ABSTRACT

Concurrent clinicomorphological studies were carried out in patients with malignant Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin lymphomas treated in the Hematologic Clinic of the High Medical Institute in Pleven. The frequency of the different clinicomorphological variants and their classification in accordance with their initial localization, clinical stage and histological variant were studied. Some clinicomorphological features of the patients studied are analyzed.

ABSTRACT

The clinical and histomorphologic characteristics of the liver lesions in patients with Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas were analyzed. The pathogenic importance of the specific lymphoma infiltration of the liver, the toxic drug and viral action is discussed. Rare cases of a combination of lymphoma metaplasia with cancers in other organs and jaundice are discussed.

ABSTRACT

With consideration given to the actuality of the problem of drug affections of hemopoiesis, the authors carried out clinical-morphological studies on drug-induced bone marrow insufficiency. The study covers 203 patients, treated at the Hematological Clinic of Higher Medical Institute-Pleven during the period 1976-1984. Drug etiological factors (other than cytostatics) were established in 23.2% of the patients with bone marrow hypoplasias and in 83.33% of those with leuko- and granulocytopenia, the non-narcotic analgesics responsible for the greatest share. Some clinical and morphological characteristics of the various clinical-hematological forms of the drug-induced bone marrow insufficiency are described. The necessity of purposeful hematological control is stressed on in case of long-term administration of drugs with potential hematotoxicity.

ABSTRACT

A case of a male patient with bronchopneumonia incorrectly treated for a long time with methacycline (rondomycin), an oxytetracycline drug, is reported. methacycline was applied in a dose of 8 capsules daily (2 capsules 4 times) in the course of 2 1/2 months, the total dose amounting to about 150 g. The patient developed severe toxic hepatitis as a result of this incorrect treatment. The hepatitis was manifested by jaundice and cytolysis. The bone marrow was also affected--hypoplasia marked by combined depression of leuko-, erythro- and thrombopoiesis and peripheral pancytopenia. In addition chloramphenicol treatment was applied which increased the toxic impairment of the liver and the bone marrow. The liver and bone marrow impairment are most probably due to the direct toxic action of methacycline applied for a very long time in an unusually high dose.

ABSTRACT

The objective of the present study was to obtain information about the duration of tissue hypoxia in patients with iron deficiency anemia. That fact is of importance for the determination of the duration of maintenance iron therapy. The level of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate was studied during the treatment, after the correction of anemic syndrome and after 60-day out-patient department treatment. The data obtained revealed that the level of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate was considerably elevated, as compared with the norm, before the treatment. After the active treatment and correction of anemic syndrome it was decreased, but remaining above the norm. By the 60th day of the out-patient department treatment the decrease continued and the level of 2,3-diphosphoglycerate approached the norm.

ABSTRACT

Intraerythrocyte content of 2,3-DPG and ATP was determined in 29 patients with leukemic diseases, acute stage of the disease. A considerable increase of 2,3-DPG and ATP was found in the patients with chronic myeloleucosis and blast leucosis. The elevation of 2,3-DPG is minimum om case of chronic lympholeucosis, whereas ATP remains unchanged. The changes in the those substances found are a manifestation of the present compensatory potentialities of erythrocyte metabolism of those patients.
