ABSTRACT

Supplier selection is regarded as the primary goal of supply chain management (SCM) because it affects its performance, productivity, pleasure, flexibility, and system speed in lockdown. A new method is proposed based on a multi-stage fuzzy sustainable supplier index (FSSI). Experts can use the triple bottom line (TBL) criteria to select the best supplier. In addition, the worst method is proposed based on trapezoidal membership and fuzzy membership functions, which can cover uncertainties and ambiguous environments. Because it collects the related criteria and sub-criteria and uses a direct fuzzy methodology, this research has impacted the SCM literature because it helps solve previous expert methods' computational difficulties. In addition, an ordered mean integration representation method has been implemented to prioritize the selection of the best supplier (SS) based on the sustainability performance of the best supplier, which improves the selection accuracy compared to the previous ranking method. This study can be used as a benchmark to determine which supplier is the best in sustainability. To provide the superiority and broad applicability of the proposed model, a practical case study was completed. On the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic harms productivity, company performance, and selecting the best suppliers based on sustainability performance. The lockdown situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic hurts company performance and management.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Handheld fundus cameras are portable and cheaper alternatives to table-top counterparts. To date there have been no studies comparing feasibility and clinical utility of handheld fundus cameras to table-top devices. We compare the feasibility and clinical utility of four handheld fundus cameras/retinal imaging devices (Remidio NMFOP, Volk Pictor Plus, Volk iNview, oDocs visoScope) to a table-top camera (Zeiss VisucamNM/FA). SUBJECTS/METHODS: Healthy participants (n = 10, mean age ± SD = 21.0 ± 0.9 years) underwent fundus photography with five devices to assess success/failure rates of image acquisition. Participants with optic disc abnormalities (n = 8, mean age ± SD = 26.8 ± 15.9) and macular abnormalities (n = 10, mean age ± SD = 71.6 ± 15.4) underwent imaging with the top three scoring fundus cameras. Images were randomised and subsequently validated by ophthalmologists masked to the diagnoses and devices used. RESULTS: Image acquisition success rates (100%) were achieved in non-mydriatic and mydriatic settings for Zeiss, Remidio and Pictor, compared with lower success rates for iNview and oDocs. Image quality and gradeability were significantly higher for Zeiss, Remidio and Pictor (p < 0.0001) compared to iNview and oDocs. For cup:disc ratio estimates, similar levels of bias were seen for Zeiss (-0.09 ± SD:0.15), Remidio (-0.07 ± SD:0.14) and Pictor (-0.05 ± SD:0.16). Diagnostic sensitivities were highest for Zeiss (84.9%; 95% CI, 78.2-91.5%) followed by Pictor (78.1%; 95% CI, 66.6-89.5%) and Remidio (77.5%; 95% CI, 65.9-89.0%). CONCLUSIONS: Remidio and Pictor achieve comparable results to the Zeiss table-top camera. Both devices achieved similar scores in feasibility, image quality, image gradeability and diagnostic sensitivity. This suggests that these devices potentially offer a more cost-effective alternative in certain clinical scenarios.

ABSTRACT

Greening of the hotel industry can be achieved through employees' green service recovery performance (GSRP) of employees to determine environment-friendly or unfriendly issues driven by environmental commitment and green human resource management (HRM) practices. This article attempts to resolve the research problem by analyzing the moderating effect of transformational leadership style on green HRM practices with employee environmental commitment (EEC) and GSRP in the hotel industry. The present study recruited 489 front-line employees (FLE) and their 24 direct managers. The research results reveal that environmental commitment of employee mediates the relationship between green HRM practices and GSRP. Moreover, the transformational leadership style moderates the relationship between green HRM practices and employee environmental commitment in the hotel industry. The study has critical insights and implications for hotel managers and theory.

ABSTRACT

Solar photovoltaic panels are green products that can alleviate the threat of global warming, but the rate of adoption remains low. This research explores the social influence on consumers' purchase willingness or intention of solar photovoltaic panels in the online context. According to social influence theory, we identify two social influence dimensions: informational social influence and normative social influence. Moreover, we analyze the antecedents of social influence: source credibility and social support and the moderating effects of perceived monetary benefits and environmental concerns. Data were collected from individuals, and A.M.O.S. is used to analyze the data. The results reveal that both informational social influence and normative social influence positively affect purchase willingness. When perceived monetary benefits or environmental concerns are higher, the positive relationships are stronger. Moreover, we find that source credibility (including expertise and trustworthiness of peers) and social support (including informational social support and emotional social support) positively affect two social influence types. The findings provide insights into enhancing individuals' willingness or intention to purchase solar photovoltaic panels.

