ABSTRACT

In this work, composite filaments in the form of sticks and 3D-printed scaffolds were investigated as a future component of an osteochondral implant. The first part of the work focused on the development of a filament modified with bioglass (BG) and Zn-doped BG obtained by injection molding. The main outcome was the manufacture of bioactive, strong, and flexible filament sticks of the required length, diameter, and properties. Then, sticks were used for scaffold production. We investigated the effect of bioglass addition on the samples mechanical and biological properties. The samples were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy, optical microscopy, infrared spectroscopy, and microtomography. The effect of bioglass addition on changes in the SBF mineralization process and cell morphology was evaluated. The presence of a spatial microstructure within the scaffolds affects their mechanical properties by reducing them. The tensile strength of the scaffolds compared to filaments was lower by 58-61%. In vitro mineralization experiments showed that apatite formed on scaffolds modified with BG after 7 days of immersion in SBF. Scaffold with Zn-doped BG showed a retarded apatite formation. Innovative 3D-printing filaments containing bioglasses have been successfully applied to print bioactive scaffolds with the surface suitable for cell attachment and proliferation.

ABSTRACT

Trend analysis is one of the most powerful techniques for monitoring the technical condition of individual mechanical components of rotating machinery. It is based on extraction of characteristic signal components according to kinetostatic configuration of the machine drivetrain. It has been used for decades and is well-understood. However, classical trend analysis is based on some assumptions which have resulted from the limited computational power of embedded systems years ago. This paper tries to answer a question on whether the assumption of a single signal resampling path for calculation of signal components generated by shafts with rational transmission ratio is valid. The study was conducted using an extensive imbalance test on a medium-power test rig. The paper originally demonstrates that application of an advanced resampling algorithm does not significantly influence the overall trend increase, but it is of utmost importance when trend variance is of interest.

ABSTRACT

Condition monitoring is an indispensable element related to the operation of rotating machinery. In this article, the monitoring system for the parallel gearbox was proposed. The novelty detection approach is used to develop the condition assessment support system, which requires data collection for a healthy structure. The measured signals were processed to extract quantitative indicators sensitive to the type of damage occurring in this type of structure. The indicator's values were used for the development of four different novelty detection algorithms. Presented novelty detection models operate on three principles: feature space distance, probability distribution, and input reconstruction. One of the distance-based models is adaptive, adjusting to new data flowing in the form of a stream. The authors test the developed algorithms on experimental and simulation data with a similar distribution, using the training set consisting mainly of samples generated by the simulator. Presented in the article results demonstrate the effectiveness of the trained models on both data sets.

ABSTRACT

Currently, trust is one of the key factors that ensures the acceptable mechanisms of economic and social relationships. It is not only an element of correct communication, but also a factor in inter-organizational bonds and a source of social dialogue. Trust has become a factor in the creation of value, as well as a key component of the conceptualization and operationalization of business models. It has revealed many problems at the strategic level, in the water sector in particular. From this perspective, trust is a major factor of strategies, models, and business processes which are currently being built. New types of business models that emerge have also started to include trust as part of their configuration. This is the case in the construction and implementation of social business models. A social business model can be understood as a business model whose factors that stimulate development include social aspects expressed in balancing economic, environmental, and social issues with the involvement of communities and their dynamic communication focused on the selected attributes of business models that stimulate growth and that are conducive to achieving success, expressed by economic and/or social profit. The satisfaction of stakeholders with such a solution is another condition for embedding this solution in the sphere of the social economy. In this approach, trust, which stimulates the growth of social and economic value in the component structure of the social business model, becomes particularly important. The aim of the paper is to present the place and role of trust as a key component of social business models. The scope of the paper includes research into public water sector industry companies located in the Province of Silesia and their social business models, with a focus on defining the position of trust among other attributes of these business models. The authors put forward a hypothesis that trust is a crucial component of the social business models of water supply companies that operate at the intersection of the market and social economy. Trust also helps companies from the water supply sector achieve both social and economic effects. It also becomes a source of reverse market polarization, where the value of a social business model materializes to create social and environmental effects without detriment to the economic effects.
