ABSTRACT

RP-3 jet fuel is the main fuel for aircraft in China, and it is also a source of fire. C6F12O (Novec 1230) has an outstanding fire extinguishing performance and minimal environmental impacts. In this study, the application of C6F12O in the inhibition of RP-3 jet fuel fire was considered, and the ignition delay time (IDT) of C6F12O/air and RP-3/air adding C6F12O was measured using a shock tube. In addition, the results showed that the IDT of C6F12O was 500-900 µs and less sensitive to temperature compared with those of common fuels in the range of 1150-1958 K, and the influence of C6F12O on the IDT of RP-3 jet fuel was influenced by many factors including temperature, the concentration of C6F12O, and the stoichiometric ratio of RP-3 jet fuel. According to the experimental results, the mechanism of C6F12O was verified and modified, and then integrated with the mechanisms of RP-3 jet fuel; the integrated mechanism can well predict the IDT of C6F12O/air and RP-3/air adding C6F12O. This work provides a good basis for the chemical kinetics analysis of the inhibition of RP-3 jet fuel combustion by C6F12O.

ABSTRACT

C6F12O (Novec 1230) is one of the most potential substitutes of Halon 1301. However, the study of inhibition/promotion effect of C6F12O addition on aviation kerosene is rarely reported, which greatly limits the development and application of C6F12O in oil fire accidents. In this study, numerical research was conducted to study the inhibition/promotion effect of C6F12O addition by a newly developed and optimized RP-3/C6F12O coupling skeletal mechanism. A novel methodology based on fictitious species was proposed and adopted to identify the physical dilution and thermal effects as well as the chemical radical and thermal interaction effects of C6F12O addition. It is observed that both inhibition and promotion effects can be exhibited because the chemical effect includes radical and thermal interactions at different equivalence ratios. In order to explore the kinetic reasons, the reaction path analyses were conducted. The results indicate that the HF formation reactions and the O2 consumption fluorine-containing reactions, as well as the reactions of H2O + F = OH + HF and C3F7 + O2 = C3F7O + O, were the key inhibition and promotion reaction routes, respectively. Compared with methane, the lower H/C ratio of RP-3 makes it more suitable for the use of C6F12O to suppress combustion.

ABSTRACT

The influence of childhood maltreatment on depression and anxiety has been reported in many studies, and the mechanism of this influence has been described from different perspectives. However, few research has explored the influence of child maltreatment on depression and anxiety from the perspective of benign/malicious envy. Given that, based on social comparison theory, this study explored the mediating effect of benign envy/malicious envy on child maltreatment, depression, and anxiety. The sample of this study consisted of 2,691 Chinese adolescents. The results showed that benign and malicious envy both played a significant role in mediating the relation between childhood maltreatment and depression and anxiety. Interestingly, we found that there were different mechanisms of benign and malicious envy in this relationship, namely, malicious envy promoted the effects of childhood maltreatment on depression and anxiety, whereas benign envy inhibited the effects of childhood maltreatment on depression and anxiety. These findings not only reveal the different mechanisms between the two socially comparable emotions of benign/malicious envy in the early adverse environment and depression and anxiety, but also provide a specific reference for individuals to regulate the depression and anxiety caused by childhood maltreatment and envy.

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to explore the roles of resilience, internal locus of control, and self-esteem in the link between mindfulness and benign/malicious envy (BE/ME). Nine hundred ninety-one participants (299 males, 692 females; mean age = 19.05 ± 1.54) completed a survey that assessed mindfulness, internal locus of control, resilience, self-esteem, and BE/ME. The results suggest that resilience, internal locus of control, and self-esteem independently mediate the relationship between mindfulness and BE/ME. Additionally, "internal locus of control → resilience" and "self-esteem → resilience" play chain mediating roles in the relationship between mindfulness and BE/ME. Namely, mindfulness is positively associated with resilience via improving internal control and self-esteem, thereby inhibiting malicious envy and promoting benign envy. The present study advances our knowledge of the mindfulness reperceiving theory, and thus provides a new explanation for the inhibition of negative emotions from the perspective of resilience, internal locus of control, and self-esteem.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Prior studies have indicated the link between the Big Five personality traits and aggression. Based on the general aggression model, the purpose of this study is to reveal the formation mechanism of aggression from the people's internal emotional perspective. Envy is a typical negative emotion that can be divided into benign/malicious envy. Therefore, we aim to explore the intrinsic role of benign/malicious envy within the Big Five personality traits in its connection to aggression. METHODS: We recruited 839 participants [229 men (27.29%) and 610 women (72.71%); mean age ± SD = 19.45 ± 2.39] who we tested with the NEO Personality Inventory, the Benign and Malicious Envy Scale, and the Aggression Questionnaire. RESULTS: The results of suggested that neuroticism was significantly and positively associated with aggression, while agreeableness was negatively related to aggression. Moreover, mediation analysis revealed that malicious envy works both in the relationship of neuroticism-aggression and agreeableness-aggression. CONCLUSIONS: The current study advanced knowledge of the general aggression model. Most importantly, it reveals that malicious envy, as a type of envy, plays an important mediating role between neuroticism, agreeableness and aggression. Meanwhile, the cross-gender path analysis supports the stability of the mediating role of malicious envy. This finding provides new insights into the intervention of aggression from the perspective of envy.

