Ankylosis of the Shoulder After Traumatic Head Injury: A Late Presentation.

Heterotopic ossification (HO) is the formation of bone in surrounding soft tissue. In the literature, several causes for this phenomenon were mentioned, trauma - including surgery, burns, and traumatic brain injury. HO in a shoulder is not frequently seen after traumatic brain injury (TBI). This relationship between TBI and HO can be explained in many ways. Surgical treatment entails many complications and important anatomical structures are at risk (e.g., axillary nerve). Surgeon must weigh both, risks and benefits and counsel the patient before taking a decision of surgical excision. We present a rare case of ankylosis of the shoulder following a traumatic brain injury.

A Novel Technique of Proximal Humerus Fixation.

Proximal humerus fractures account for 4%-6% of all the fracture presentations. There are many ways of treating different kinds of proximal humerus fractures. We describe the percutaneous fixation of proximal humerus which is not widely used but is a cost effective, less invasive and comparable to other techniques with regard to results.

Technical Report: Biodegradable Spacer Device for Irreparable Rotator Cuff Tears.

The practice of medicine involves gauging the efficacy of current treatments, the associated complications, and the scope for improvement. Rotator cuff tears are a common problem, and, over the years, a variety of treatments have been used to help the patients. We describe a technique using a biodegradable balloon spacer device for treating massive irreparable rotator cuff tears.
