ABSTRACT
Se realizó un estudio en 294 niños, en edades comprendidas entre 6 y 12 años del municipio Güines, Provincia La Habana, en el período comprendido desde noviembre del 2003 hasta junio del 2004, con la finalidad de determinar la prevalencia y gravedad de la enfermedad periodontal y el grado de higiene bucal. Fueron utilizados los índices gingival de Lõe y Silness y el de placa de Silness y Lõe. Se realizaron técnicas de grupo focal y nominal para facilitar la recolección de información cualitativa, que nos permitió identificar los principales problemas y establecer sus prioridades. Se determinó que la prevalencia de la Enfermedad Periodontal es considerablemente alta en el universo estudiado, la gravedad se mantiene en los valores más bajos del Índice Gingival de Lõe y Silness, no siendo significativa la relación entre la enfermedad periodontal con la edad y el sexo. En el grupo estudiado existe un predominio de Higiene Bucal deficiente y una correlación significativa entre esta y la enfermedad periodontal. Los problemas de Salud identificados permitirán en el futuro la elaboración de una estrategia de intervención con la más amplia participación intersectorial y vinculando la labor del Especialista de Periodoncia con la Atención Primaria de Salud (AU)
A study in 294 children with ages between 6 and 12 years of the municipality Güines, Province Havana was carried out, in the period understood from November from the 2003 to June of the 2004, with the purpose to determine the prevalence and gravity of the illness periodontal and the degree of oral hygiene. They were utilized the gum indices of Löe and Silness and that of plate of Silness and Löe. Techniques of focal group they were carried out and nominal value to facilitate the harvesting of qualitative information, that permitted us to identify the main problems and to establish its priorities. It was determined that the prevalence of the Illness Periodontal is considerably high in the universe studied, the gravity is maintained in the lowest values of the Gum Index of Löe and Silness, not being significant the relation among the illness periodontal with the age and the sex. In the group studied a predominance of deficient Oral Hygiene exists and a significant correlation between this and the illness periodontal. The problems of identifying Health will permit in the future the elaboration of an intervention strategy with the most extensive participation intersectorial and linking the work of the Specialist of Periodontics with the Primary Attention of Health
