ABSTRACT
The need for a reliable evaluation procedure is emphasized. A case for simplicity, economy and permanence is argued. Briefly stated, the essence of the plan consists of four main features:- 1. House to house blood smear survey in selected areas. 2. Areas of survey to be limited to a one-mile radius from pre-determined centres. 3. Blood smears to be made from two categories of subjects:- (a) persons with a febrile temperature.(b) persons with normal temperature but with definite history of fever during the 3 months immediately preceding survey. 4. Survey to be carried out by public health inspectors of local health authorities under guidance of officers of central health authority, at least once a year, preferably twice. The plan has been in operation six years. It is submitted, from analysis of data produced, that the plan is reasonably reliable and applicable to anti-malarial programmes in countries with a limited budget, and in fact to any circumstances of anti-malarial importance.
