ABSTRACT

The world has capitalized on numerous renewable energy resources by developing its energy infrastructure mainly around solar, biomass, and hydro energy. However, geothermal energy has not yet been developed at a significant scale, despite reports from 62 wells showing evidence of geothermal gradients ranging from 20.8 °C/km to 48.7 °C/km in various areas of the world. Recent studies suggest that Bangladesh also has a huge potential for geothermal energy. This review extensively reports on exploiting the range of geothermal temperature in various direct and indirect energy application sectors including but not limited to the agriculture and industrial sector of Bangladesh. Additionally, the authors have analyzed and proposed adaptable measures to harness the abundance of geothermal energy. Furthermore, a comparative and possible solution has been discussed extensively for implementing a geothermal powerplant by analyzing techno-economic costs, policies, and systems of other countries in the world. Further, this review also shows the prospect of geothermal energy for Bangladesh as a case study.

ABSTRACT

With the increasing trend of the urban population in Bangladesh, waste generation is also increasing. With 70% organic solid waste, the urban areas generate 23,688 tonnes of waste per day. This rapid enhancement in waste production has an adverse effect onlandfill resources and the day-to-day lifestyle. In this regard adopting waste to energy techniques can be considered good idea to overcome the current waste management problem. This WtE conversion technique solves the landfill resources problem and produces electricity and heat to be supplied. This study aims to investigate the current status of MSW management in Bangladesh and identify the major problems. Here, five fundamental methods such as pyrolysis, incineration, anaerobic digestion (AD), gasification, hydrothermal carbonization (HTC) are reviewed critically and discussed the feasibilities in Bangladesh to generate power. The analysis is done considering different types of parameters like moisture content, calorific value, and residence time. These analyses pertaining to MSW management may be fruitful for encouraging researchers and authorities to improve further.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Weather parameters such as temperature, humidity, air quality index and wind speed are the important factors influencing the infectious diseases like Covid-19. Therefore, this study aims to discuss and analyse the relation between weather parameters and the spread of Coronavirus disease (Covid-19) from the perspective of Bangladesh. METHODS: Correlation among weather parameters and infection and death rate were established using several graphical plots and wind rose diagrams, Kendall and Spearman correlation and appropriate discussion with relevancy and reference. Information presented in this study has been extracted from 1st April 2020 to 30th December 2020. RESULTS: Analyses show that with the decrease in temperature, infection rate increased significantly. Also, the number of infection increases as wind speed increases. As the absolute humidity rate of Bangladesh is almost constant; therefore, the authors are unable to predict any relation of absolute humidity with the number of infection. Further, the prediction for the number of infections based on the wind direction for the several regions of seven divisions in Bangladesh is vulnerable for the upcoming several months. CONCLUSION: This study has analysed the dependency of weather parameters on a number of infections along with predicting the upcoming danger zones.
