ABSTRACT

The authors have removed a benign tumor of the anterior mediastinum which happened to be a hemangioma of the superior caval vein. After three months the girl is assymptomatic but, in chest radiograms, paralysis of the right part of the diaphragm persists.

ABSTRACT

The results of reimplantation of ureters in 141 children by a modified Politano-Leadbetter procedure are presented. 86 children were examined 3 to 13 years after operation. Cessation of signs of infection, reflux and ureteric obstruction was noted. The most common illnesses and congenital disorders of the urinary tract which accompany vesicoureteral reflux are discussed. Postoperative complications are also described.

ABSTRACT

A modification of the operation for megaureter is described. The dilated lower ureter segment is folded and reimplanted submucosally.

ABSTRACT

Posterior urethral valves were treated in 9 children by rupture with a Foley catheter. The interest and advantages of this simple method are underlined especially in newborns where the infant resectoscope can be traumatic and difficult to use.

ABSTRACT

It was Hendren's contribution to introduce an aggressive restorative procedure for the entire urinary tract in children with the megaureter syndrome. Our own experience in applying this method enabled us to more critically assess its value and prompted us to introduce some modifications. Instead of longitudinally resecting the dilated ureter we applied a method in which the dilated ureter wall is folded. This prevents injury to the ureter wall and its necrosis. We have given up excessive shortening of the elongated ureter, since the elongation proved to be spurious. We have also given up reconstruction of the upper part of the ureter.