ABSTRACT

RP-3 kerosene is the most widely used aviation kerosene in China, and research on its chemical-kinetic mechanism is significant for understanding the combustion characteristics. Based on a novel four-component surrogate fuel consisting of n-dodecane, 2,5-dimethylhexane, 1,3,5-trimethylbenzene, and decalin (54, 22, 14, and 10% by mole), the detailed chemical-kinetic mechanism of the corresponding RP-3 surrogate fuel with 1333 species and 6803 reactions has been developed and then reduced to 145 species and 818 reactions for high-temperature conditions. After that, the merged surrogate mechanism of surrogate fuel was validated by various experimental data sets for each individual surrogate component. Then, the surrogate mechanism was validated by comparing the simulation and experimental data of the ignition delay times, species concentrations in a jet-stirred reactor, and laminar flame speeds. Good agreements between simulations and experiments were observed. In addition, using the sensitivity analysis method, the key reactions of RP-3 surrogate fuels were compared and analyzed. In summary, the mechanism developed in this study can accurately predict the ignition, oxidation, and flame propagation characteristics of RP-3 aviation kerosene. The novel surrogate model can help deeply understand the combustion characteristics of RP-3 aviation kerosene, and it is used for high-precision numerical simulation of combustion reaction flow.

ABSTRACT

Runting and stunting syndrome (RSS), which is characterized by low body weight, generally occurs early in life and leads to considerable economic losses in the commercial broiler industry. Our previous study has suggested that RSS is associated with mitochondria dysfunction in sex-linked dwarf (SLD) chickens. However, the molecular mechanism of RSS remains unknown. Based on the molecular diagnostics of mitochondrial diseases, we identified a recessive mutation c. 409G > A (p. Ala137Thr) of Twinkle mitochondrial DNA helicase (TWNK) gene and mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) depletion in RSS chickens' livers from strain N301. Bioinformatics investigations supported the pathogenicity of the TWNK mutation that is located on the extended peptide linker of Twinkle primase domain and might further lead to mtDNA depletion in chicken. Furthermore, overexpression of wild-type TWNK increases mtDNA copy number, whereas overexpression of TWNK A137T causes mtDNA depletion in vitro. Additionally, the TWNK c. 409G > A mutation showed significant associations with body weight, daily gain, pectoralis weight, crureus weight, and abdominal fat weight. Taken together, we corroborated that the recessive TWNK c. 409G > A (p. Ala137Thr) mutation is associated with RSS characterized by mtDNA depletion in SLD chicken.

ABSTRACT

In this study, we report the investigation of extracellular fatty acid binding protein gene (Ex-FABP) genetic polymorphism in a sample of 360 chicken individuals. The screening of the coding regions with their intron-exon boundaries and the proximal flanking regions was performed through a PCR-SSCP strategy. Following sequence analysis revealed 35 novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of chicken Ex-FABP gene. Among the 35 SNPs, twenty-five were found in the introns. And the remaining seven and three SNPs were in the coding region and the 5'UTR, respectively. Two SNPs in the coding region caused two missense mutants and the other five did not result in any amino acid changes. The nature and the distribution of Ex-FABP mutations in three chicken breeds were analyzed. Variations detected here might have an impact on Ex-FABP activity and function and underpin the development of gene markers for chicken fatty deposition and metabolism. The polymorphism, generated by C4715T mutation in exon5, was significantly associated with thickness of subcutaneous fat plus skin in cocks. Subcutaneous fat plus skin of cocks was more thick in TT genotype than in CC genotype (P < 0.05). The Ex-FABP gene could be a candidate locus or linked to a QTL that significantly affects fatty deposition and metabolism in chicken.
