ABSTRACT

Angiomyomas of the oral cavity are rare benign vascular neoplasms. In particular, the congenital form has not been reported before in the English language literature. We present a congenital angiomyoma of the tongue that was found on the posterior middle of the tongue in an infant. On MRI, the mass showed an isointense signal to muscle on the T1 weighted image and a slightly hyperintense signal on the T2 weighted image. Immunohistochemically, tumour cells were positive to desmin and smooth muscle actin, but negative to vimentin and S100. The treatment was surgical excision and no recurrence was found during the 26 month follow-up period.

ABSTRACT

A wearable electrocardiogram(ECG) device using conductive fabric sensor was compared with traditional Ag-AgCl electrode ECG device. The ECG signals were measured under existence of motion artifacts on variable running speed using treadmill to verify that wearable device can substitute traditional ECG device. A signal to noise ratio (SNR) and RR interval were compared between the two devices. The SNR of wearable device was similar or higher than that of clinical device and difference of RR interval was 2ms. The results show that the wearable ECG device using conductive fabric sensor can make similar performance with ECG device using Ag-AgCl electrode even under motion artifacts.

ABSTRACT

Novel algorithm and real-time ambulatory monitoring system for fall detection in elderly people is described. Our system is comprised of accelerometer, tilt sensor and gyroscope. For real-time monitoring, we used Bluetooth. Accelerometer measures kinetic force, tilt sensor and gyroscope estimates body posture. Also, we suggested algorithm using signals which obtained from the system attached to the chest for fall detection. To evaluate our system and algorithm, we experimented on three people aged over 26 years. The experiment of four cases such as forward fall, backward fall, side fall and sit-stand was repeated ten times and the experiment in daily life activity was performed one time to each subject. These experiments showed that our system and algorithm could distinguish between falling and daily life activity. Moreover, the accuracy of fall detection is 96.7%. Our system is especially adapted for long-time and real-time ambulatory monitoring of elderly people in emergency situation.

ABSTRACT

Though leiomyosarcoma usually occurs in the gastrointestinal tract and uterus, it rarely occurs in the wall of large veins and arteries. We present a case of primary leiomyosarcoma arising in the great saphenous vein of the left inner thigh and spreading for some extent along the vein in a 54 year old female. Diagnosis was confirmed by desmin stain and electron microscopy. Postoperative course was fine. This is the first report of this in Korean literature.
