ABSTRACT

Resumen Introducción: Varias presiones antrópicas sufren los ecosistemas acuáticos del piedemonte llanero en Colombia. La respuesta a estresores ambientales aún se desconoce en organismos bioindicadores como Leptohyphidae. Objetivo: Determinar la diversidad de ninfas de Leptohyphidae del río Quenane-Quenanito, en dos periodos hidrológicos contrastantes y su relación con algunas variables fisicoquímicas. Métodos: En diciembre (2014) y febrero (2015) se recolectaron organismos con red Surber en seis estaciones a lo largo del río. Se analizó la diversidad alfa y beta y se aplicó análisis de redundancia y modelos lineales generalizados con el fin de establecer la relación entre los taxones y las variables ambientales. Resultados: Se identificaron 369 organismos pertenecientes a cuatro géneros (Amanahyphes, Traverhyphes, Tricorythopsis y Tricorythodes), dos especies y ocho morfoespecies. Se reporta por primera vez para el departamento del Meta Amanahyphes saguassu. Se registró la mayor diversidad de ninfas en la transición a la sequía y la mayor abundancia en sequía. La diversidad beta señaló que la configuración del ensamblaje cambia a nivel espacial y temporal. Conclusiones: Los organismos de Leptohyphidae prefieren hábitats de corrientes, particularmente en el periodo de sequía, donde hallan alimento (hojarasca, detritos) y refugio para establecerse exitosamente; actividades antrópicas como la urbanización afectan notablemente la diversidad. La alta diversidad registrada en este pequeño río de piedemonte llanero refleja la necesidad de incrementar este tipo de trabajos y esfuerzos de recolección de material de estudio en la región.


Abstract Introduction: Various anthropic pressures affect the aquatic ecosystems of the foothills of Colombia. The response to environmental stressors is still unknown in bioindicator organisms such as Leptohyphidae. Objective: To determine the diversity of Leptohyphidae nymphs of the Quenane-Quenanito river, in two contrasting hydrological periods and its relationship with some physicochemical variables. Methods: In December (2014) and February (2015), organisms were collected with a Surber net at six stations along the current. Alpha and beta diversity was analyzed and redundancy analysis and generalized linear model were applied to establish the relationship between taxa and environmental variables. Results: Were identified 369 organisms belonging to four genera (Amanahyphes, Traverhyphes, Tricorythopsis, and Tricorythodes), two species, and eight morphospecies. Amanahyphes saguassu is reported for the first time for the Meta department. High diversity of Leptohyphidae nymphs was recorded in the transition to drought season and greater abundance in drought. Beta diversity indicated that the configuration of the assemblage changes spatially and temporally. Conclusions: Leptohyphidae organisms prefer fast habitats, particularly in the dry period where they find food (leaf litter, detritus) and shelter to establish themselves successfully; anthropic activities such as urbanization notably affect diversity. The high diversity recorded in this small river in the foothills of the plains reflects the need to increase this type of works and collection efforts of study material in the region.

ABSTRACT

Yogurt, a milk-derived product, is susceptible to mycotoxin contamination. While various methods have been developed for the analysis of dairy products, only a few have been specifically validated for yogurt. In addition, these methods are primarily focus on detecting aflatoxins and zearalenone. This study aimed to conduct a preliminary investigation into the presence of regulated, emerging, and modified mycotoxins in natural and oat yogurts available in the Spanish market. For this, a QuEChERS-based extraction method was optimized and then validated to detect and quantify 32 mycotoxins using ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS). The method was in-house validated for the analysis of natural and oat yogurt in terms of linearity, matrix effect, sensitivity, accuracy, and precision. Satisfactory performance characteristics were achieved; for most of the analytes, LOQs were lower than 2 ng/g, and recoveries ranged from 60 to 110% with a precision, expressed as the relative standard deviation of the recovery, lower than 15%. Subsequently, the validated method was applied to analyze commercial yogurt samples, revealing a notable incidence of beauvericin and enniatins, with some analogues found in up to 100% of the samples. Alternariol methyl ether was also frequently found, appearing in 50% of the samples. Additionally, the study identified regulated toxins such as fumonisins, ochratoxin A , and HT-2 toxin. These results provide new incidence data in yogurt, raising concerns about potential health risks for consumers.

