ABSTRACT

Emphysematous pyelonephritis (EPN) is a rapidly progressive necrotizing infection characterized by gas in the kidneys. We describe a 48-year-old woman, a newly diagnosed diabetic, who presented with clinical features of right sided pyelonephritis with hematuria of short duration. On further evaluation, she was diagnosed to have right sided EPN, with thrombus in the renal vein and inferior vena cava (IVC). She was managed conservatively with hydration, insulin, intravenous antibiotics, anticoagulants and ureteric stenting on the right side. On follow-up, the gas shadows resolved and the thrombus completely regressed.

ABSTRACT

The title compound, C(24)H(19)N(3)O, crystallizes in the centrosymmetric space group P2(1)/a with one molecule in the asymmetric unit. The tetrahydropyridine ring has a boat conformation. The dihedral angle between the fused pyridine rings is 16.2 (1) degrees. The equatorial and axial orientations of the two phenyl groups with respect to the tetrahydropyridine ring are confirmed. The nitroso group is coplanar with the attached C-N-C group. The interplanar angle formed between the fused tetrahydropyridine and benzene planes is 13.4 (1) degrees. The crystal packing is stabilized by an intermolecular C-H.O hydrogen bond, which forms a C(9) graph-set chain running along the [001] direction.

ABSTRACT

Cows' urine was analysed by gas chromatography mass spectrometry (GC-MS). The profiles from preovulatory, ovulatory and postovulatory samples were compared to establish any qualitative and quantitative differences that might have potential value in olfactory communication. Dichloromethane was used as the solvent for extraction of the compounds. Seven different compounds were detected, of which only two were common to all the chromatograms. The chemical profile of oestrous urine was distinguished by the presence of two specific compounds, viz. di-n-propyl phthalate and 1-iodoundecane, that were not found in the other samples. As oestrous urine has been shown to elicit sexual behaviour in cattle, these two characteristic peaks may represent important chemical compounds that elicit signals that allow the bull to detect 'oestrous odours'.

ABSTRACT

The crystal structure of the title compound, C(22)H(25)NO, confirms that the bicyclic ring system adopts the chair-chair conformation. The phenyl rings are equatorially disposed with respect to the bicyclic ring. There is a slight deviation from the chair conformation in the case of the cyclohexane ring.

ABSTRACT

The structure, conformation, molecular geometry and the mode of packing of 7-tert-butyl-N-methyl-2,4-diphenyl-3-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane (C(25)H(33)N; MTABN), N-acetyl-2,4-diphenyl-3-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonane (C(22)H(25)NO; AABN) and N-methyl-2,4-bis(2-methylphenyl)-3-azabicyclo[3.3.1]nonan-9-ol (C(23)H(29)NO; MHABN) are presented. The compounds MTABN and MHABN crystallize in monoclinic space groups, whereas AABN is orthorhombic. In each of the three structures, the bicyclic ring system adopts a chair-chair conformation and the phenyl rings are in equatorial orientation with respect to the piperidine ring. In AABN, apart from the van der Waals forces, weak intermolecular C-H.O type interactions are involved in the packing.
