ABSTRACT

The very old people is a growing population group in Russia and in Moscow in particular that requires more close attention as it demands special medical and social approaches. The investigation was based on data obtained from Moscow district clinics concerning the gender and pathologies structure of people aged 90 yrs and older. In this group women prevailed in total amount and among those older 100 yrs. Striking gender difference was revealed in disturbances of the carbohydrate metabolism. The most frequent pathologies in this population are cardiovascular, nerve and gastrointestine duct systems diseases that have equal prevalence among men and women. Centenarians appeared to be healthier than those in the group of 90-94 yrs. Many of them could serve themselves without extra help (36,48% versus 13,06%). The results obtained in this research must be helpful in the organization of geriatric clinics and cabinets.

ABSTRACT

The authors measured serum and whole blood levels of macro- and microelements (ME), such as iron, zinc, sulfur, potassium, calcium in 149 aged patients, suffering from coronary heart disease. The levels of the above ME were measured in various age groups: younger than 60, 60 to 74, 80 to 89 and older than 90 years old. In 36 aged women ME levels were established in correlation with bone mineral density.

ABSTRACT

Results of Antilympholin-K3 use in combined treatment of purulent-inflammatory complications in polytrauma, diabetes, infected pancreonecrosis are analysed. Thirty-nine patients aged from 19 to 74 years were treated. Double injection of Antilympholin-K3 enhanced phagocytic activity of neutrophils, phagocytic index, chemiluminescence of mononuclears and neutrophils, immunoglobulins concentration. Positive dynamics in immunological indices is accompanied by improving clinical status, cleaning of postoperative wounds from pus, improving of epithelisation.

ABSTRACT

Using the method of roentgen fluorescent analysis a study was carried out on the content of macro- and trace elements (ferrum, zink, sulfur, potassium, calcium) in whole blood and serum of 62 women with bronchial asthma (BA) depending on severity of the disease and performed therapy. The study revealed a disrupted content of studied chemical elements in serum and whole blood of patients having BA of various severity: reduction in the level of sulfur and potassium and increase of ferrum and zink proportionally to the severity of process. At the same time calcium ions redistributed from serum to blood cells. A high concentration of chemical elements in whole blood was observed in patients who had received systemic glucocorticoids (GC) as basic therapy compared with patients treated with inhalation GC.

ABSTRACT

We studied the levels of acute inflammation phase proteins (AIPP), production of alpha, gamma and serum interferons, the activity of epsilon-receptors of T-lymphocytes in 39 patients with bronchial asthma (BA). Correlations were made with the process severity and basic therapy. We discovered imbalance of immunoregulatory mechanisms: enhanced AIPP synthesis, low production of induced alpha and gamma interferons, elevated concentrations of poor-differentiated T-lymphocytes. This confirms persisting inflammation in BA.

ABSTRACT

Bronchial asthma (BA) course and menopausal features were studied in 58 perimenopausal women. Effects of menopause on BA clinical manifestations were considered. 19 patients on climonorm therapy were examined immunologically. It was found that premenopause and perimenopause deteriorate BA clinical picture whereas hormone replacement therapy with climonorm produce a positive effect on menopause and BA. In long-term hormone treatment it is necessary to follow up immune status.

ABSTRACT

The paper reports glucocorticoid actions in bronchial asthma, covers problems of individual sensitivity to glucocorticoids and resistance to hormones, illustrates the dependence of beclometasone dipropionate efficacy on condition of glucocorticoid receptors in alveolar macrophages and clinical appearance of the disease, describes physiological features of patients with hormone-resistant bronchial asthma and its new treatment (extracorporeal photohemotherapy) allowing reduction of prednisolone dose in 14 of 15 patients from 29.6 to 11.4 mg/day, on the average.

ABSTRACT

Out of 162 workers exposed to chemicals in the manufacture of construction plastics an outpatient and inpatient examination revealed gastrointestinal problems in 84.3%, vegetative nervous disorders in 62.6% of the examinees. In a random sample of 47 workers high acid production occurred in 63.3% and erosions, ulcers, cicatrices in the stomach and duodenum in 45.2% of them. No HLA genetic predisposition to duodenal ulcer was reported. Histological findings on gastroduodenal mucosa biopsies were indicative of the dystrophy in the chief and lining cells of the gastric glands, epithelium and stroma with formation of the dark cells. The authors insist on consideration of the above facts in examination and treatment of workers exposed to chemicals at construction plastics plants.

ABSTRACT

The data on the results of clinico-immunological examination of 46 infants having purulent inflammatory infections in the first month of their life and treated with (a) immunoglobulin for intravenous injection, (b) with hyperimmune antistaphylococcal plasma and immunoglobulin for intravenous injection and (c) without the use of specific hyperimmune preparations are presented. The clinico-laboratory data thus obtained (the levels of serum immunoglobulins and the content of T-rosette-forming lymphocytes) are indicative of the expediency of including the intravenous injection of donor immunoglobulin into the complex therapy of newborn infants with severe and moderate forms of purulent inflammatory infections at an early period of the disease irrespective of its etiology.

ABSTRACT

High efficacy of prodigiozan, a bacterial polysaccharide used in the form of inhalation in combined therapy of 123 children at the age of 3 to 14 with nonspecific bronchopulmonary pathologic conditions was shown. The drug was administered by means of inhalators UI-I and PAI-I once every 4--5 days in the form of 0.02 per cent solution prepared in situ. The single and the course doses were 100--400 and 300--2000 micrograms respectively. The positive therapeutic effect was observed in 85.0 per cent of the patients: improvement of the patient state was registered 4--6 days earlier than that in the control group, the indices of the respiration mechanics and nonspecific immunity (titers of lysozyme and complement) also improved. The rate of viral respiratory diseases among the children treated with prodigiozan decreased 2.5 times. High efficacy and physiological character of the aerosol method for administration of prodigiozan used the the first time in pediatry provided its recommendation for wide use.