ABSTRACT

In this work, we have verified how non-destructive ultrasonic evaluation allows for acoustically characterizing different varieties of wine. For this, a 3.5 MHz transducer has been used by means of an immersion technique in pulse-echo mode. The tests were performed at various temperatures in the range 14-18 °C. The evaluation has been carried out studying, on the one hand, conventional analysis parameters (velocity and attenuation) and, on the other, less conventional parameters (frequency components). The experimental study comprised two stages. In the first, the feasibility of the study was checked by inspecting twelve samples belonging to six varieties of red and white wine. The results showed clearly higher ultrasonic propagation velocity values in the red wine samples. In the second, nine samples of different monovarietal wine varieties (Grenache, Tempranillo and Cabernet Sauvignon) were analyzed. The results show how ultrasonic velocity makes it possible to unequivocally classify the grape variety used in winemaking with the Cabernet Sauvignon variety having the highest values and the Grenache the lowest. In addition, the wines of the Tempranillo variety are those that present higher values of the attenuation coefficient, and those from the Grenache variety transmit higher frequency waves.

ABSTRACT

The sol-gel route was used to synthesize a series of compounds of the system Bi0.8Ba0.10Pr0.10Fe1-x Cr x O3 within the 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.15 compositional range. To explore the impact of Cr3+ ion substitution on the structural, dielectric, optical, and magnetic properties, we introduced varying concentrations of Cr3+ while maintaining a fixed 10% atomic concentration of each Ba2+ and Pr2+ in BiFeO3. X-ray diffraction analysis revealed a structural phase transition from rhombohedral (R3c) for an undoped (i.e., without Cr) sample to two coexisting phases, i.e., a mix of rhombohedral and orthorhombic (Pbnm) phases for the Cr-doped samples. Cr3+ doping significantly changes the band gap energy from 1.84 eV (x = 0.0) to 1.93 eV (x = 0.15), which makes this material suitable for photovoltaic applications. Furthermore, each sample exhibited ferromagnetic behavior due to the disruption of the spiral spin structures and adjustments in superexchange interactions, attributed to modifications in the Fe-O and Fe-O-Fe bond lengths. A reduction in magnetization is observed at higher Cr concentrations that can be ascribed to the dilution of magnetic moments due to the increase of the orthorhombic phase percentage and the introduction of nonmagnetic Cr3+ ions. Our results show that Cr doping in the Bi0.8Ba0.10Pr0.10FeO3 system induces enhanced multiferroic properties at room temperature.

ABSTRACT

Overexpression of the agouti-signalling protein (asip1), an endogenous melanocortin antagonist, under the control of a constitutive promoter in zebrafish [Tg(Xla.Eef1a1:Cau.Asip1]iim4] (asip1-Tg) increases food intake by reducing sensitivity of the central satiety systems and abolish circadian activity rhythms. The phenotype also shows increased linear growth and body weight, yet no enhanced aggressiveness in dyadic fights is observed. In fact, asip1-Tg animals choose to flee to safer areas rather than face a potential threat thus suggesting a potential anxiety-like behaviour (ALB). Standard behavioural tests, i.e. the open field test (OFT), the novel object test (NOT) and the novel tank dive test (NTDT) were used to investigate thigmotaxis and ALB in male and female zebrafish. Results showed that the asip1-Tg strain exhibited severe ALB in every test, mainly characterised by pronounced freezing behaviour and increased linear and angular swimming velocities. asip1-Tg animals exhibited low central serotonin (5HT) and dopamine (DA) levels and high turnover rates, thus suggesting that central monoaminergic pathways might mediate melanocortin antagonist-induced ALB. Accordingly, the treatment of asip1-Tg animals with fluoxetine, a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI), reversed the ALB phenotype in NTDT as well as 5-HT turnover. Genomic and anatomical data further supported neuronal interaction between melanocortinergic and serotonergic systems. These results suggest that inhibition of the melanocortin system by ubiquitous overexpression of endogenous antagonist has an anxiogenic effect mediated by serotonergic transmission.Significance statement In this paper, we show that inhibition of the melanocortin system by ubiquitous overexpression of endogenous antagonists has a potent anxiogenic effect mediated by serotonergic transmission in zebrafish. asip1-overexpressing fish (asip1-Tg) also exhibit a severe disruption of the central satiety system, leading to increased feed intake and abolishing circadian locomotor activity patterns. The melanocortin system plays a key role in the control of hunger, and data suggest that the anxiety-like behaviour in asip1-Tg may be related to the feeding anxiety induced by negative energy balance states, which promote constant foraging and thus disrupt activity rhythms. This makes asip1-Tg animals an excellent model to study dieting-induced anxiety, one of the major causes of dieting failure.