ABSTRACT

Orbital complications after endoscopic sinus surgery are serious problems. Inadvertent contamination of the eye by pharmacological solution can lead to early postoperative anxiety to patients and high concern to surgeons. This is a rare case report of retrograde epinephrine flow through lacrimal duct in sinus surgery with learning tips during postoperative assessment for reassurance in temporary pharmacological effect rather than serious complication.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: During the current coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, some ophthalmologists across the United Kingdom (UK) have been redeployed to areas of need across the National Health Service (NHS). This survey was performed to assess aspects of this process including training & education, tasks expected, availability of personal protection equipment (PPE) used and the overall anxiety of ophthalmologists around their redeployment. METHOD: Online anonymous survey around the existing guidance on safe redeployment of secondary care NHS staff and PPE use by NHS England and Public Health England respectively. The survey was open to all ophthalmologists across the UK irrespective of their redeployment status. FINDINGS: 145 surveys were completed and returned during a 2-week period between 17th April 2020 and 1st May 2020, when 52% of ophthalmologists were redeployed. The majority of this group consisted of ophthalmologists in training (79%). 81% of those redeployed were assigned to areas of the hospital where patients with confirmed Coronavirus disease were being treated as inpatients. There was a statistically significant improvement in anxiety level following redeployment which was mainly attributed to the support received by staff within the redeployed area. 71% of the redeployed group were found to have sufficient PPE was provided for the area they worked in. INTERPRETATION: This is the first national survey performed on redeployment of ophthalmologists in the UK. The study showed that ophthalmologists across all grades were able to contribute in most aspects of patient care. Anxiety of redeployment was reduced by prior training and good support in the redeployment area.

ABSTRACT

Waste management is an emerging focus in Pakistan. Specifically, waste-to-energy (WtE) projects are conceived to obtain benefits from municipal waste collection in metropolitan cities. This study provides a brief background of WtE potential, waste collection statistics, type of generated wastes, and current measures to build the confidence of investors in WtE projects. In addition, a brief overview of government efforts for WtE and delineation of licensing requirements for power generation are discussed. The parameters laid down for the determination of tariffs for municipal waste management power projects and the cost accounted for each parameter are analyzed in detail. Similarly, this study deliberates on observations among stakeholders and compares Pakistan tariffs with those of neighboring countries.

ABSTRACT

This research seeks to determine what makes young adults materialistic. The study examines the mediating role of materialism between the contextual factors and compulsive buying. Data was gathered from 219 Pakistani undergraduate university students. Partial Least Square (PLS) technique was used to analyze the data. The study confirms the intuition that more materialistic young adults are more likely to be involved in compulsive buying than are less materialistic young adults. The results were similar with the previous literature conducted in the western culture, indicating that also applies in a modern Islamic society. The findings of the study reveal that materialism mediated the relationship between certain sociological factors (i.e., group, media Celebrity endorsement, and TV advertisement) and compulsive buying. The study highlights the importance of understanding young adults' materialistic attitudes and consumption decisions and provides key knowledge for researchers, policymakers, and managers of leading brands.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To study the practice of dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) surgery by ophthalmologists in the United Kingdom (UK) looking at the evaluation techniques used, surgical variations, and follow-up management of DCR cases. METHODS: A mail-shot questionnaire was designed and distributed to every UK consultant ophthalmologist on the specialist register held by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. The questionnaire consisted of eight questions and an image of a typical DCR candidate so respondents could illustrate details of their surgical incision. The data received was entered into a database and analyzed with the SPSS statistical package. The variation in incisions was divided into various sub-types and quantified accordingly. The chi-square test and analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used to calculate significance, which was set at p < 0.05. RESULTS: A response rate of over 75% was achieved amongst the 800 questionnaires dispatched, almost one-third of which perform DCR surgery. Of these, almost 50% were non-lacrimal specialists. The majority never use the endonasal approach, with 59% never performing preoperative nasal endoscopy. Most respondents use a standard incision 10-15 mm long with routine silicone intubation. Lacrimal specialists tended to remove tubes earlier (week 4 to 8) and suture posterior flaps more often than non-specialists. Significant differences in practice were found between lacrimal and non-lacrimal specialists in most parameters, in addition to differences between members and non-members of the National Oculoplastic Surgery Society. CONCLUSIONS: A minimum of 200 DCR surgeons are practicing in the UK where almost 50% are non-lacrimal specialists. Marked variations exist in the perioperative DCR practice.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To investigate the quantity and severity of contact lens complications referred into Hull Royal Infirmary Ophthalmic A&E, their impact on resources and whether their management and treatment was appropriate. METHODS: A survey was conducted over a 7-month period at Hull Royal Infirmary Ophthalmic A&E Unit. In this time 100 patients were enrolled, all completed a questionnaire including information about lens type and wearing schedule, and were photographed. All were examined, and where necessary treated by the Ophthalmic A&E doctor. RESULTS: Contact lens complications accounted for 9.1% of the referrals into Ophthalmic A&E, a total of 323 appointments. Microbial keratitis was the most common diagnosis (22%), and Klebsiella and Pseudomonas the most common pathogen implicated. A case of Fusarium was also recorded. Optometrists/contact lens practitioners were the most common referral source (41%). Soft lens wearers were most common (67%), followed by silicone hydrogel wearers (28%) and least common were rigid gas permeable wearers (5%). Ten percent of the patients referred into the department were admitted. CONCLUSION: Education of the patient in their wear schedule and hygiene are still significant factors in their risk of developing contact lens complications. A closer working relationship needs to be fostered between Community Optometrists and Eye Departments to give the most appropriate management of contact lens related problems which would help alleviate undue burdens on Ophthalmic A&E.
