ABSTRACT

For many years the increasing number of patients who indulge different accidents and injuries during executing buildings works was observed. The medical help offered to those patients - the most often surgical or orthopedic - in form of surgical debridement of wound should enable its complete healing. However in many cases the healing process of wounds does not run in correct way and chronic wounds come into being, which need complex treatment. Contemporary physical medicine systematically broadens the healing possibilities by introducing to clinical practice new procedures and the therapeutic devices which in many cases accelerate the healing processes of chronic wounds. It this paper the results of the treatment of 44-years old man who experienced the injury of right palm - the cut of two finger tips by the angle grinder, were presented. In the treatment two physical methods were applied: magnetostimulation and local hyperbaric oxygen therapy, with good results resulting in complete healing of wounds, enabling the independent patient's existence, return to professional activity and improvement of quality of his life (Quality of Life).

ABSTRACT

The constipations belong to the most frequent intestinal dyspepsia ailments in the industrialized populations. Alimentary canal answers for the correct admission and digesting foods, their absorption and dismissing. In case of disorders relating dismissing the names a constipation, discomfort in everyday life constrain ill's to modification style of life and nourishing, as well as the frequent contact with a doctor or the specialist medical care. The etiology of constipations stool is multifactorial, what requires multidirectional therapeutic conduction. The name of constipation is dismissing of stool defines (seldom than 3 days), be unusually the made difficult of act defecation connected with the presence sale hard and compact stool. Not infrequently the dismissing of incomplete evacuation lace-up by ill with feeling of dysfunction. The constipations most often step out in relationship with excessive contractibility of intestine - spastic constipations, be with reason of excessive atony of intestine - atonic constipations where sale weak peristalsis is the creature of constipations. In this work was the selected non - pharmacological methods in the treatment of constipation with regard a physiotherapeutic conduct introduced.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: Tics disorders is frequent pathological syndrome, particularly typical for children's age. The symptoms of this disease are differential, and their intensification individualized, which makes difficult unique recognition. Tics disorders concern the most often the muscles of face, head, upper limbs and trunk. MATERIAL AND METHODS: The study group consisted of 16 patients (11 boys and 5 girls) with tics complex disorders about unknown etiology particularly relating of face and upper limbs muscles. In the treatment were the interventions with use a magnetotherapy and magnetostimulation applied. The procedures were ones daily by 3 weeks in two series executed. It author's pool was the frequency of occurrence tics disorders as well as the proportional opinion of effectiveness conducted treatment estimated. RESULTS: After 10 weeks in 14 patients was the decrease of occurrence frequency involuntary movements observed, in proportional scale about 75%. The results of subjective opinion of mood showed, that decrease the frequency tics disorders had in all children the direct shift on improvement their mood, and also satisfaction in their parents. CONCLUSIONS: The use of variable magnetic fields influenced on decrease the occurrence frequency tics disorders, and also on improvement quality of life the treated patients.

ABSTRACT

UNLABELLED: The profitable influence of sauna bathing interventions on functional human organism has been known for many years. However, range of argumentation wakes up the influence of sauna bathing procedures on heart action. This questions concerns the frequency of heart action, minute heart volume as well as the parameters of arterial blood pressure. AIM: The aim of the study was to evaluate a changes of some cardiac parameters after sauna bathing. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study group was changes of physiological parameters pulse, arterial blood pressure as well as the temperature of body at 44 young the healthy persons (22 men and 22 women) in age 20-25 years (the average age 22,3±1,2 years) executed. None of studied persons was ill in past on illness of respiratory and circulation system arrangement the single bathing intervention were subjected. The temperature in cabin of sauna on level 3 bench carried out 110°C and moisture achieved 15% maximally. Applied the temperature of water refreshing the body near use the shower 16-18°C carried out. According with methodology of bath in sauna near next entry to cabin of sauna studied it was commanded was to occupy on laid bench the place higher in relation to floor of sauna. Before and after intervention of sauna bathing was at all studied the measurement of arterial blood pressure, frequency of pulse as well as the temperature of body was executed. It the measurements of above mentioned parameters were after end of bath in chamber of sauna directly, and then after chilling body and 20-one-minute rest beginning. RESULTS: The statistical significant characteristic growth of value of arterial blood pressure after single cycle of bathing sauna at all studied persons was showed (cramp and diastolic) as well as the frequency of pulse and the temperature the whole body, which however he did not cross the border of physiological norms (the p<0,05), near what these higher values of all analyzed parameters be comprised in borders of physiological norms for human organism. After chilling of body and 20 minutes did not differ one-minute rest of values all of estimated parameters from exit values significant. CONCLUSIONS: The single intervention in sauna causes the growth of value of arterial blood pressure, the frequency of pulse and the temperature of young body healthy persons, be comprising in borders of physiological norms for human organism near what these higher values of all they be comprised in borders of physiological norms the analyzed parameters for human organism.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Potential exposure of medical students to infectious material and the lack of specific prevention measures could contribute to an increased risk of HCV infection in this group. OBJECTIVE: To find out if the occurrence of HCV antibodies is more frequent in medical students than in non-medical students and to determine risk factors for HCV antibodies in students. METHODS: A cross-sectional study performed in 2003-2004 included 566 medical students (Medical University, Katowice) and 517 students of non-medical faculties (University, Katowice). HCV antibodies were determined using the 3rd generation EIA test, in doubtful cases a Western-blot INNO-LIA-HCV confirmation test was applied. Risk factors were identified based on questionnaire derived data. Between-group difference in the prevalence of positive anti-HCV tests was evaluated by means of ch2 test and candidates for risk factors were evaluated according to logistic odds ratios. RESULTS: Prevalence of HCV antibodies was statistically insignificantly lower in medical students (1.4%) than that in non-medical students (1.9%). In the group of 1068 subjects with no history of ever-diagnosed viral hepatitis the respective figures were 1.4% and 1.7%. In this group the presence of the positive anti-HCV tests was associated with dermal cosmetic interventions in the past (logOR=4.85), percutaneous medical interventions (excluding surgery) (logOR=3.18) and individual history of blood transfusion (logOR=1.71). However, the results were not statistically significant. CONCLUSIONS: Medical students at the Medical University in Katowice, Poland are not at increased risk of HCV infection. The findings suggest an important role of cosmetic and percutaneous medical interventions, and blood transfusion as risk factors for HCV infection.

ABSTRACT

An increased interest in effects of low temperatures on human organisms has been observed during last years. Low temperatures have been applied in cryotherapy and cryosurgery. In our article we show the influence of low temperatures on different physiological mechanisms and the possibility of their application in the therapy.

ABSTRACT

Pseudomyxoma peritonei is a rare disease leading to the accumulation of gelatinous masses in peritoneal cavity, usually secondary to neoplasmatic process of appendix or ovary. The authors describe a case report of 50 years old man with pseudomyxoma peritonei. Literature based discussion on prognostic difficulties and operative therapy perspectives in patients with this disease is presented.