BACKGROUND: The EU Patient-cEntric clinicAl tRial pLatforms (EU-PEARL) project (IMI2-853966) aimed to develop tools to establish integrated research platforms (IRP) for conducting adaptive-design trials in various diseases, including metabolic-dysfunction associated steatohepatitis (MASH). One essential component of a successful MASH IRP is a robust and reliable Clinical Research Network (CRN). Herein, we outline the required elements and anticipated steps to set-up such a CRN. METHODS: We identified European clinical research sites that could potentially serve as the foundation for MASH IRP and a CRN. A survey was sent to sites to assess their interest in joining a CRN, their familiarity with platform trials, and their capacity to participate in a future MASH IRP. RESULTS: A total of 141 investigators were invited to participate in the survey, and 40% responded. More than half of the answers (52%) identify MASH with advanced fibrosis (F3-4) as the subpopulation with the greatest unmet need. Regarding the difficulty in identifying candidates for trials, 65% find it is moderately difficult and 30% very difficult. Most respondents (94%) believe that a platform trial could offer substantial benefits to patients. Nearly all researchers express interest in participating in a platform trial (78%), with 22% indicating their interest would be contingent on initial industry funding. CONCLUSION: While preliminary, our findings on responding sites are encouraging for the potential establishment of a CRN for a MASH IRP. However, funding schemes and sustainability strategies to provide proof-of-platform in MASH seem key in the short-term scenario.


Metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) occurs when the liver becomes damaged due to the build up of fat, which is often related to obesity and diabetes. There is a lack of effective drug treatments for MASH, so strategies to strengthen clinical research in this area are needed. Here, we survey key European experts on MASH to assess their interest in joining a network of MASH researchers and their interest in participating in a new type of clinical trial called a platform trial, where multiple drugs can be tested simultaneously. Researchers largely agree that these are promising approaches to boost drug development in the field, although have concerns regarding funding and sustainability strategies. Our findings may inform the creation of a network of MASH researchers capable of running a platform trial, which in turn may speed up research into treatments for MASH.

ABSTRACT

Natural toxins, such as mycotoxins and cyanotoxins, can contaminate food and feed, leading to toxicity in humans and animals. This study focused on using nine magnetic nanostructured agents to remove the main types of toxins. Initially, the efficacy of these materials was evaluated in water solutions, revealing that composites with sizes below 3 mm, containing magnetite, activated carbon, esterified pectin, and sodium alginate, removed up to 90% of mycotoxins and cyanotoxins with an adsorption of 873 ng/g. The application of the nanostructures was then assessed in beer, milk, Distillers Dried Grains with Solubles and water contaminated with cyanobacteria. The presence of matrix slightly decreases the adsorption capacity for some toxins. The maximum toxin removal capacity was calculated with cyanotoxins, composites achieved a removal of up to 0.12 mg/g, while nanocomposites (15 µm) reached 36.6 mg/g. Therefore, these findings point out the potential for using nanotechnology in addressing natural toxins contamination.

Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are preeminent carriers of biomarkers and have become the subject of intense biomedical research for medical diagnostics using biosensors. To create effective EV-based immunoassays, it is imperative to develop surface chemistry approaches with optimal EV detection targeting transmembrane protein biomarkers that are not affected by cell-to-cell variability. Here, we developed a series of immunoassays for the detection of EVs derived from mouse monocyte cells using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) biosensors. We chemically immobilized antibodies onto mixed self-assembled monolayers of oligo ethylene glycol (OEG) alkanethiolates with carboxylic and hydroxylic terminal groups. The effects of antibody clonality (monoclonal vs polyclonal) and antibody surface coverage in targeting EVs via CD81 tetraspanins were investigated. We determined binding kinetic parameters, establishing trends from steric hindrance effects and epitope recognition properties of antibodies. Our results indicate that a 40% surface coverage of polyclonal antibodies covalently linked onto a mixed SAM with 10% of terminated -COOH groups yields a promising approach for EV detection with a linear range of 1.9 × 108-1.9 × 109 EVs/mL and a limit of detection of 5.9 × 106 EVs/mL. This optimal immunoassay exhibits a 1.92 nM equilibrium dissociation constant for bound EVs, suggesting a high binding affinity when CD81 is targeted. Our study provides important insights into surface chemistry development for EV detection targeted via transmembrane protein biomarkers using antibodies, which has promising applications for disease diagnostics.

