ABSTRACT

Syringocystadenoma papilliferum is a rare benign adnexal tumor that originates from the apocrine and eccrine glands. It mainly manifests as a solitary lesion in the head and neck; however, rarely, it may involve the trunk and limbs, typically with a linear pattern. Here, we report an extremely rare case of congenital linear syringocystadenoma papilliferum on the left buttock near the anus in a 6-year-old girl. This lesion should be considered in the list of differential diagnosis of linear lesions in order to prevent complications with proper diagnosis, treatment or follow-up.

ABSTRACT

Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is a rare primary immunodeficiency disorder that is characterized by deficiencies in the phagocytes capacity to eliminate ingested microorganisms, which frequently causes bacterial and fungal infections. The extensive involvement of the lungs, ribs, and vertebrae that is complicated by multiple abscesses from aspergillosis is rare. in this study, we report a 13-year-old boy with CGD who experienced concurrent pneumonia, rib osteomyelitis, spondylodiscitis, paravertebral, and epidural abscesses as a result of Aspergillus flavus infection with associated computed tomography scan and magnetic resonance imaging findings. Patients with CGD are susceptible to Aspergillus infection. Correct diagnosis based on clinical and paraclinical findings as well as choosing the best treatment regimen is essential for achieving a favorable outcome.

ABSTRACT

Necrotizing fasciitis and myonecrosis caused by Escherichia coli is an extremely uncommon infection with a high mortality. We present a case of 41-year-old man with no history of underlying disease one week after covid-19 infection, who was admitted with symptoms of Fournier's gangrene and then E. coli-induced monomicrobial necrotizing fasciitis.

ABSTRACT

Aneurysmal bone cysts (ABCs) are benign lesions that are locally invasive. The prevalence of soft tissue ABCs is far lower than the intraosseous type. Here, we report a case of ABC in thigh muscles who presented with distal thigh pain.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: One of the most important and common complications of diabetes is a disorder and defect in diabetic wound healing. AIMS: The aim of present study was to investigate the synergistic effects of decellularized human amniotic membrane (dHAM) engraftment and adipose-derived stem cells (ADSs) transplantation in the healing of delayed and ischemic diabetic wound. METHODS: Sixty diabetic male rats were randomly divided into four groups (n = 15), including untreated (Control) group, engraftment by dHAM (dHAM) group, transplanted by ADSs (ADS) group, and engraftment by dHAM plus transplanted by ADSs (dHAM + ADS) group. Sampling was performed on Days 7, 14, and 21 after surgery. Evaluation tests included stereology, immunohistochemistry, molecular, and biomechanical. RESULTS: Our results showed that the wound closure rate, volumes of newly formed epidermis and dermis, density of fibroblasts and blood vessels, collagen deposition, density of proliferation cells, expression levels of TGF-ß and VEGF genes, and biomechanical characteristics were significantly higher in all treated groups compared with control group; however, these changes were considerable in the combination group. This is while that the density of neutrophils and expression levels of TNF-α and IL-1ß genes in the treated groups, especially in the combination group, were significantly reduced compared with control group. CONCLUSION: Generally, the simultaneous use of dHAM and ADS accelerates healing and improves the quality of repaired diabetic wounds.

ABSTRACT

Nevus comedonicus (NC) is a rare developmental anomaly of the folliculosebaceous apparatus, which appears as numerous dilated papules containing firm, darkly pigmented, horny plugs. It appears shortly after birth and mostly before the age of 10; however, late-onset cases have been reported. There is no gender or racial predilection. Moreover, NC can be a component of nevus comedonicus syndrome, a neurocutaneous disorder with skeletal, ocular, and central nervous system abnormalities. EHK properties in NC are not a common finding and are rarely seen in association with each other. This paper reports a healthy, 27-year-old young woman who has been developing numbers of asymptomatic unilateral linear skin lesions on her chest, waist, right thigh, and popliteal fossa in a unilateral linear pattern over ten years. Skin biopsy revealed dilated follicular ostia with orthokeratotic hyperkeratosis, columns of parakeratosis, cornoid flagellation, epidermolytic hyperkeratosis, and mild acanthosis on its wall.

ABSTRACT

Novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) as a potential health risk factor continues to spread worldwide. Although common symptoms include headache and respiratory symptoms, some studies have suggested that COVID-19 may cause coagulation disorders and thrombolytic events, disrupt blood flow to the visceral organs, and cause some complications such as mesenteric ischemia. The authors reported four cases of acute mesenteric ischemia associated with COVID-19 confirmed in patients hospitalized in Imam Reza Hospital (a COVID-19 referral center in Mashhad University of Medical Sciences, Mashhad, Iran). The authors described the pathological findings that may be associated with this infection. The authors collected clinical data, imaging, microscopic, and operative findings of four patients with severe COVID-19 infection and evidence of intestinal necrosis. These four cases of severe COVID-19 pneumonia simultaneously showed intestinal necrosis during the infection process, indicating a relationship between coronavirus and mesenteric vascular events. Physicians should be aware of thrombosis symptoms in the digestive system in patients with severe COVID-19.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Gut-brain axis (GBA) is very important in creation and modulation of gastrointestinal problems. Aloe vera gel has gastroprotective properties. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of aqueous extract of Aloe vera leaves on the gastric acid secretion and brain and intestinal water content following acetic acid gastric ulcer induction. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Gastric ulcer was induced by injection of 20% acetic acid into the subserosal layer in male rats. Rats were randomly assigned into three groups: intact group, gastric ulcer group and Aloe vera group (treatment with Aloe vera following gastric ulcer induction). The acid levels and brain and intestinal water content of each sample were measured eight days after the gastric ulcer induction. RESULTS: Gastric acid levels were significantly decreased in Aloe vera group when compared with gastric ulcer group (p<0.05). However, there were no differences in acid output between gastric ulcer and Aloe vera groups with intact group. After Aloe vera administration, the amount of brain water content had no difference with intact and gastric ulcer groups (p<0.05). The duodenal water content in Aloe vera group was significantly reduced compared with intact group (p<0.05) but gastric ulcer group had no significant difference with intact and Aloe vera group. CONCLUSIONS: The administration of Aloe vera has an inhibitory effect on the gastric acid output.
