Oral manifestations in a renal osteodystrophy patient - a case report with review of literature.

Renal Osteodystrophy (ROD) is a common complication of chronic renal disease (CRD) and is the part of a broad spectrum of disorders of mineral metabolism that occurs in the clinical setting. It occurs early in the course of chronic renal failure and progresses as the kidney function deteriorates. It is an osseous alteration believed to arise from increased parathyroid function associated with inappropriate calcium, phosphorus and vitamin D metabolism. Involvement of the jaws is common and radiographic alterations are often one of the earliest signs of chronic renal failure. Herein, reporting a case of Chronic Renal Failure (Bilateral Grade I Neuropathy) with ROD presenting oral manifestations in an 11-year -old male child.

Unicystic ameloblastoma of the mandible- report of two cases with review of literature.

Ameloblastoma is classified into solid/multicystic, extraosseous/peripheral, desmoplastic and unicystic types based on the clinical appearance by WHO (2003). Unicystic ameloblastoma is the 2(nd) and far less frequent growth pattern seen in intra-osseous ameloblastoma. It tends to occur in younger population and constitutes approximately 6% of ameloblastomas with no sexual or racial predilection. Here in, reporting 2 cases of cystic ameloblastoma in the mandible, in varying age groups.

Autism Disorder (AD): An Updated Review for Paediatric Dentists.

Over the past two decades, there has been an explosion of interest in Autism Disorder (AD). Knowledge and awareness on the condition has grown exponentially at all levels among the general public, parents, health professionals, the research community and more recently, at parliamentary level. The world has begun to recognize the scope of this problem and act internationally and locally to improve the lives of the growing number of individuals and families affected by this devastating disorder. This article reviews the dental literature since 1969 and it summarizes characteristics of patients with AD, oral health status and dental management of patients with AD.

The role of colour Doppler ultrasonography in the diagnosis of fascial space infections - a cross sectional study.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES: (1) To evaluate the role of ultrasonography with colour Doppler in the diagnosis of fascial space infections, (2) To determine the nature, size and extent of the odontogenic infections which involve the primary and secondary fascial spaces of the maxilla and the mandible (3) To evaluate the sensitivity of ultrasonography in determining whether the inflammatory process is in a stage of cellulitis or abscess and to thus determine the appropriate time for a surgical intervention during the course of the infection and to correlate the clinical and radiographic findings with the ultrasonographic findings and (4) to determine the treatment plan. METHODOLOGY: Thirty four patients with odontogenic infections which involved the superficial and the deep fascial spaces of the head and neck were subjected to ultrasonographic examinations over the suspected area in the transverse and axial directions to determine the stage of the infection, its anatomic location and the treatment plan. RESULTS: Ultrasonography showed 95.7% sensitivity and 100% specificity as compared to the clinical and radiographic diagnoses and it proved to be an effective investigation modality in the diagnosis of fascial space infections.