ABSTRACT

Ionic liquids (ILs) and deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have tremendous potential for reactive capture and conversion (RCC) of CO2 due to their wide electrochemical stability window, low volatility, and high CO2 solubility. There is environmental and economic interest in the direct utilization of the captured CO2 using electrified and modular processes that forgo the thermal- or pressure-swing regeneration steps to concentrate CO2, eliminating the need to compress, transport, or store the gas. The conventional electrochemical conversion of CO2 with aqueous electrolytes presents limited CO2 solubility and high energy requirement to achieve industrially relevant products. Additionally, aqueous systems have competitive hydrogen evolution. In the past decade, there has been significant progress toward the design of ILs and DESs, and their composites to separate CO2 from dilute streams. In parallel, but not necessarily in synergy, there have been studies focused on a few select ILs and DESs for electrochemical reduction of CO2, often diluting them with aqueous or non-aqueous solvents. The resulting electrode-electrolyte interfaces present a complex speciation for RCC. In this review, we describe how the ILs and DESs are tuned for RCC and specifically address the CO2 chemisorption and electroreduction mechanisms. Critical bulk and interfacial properties of ILs and DESs are discussed in the context of RCC, and the potential of these electrolytes are presented through a techno-economic evaluation.

ABSTRACT

A study on the reactivity of rigid 1-azadienes derived from methylene γ-lactams is reported. Through the functionalization of 1-amino α,ß-unsaturated γ-lactam derivatives, easily available from a multicomponent reaction of amines, aldehydes, and pyruvates, it is possible to in situ generate rigid 1-azadienes locked by a γ-lactam core. The 4π-electron system of those rigid 1-azadienes can behave as both diene and dienophile species through a spontaneous cyclodimerization reaction or exclusively as dienes or dienophiles if they are trapped with imines or cyclopentadiene, respectively. The use of chiral rigid 1-azadienes as dienophiles in the cycloaddition reaction with cyclopentadiene leads to the formation of spiro-γ-lactams bearing four stereogenic centers in a highly stereospecific manner, reporting the first example of the use of methylene-γ-lactams in the synthesis of spirocycles.

ABSTRACT

Pancreatic cancer is one of the deadliest cancers worldwide, mainly due to late diagnosis. Therefore, there is an urgent need for novel diagnostic approaches to identify the disease as early as possible. We have developed a diagnostic assay for pancreatic cancer based on the detection of naturally occurring tumor associated autoantibodies against Mucin-1 (MUC1) using engineered glycopeptides on nanoparticle probes. We used a structure-guided approach to develop unnatural glycopeptides as model antigens for tumor-associated MUC1. We designed a collection of 13 glycopeptides to bind either SM3 or 5E5, two monoclonal antibodies with distinct epitopes known to recognize tumor associated MUC1. Glycopeptide binding to SM3 or 5E5 was confirmed by surface plasmon resonance and rationalized by molecular dynamics simulations. These model antigens were conjugated to gold nanoparticles and used in a dot-blot assay to detect autoantibodies in serum samples from pancreatic cancer patients and healthy volunteers. Nanoparticle probes with glycopeptides displaying the SM3 epitope did not have diagnostic potential. Instead, nanoparticle probes displaying glycopeptides with high affinity for 5E5 could discriminate between cancer patients and healthy controls. Remarkably, the best-discriminating probes show significantly better true and false positive rates than the current clinical biomarkers CA19-9 and carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA).

