginal bone height between the different follow-up periods. With the limitation of this study, and according to the results of the mean marginal bone loss and the other peri-implant parameters after 1 year of loading. CONCLUSION: The implant retained overdenture with the median lingualized occlusal scheme may be recognized as being acceptable according to the general implant success rates and criteria.

ABSTRACT

The main objective of this work is to synthesize CdTe quantum dots (QDs) conjugated with Concanavalin A (Con A) as a novel biosensor to be selective and specific for the detection of Lipopolysaccharide (LPS). In addition, the conjugated CdTe QDs-Con A was used as fluorescence labels to capture Serratia marcescens bacteria through the recognition between CdTe QDs-Con A and LPS of S. marcescens. The appearance of the lattice plans in the high resolution transmission electron photograph indicated a high crystalline with an average size of 4-5 nm for the CdTe QDs. The results showed that the relative fluorescence intensity of CdTe QDs-Con A decreased linearly with LPS concentration in the range from 10 to 90 fg/mL and with correlation coefficient (R(2)) equal to 0.9713. LPS surrounding the S. marcescens bacteria was bound to the CdTe QDs-Con A and leads to quenching of PL intensity. It was found that a good linear relationship between the relative PL intensity and the logarithmic of cell population of S. marcescens in range from 1×10 to 1×10(6) CFU/mL at pH 7 with R(2) of 0.952 was established.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This study was conducted to compare and evaluate the effect of two different attachments (locator attachment and ball and socket [B&S] attachment) on implants and natural abutments supporting structures, in cases of limited inter-arch spaces in mandibular Kennedy Class I implant supported removable partial over dentures by measuring the bone height changes through the cone beam radiographic technology. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Two implants were positioned in the first or second molar area following the two-stage surgical protocol. Two equal groups were divided ten for each: Group I: Sides were the placed implants restored by the locator attachment. Group II: The other sides, implants were restored by B&S attachment. Evaluation of the implants and main abutments supporting structures of each group was done at the time of removable partial over denture insertion, 6, 12 and 18 months by measuring the bone height changes using cone beam computed tomography. RESULTS: Implants with locator attachment showed marginal bone height better effects on implants and main abutments supporting structures. CONCLUSION: Implants restored by locator attachment shows better effects on bone of both main natural abutments and implant than those restored with ball and socket.

BACKGROUND: This study evaluated and compared the bacteriological effect of two-piece implants and one-piece implants in complete overdenture cases on supporting structures. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Ten male completely edentulous patients were selected and randomly divided into two equal groups according to the implant design and surgical technique for this study; Group 1: Patients were rehabilitated with complete mandibular overdenture supported by two-piece implants one on each side of the lower arch following two-stage surgical technique and Group 2: Patients were rehabilitated with complete mandibular overdenture supported by one-piece implants one on each side. Evaluation was made at the time of insertion, 6, 12, and 18 months after overdenture insertion, by measuring bacteriological changes around implants abutments. RESULTS: Complete overdenture supported by one-piece implants showed better effect on the bacteriological changes as compared to that supported by two-piece implants. CONCLUSION: Complete overdenture supported by one-piece implants one on each side of the lower arch showed better effect on the bacteriological changes than using the same prosthesis supported by two-piece implants.

ABSTRACT

This study was designed with an aim to detect the congenital anomalies appear to be linked to and in conjunction with hydrocephalus fetuses in Sudan, when ultrasound is used to exam fetuses in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. This prospective cohort study was performed from December 2011 to December 2013, in a group consists of 5000 single gestation pregnant Sudanese women. In all cases, maternal ages were 35 years up to 48 years; mean age of 42.5 years. Pelvic; obstetric ultrasound scanning protocol used should meet the standards established by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine (AIUM) for scanning in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy. Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) was used to analyze the results. Diagnosed hydrocephalus cases (0.4%) were found to be associated with other fetal anomalies as aqueduct stenosis (45%), spina bifida (30%), Arnold-Chiari malformation (20%) and Dandy-Walker malformation (5%). The incidence of congenital anomalies and hydrocephalus in Sudanese fetuses showed considerable variation among different regions of Sudan. Hydrocephalus is associated with certain congenital anomalies. In agreement with previous studies, hydrocephalus is predominantly in male rather than female fetuses. The prevalence of fetal anomalies and hydrocephalus are within previously reported ranges.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To report 10 cases of rectus abdominis endometrioma, emphasizing the clinical presentations, imaging investigations, cytohistological findings, and surgical treatment employed. METHODS: This is a descriptive analysis of 10 surgically-proven cases of rectus abdominis muscle endometriosis, seen over a 5-year period from 2007 to 2012 at Sohag University Hospital, Sohag, Egypt and Najran Armed Forces Hospital, Najran, Saudi Arabia. All patients had undergone ultrasonography. Computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) were performed in some cases. Surgical excision was the way of treatment in all patients. RESULTS: This study was carried out in 10 women with a mean age of 33.9 years. Nine cases had previous history of cesarean section (CS) while one patient had laparoscopy converted to laparotomy for ovarian cyst. All patients were presented with abdominal pain but only 3 had a palpable mass. Ten lesions within the rectus abdominis muscle were detected with automated ultrasound and MRI depicted one lesion, which was missed by ultrasound in a patient who had 2 concomitant lesions. Preoperative fine needle aspiration (FNA) was carried out in 2 patients. Wide surgical excision was performed in all cases. Histopathology was confirmatory in each instance. No complications or recurrence were recorded on follow-up (6-24 months; mean 13.2 months). CONCLUSION: This disease is not as rare as previously thought, and should be included in the differential diagnosis of abdominal wall masses in reproductive-age females.
