ABSTRACT

In a pilot study at 14 patients with coronary heart disease (CHD) and left-ventricular dysfunction (left ventricular enddiastolic volume [LVEDV] > or = 100 ml), who actively participated in an ambulatory cardiac sports group, left ventricular endsystolic volume (LVESV), LVEDV and duration of exercise were analyzed by echocardiographic and ergometric tests. An initial workup was followed by a 4 week double blind treatment phase, in which magnesium orotate 3 x 1 g or placebo was given additionally to medication taken prior to the study. At the end of this phase a concluding workup was performed. Magnesium orotate decreased significantly (p = 0.016) LVESV, increased significantly (p = 0.035) EF, decreased in tendency (p = 0.054) LVEDV and increased significantly (p = 0.011) exercise duration. The study gives references to favourable effects of oral magnesium orotate to left ventricular function and exercise tolerance in patients with CHD.

ABSTRACT

Plasminogen activator contains equimolar proportions of streptokinase and human plasminogen, and as proactivator-streptokinase complex it has activator properties. In nine patients with recent venous thromboses of the upper or lower limbs plasminogen activator treatment achieved complete recanalisation in 14 of 27 veins occluded by thrombosis and partially in six. Clotting tests indicated that activator treatment can be better controlled than streptokinase treatment.

ABSTRACT

The study provides information on 22 patients in whom a total of 24 transluminal recanalization procedures were carried out because of obliterations of the A. femoralis superficialis. In addition to 6 primary failures, there were 7 occlusions within 12 hours to 6 months after treatment. Eleven patients were examined 18 to 36 months after surgery. Of these only one patient had a new occlusion. The results are compared with those of other study groups. Morphologic vascular changes are considered to be the cause of the relatively high number of primary failures. The significance of prophylaxis with anticoagulants is pointed out.

ABSTRACT

The syndrome of familial lymphedema (type Meige) with distichiasis was observed in father and son. The association with uvula bifida and submucous cleft to the palate is described for the first time.