Despite extensive global research into genetic predisposition for severe COVID-19, knowledge on the role of rare host genetic variants and their relation to other risk factors remains limited. Here, 52 genes with prior etiological evidence were sequenced in 1,772 severe COVID-19 cases and 5,347 population-based controls from Spain/Italy. Rare deleterious TLR7 variants were present in 2.4% of young (<60 years) cases with no reported clinical risk factors (n=378), compared to 0.24% of controls (odds ratio (OR)=12.3, p=1.27x10-10). Incorporation of the results of either functional assays or protein modeling led to a pronounced increase in effect size (ORmax=46.5, p=1.74x10-15). Association signals for X-chromosomal TLR7 were also detected in the female-only subgroup, suggesting the existence of additional mechanisms beyond X-linked recessive inheritance in males. Additionally, supporting evidence was generated for a contribution to severe COVID-19 of the previously implicated genes IFNAR2, IFIH1 and TBK1. Our results refine the genetic contribution of rare TLR7 variants to severe COVID-19, and strengthen evidence for the etiological relevance of genes in the interferon signaling pathway.

The effect of sustainable agricultural practices, such as mulching or the application of straw residues as an organic amendment, on the degradation, dissipation and persistence in the soil of S-metolachlor (SMOC), foramsulfuron (FORAM) and thiencarbazone-methyl (TCM) is still unclear. The objective here was to conduct a laboratory experiment to evaluate the impact of milled wheat straw (WS) simulating its individual use as mulch or applied as an organic amendment to two agricultural soils: unamended and WS-amended soils on the degradation kinetics of the herbicides SMOC, FORAM and TCM, and on the formation of their major metabolites at two incubation temperatures (14 °C and 24 °C). The degradation rate of SMOC on WS was 6.9-16.7 times faster than that observed for FORAM and TCM at both temperatures. The half-life (DT50) values were 1.1-10.6 times lower for FORAM than for SMOC and TCM in the unamended and WS-amended soils at 14 °C and 24 °C. The application of WS to soils increased the DT50 values from 1.1 to 11.2 times for all the herbicides at both incubation temperatures due to their higher adsorption and lower bioavailability. The herbicides recorded a faster degradation at 24 °C (1.2-3.9 times) than at 14 °C, according to Q10 values >1. SMOC metabolites were more persistent in WS-amended soils than in unamended ones, in agreement with the DT50 values recorded for the parent compound. The results indicate that the effect of the mulch applied to soils as an organic amendment was different depending on the herbicide and incubation temperature. The outcomes of this research can give key suggestions for reducing the effects of residual herbicides following sustainable agricultural practices by avoiding soil and groundwater contamination, which is one of the challenges involved in the application of chemical inputs.

Currently, there are few pharmacotherapy options for clinicians treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), and antidepressants are usually the medication of choice. This meta-analysis aimed to review the efficacy of antidepressants in the acute treatment of PTSD in adults while investigating the contribution of study design and placebo response to the findings of these studies. Randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trials that compared antidepressants with placebo for acute treatment of PTSD were selected. Standardized mean difference (SMD) in change in Clinician-Administered PTSD Scale scores were pooled after examining for heterogeneity. A random-effects meta-analysis was performed. Twenty-nine antidepressant-placebo comparisons, involving 4575 subjects, were analyzed. The SMD among all studies was 0.25, a small to medium effect size, lower than that in studies of antidepressants in adult major depressive disorder. The SMDs for low and high mean placebo responses, were 0.27 and 0.22, respectively. The overall SMD for paroxetine studies was in the moderate range (0.43) and that for sertraline studies was in the small range (0.12). Our findings suggest that antidepressants have modest efficacy in alleviating PTSD symptoms. Patient-level meta-analyses are required to further explore the potential clinical relevance of sertraline for PTSD.

ABSTRACT

Circumscribed palmar hypokeratosis (CPH) is a localized disorder of epidermal keratinization that is presented as a well-delimited, depressed, erythematous plaque on the palms or on the soles. It is histopathologically characterized by an abrupt thinning of the corneal epidermal layer. CPH is considered a benign condition, but a few cases with dysplastic changes/carcinoma in situ in the hypokeratotic epidermis have been described. We report hereby a case of invasive squamous cell carcinoma developed within a plaque of CPH. The pathogenesis of the malignant changes in this disorder remains to be clarified. Clinicians should be aware of the potential for developing malignancy in CPH and carry out a closer follow-up of this disorder.

BACKGROUND: Resection of perihilar cholangiocarcinoma (pCCA) is a complex procedure with a high risk of postoperative mortality and early disease recurrence. The objective of this study was to compare patient characteristics and overall survival (OS) between pCCA patients who underwent an R1 resection and patients with localized pCCA who received palliative systemic chemotherapy. METHODS: Patients with a diagnosis of pCCA between 1997-2021 were identified from the European Network for the Study of Cholangiocarcinoma (ENS-CCA) registry. pCCA patients who underwent an R1 resection were compared with patients with localized pCCA (i.e., nonmetastatic) who were ineligible for surgical resection and received palliative systemic chemotherapy. The primary outcome was OS. RESULTS: Overall, 146 patients in the R1 resection group and 92 patients in the palliative chemotherapy group were included. The palliative chemotherapy group more often underwent biliary drainage (95% vs. 66%, p < 0.001) and had more vascular encasement on imaging (70% vs. 49%, p = 0.012) and CA 19.9 was more frequently >200 IU/L (64 vs. 45%, p = 0.046). Median OS was comparable between both groups (17.1 vs. 16 months, p = 0.06). Overall survival at 5 years after diagnosis was 20.0% with R1 resection and 2.2% with chemotherapy. Type of treatment (i.e., R1 resection or palliative chemotherapy) was not an independent predictor of OS (hazard ratio 0.76, 95% confidence interval 0.55-1.07). CONCLUSIONS: Palliative systemic chemotherapy should be considered instead of resection in patients with a high risk of both R1 resection and postoperative mortality.

The 2021 Tajogaite eruption in La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain) emitted vast volumes of lava during 85 days, which reached the ocean in several occasions at the western flank of the island. Most of these flows merged to create a primary lava delta, covering an area of 48 ha, with an additional 30 ha underwater. Here we characterize the effects of the lava-seawater interaction on the surrounding marine environment. The area was sampled during two multidisciplinary oceanographic cruises: the first one comprised the days before the lava reached the ocean and after the first contact; and the second took place a month later, when the lava delta was already formed but still receiving lava inputs. Physical-chemical anomalies were found in the whole water column at different depths up to 300 m in all measured parameters, such as turbidity (+9 NTU), dissolved oxygen concentration (-17.17 µmol kg-1), pHT25 (-0.1), and chlorophyll-a concentration (-0.33 mg m-3). Surface temperature increased up to +2.3 °C (28.5 °C) and surface salinity showed increases and decreases of -1.01 and +0.70, respectively, in a radius of 4 km around the lava delta. In the water column, the heated waters experimented a lava-induced upwelling, bringing deeper, nutrient-rich waters to shallower depths; however, this feature did not trigger any phytoplankton bloom. In fact, integrated chlorophyll-a showed an abrupt decrease of -41 % in just two days and -69 % a month later, compared to prior conditions. The chlorophyll-a depletion reached a distance larger than 2.5 km (not delimited).

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: In recent years, the implementation of electronic health records across all hospitals and primary care centres within the National Health System has significantly enhanced access to patients' clinical data. This study aims to estimate the prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2DM) in primary care settings and to outline its associated cardiovascular risk factors (CVRF) and epidemiological characteristics. METHODS: An observational cross-sectional study was conducted including 89,679 patients diagnosed with T2DM who attended the primary health care system from 2014 to 2018. Data was provided by the Primary Health Care System of the Principality of Asturias (SESPA). RESULTS: The estimated prevalence of diagnosed T2DM was 8.01% (95% Confidence Interval [CI]: 7.96-8.06) of the total population. Additionally, it was more prevalent in males compared to females (9.90% [95% CI: 9.81-9.99] vs. 6.50% [95% CI: 6.44-6.57]) and increased with age in both sexes. People with T2DM had an average age of 74 years, 52.3% were male, and the most frequently associated CVRF were: dyslipidaemia (47.90%) and hypertension (62.20%). Glycaemic control improved during the 2014-2018 period (31.69%), as did lipid control (23.66%). However, the improvement in blood pressure control (9.34%) was less pronounced for the same period. Regarding the multifactorial control of diabetes (measured by LDL-cholesterol, HbA1C and blood pressure) the overall degree of control improved by 11.55% between 2014 and 2018. CONCLUSION: In this 5-year retrospective population-based study, the utilisation of data from electronic medical records provides insights into the prevalence of T2DM in a large population, as well as real-time CVRFs. Leveraging this data facilitates the development of targeted health policies.
