ABSTRACT

In addition to obtaining DNA-STR typing of an evidentiary stain for individual identification and paternity tests, knowing the time since deposition (TSD) is also highly desired in forensics. To provide a reference for the research of predicting the TSD, this article reviews the reported optical, cell biological and molecular biological methods of determining the age of bloodstains domestic and overseas, and also introduces the application of microbial forensics, a new field of forensic science, to provide space-time clues of evidentiary stains.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: We studied species diversity and enzyme activities of fungi from 11 marine sediment samples in the South China Sea. METHODS: Salt-tolerant fungi were isolated by a dilution-plate method, and their diversity was studied based on fungal morphology and rDNA ITS (Internal Transcribed Spacer) sequences. Enzyme activities were screened by six special selective media. RESULTS: A total of 1689 strains of salt-tolerant fungi were isolated. Morphology and ITS sequence analysis identified these fungi to 41 species of 15 described genera, of which Aspergillus sp. and Penicillium sp. were the dominant populations. Studies on enzyme activities of 41 sequenced strains showed that 8 strains produce cellulase, 9 strains produce amylase, 5 strains produce compound enzyme, 16 strains produce protease, 3 strains produce lipase and no strain produce chitonsanase. Acrodontium sp. 8m and Aspergillus sp. 86b produced the most multiple enzymes, while Penicillium sp. 41m produced comparatively higher protease. CONCLUSION: There were abundant salt-tolerant fungi from marine sediment samples in the South China Sea, and more strains had enzyme activities.

ABSTRACT

Objective To evaluate the probability of siblings identification in Identifiler system by using the software of automatic analysis. Methods Using the software of automatic analysis in siblings jdentification.STP genetic typing of 151 pairs of full siblings and 31224 pairs of unrelated individuals from manual simulation were analyzed in 15 STR loci of ldentifiler system. Results Kin probability(W_(FS))of 39.07% full siblings were more than 99.999% while W_(FS) of unrelated individual pairs were 0% .W_(FS) of 60.93% full siblings and 21.3% unrelated individual pairs were all at the range from 99.999% to 1% .W_(FS) of 78.7% unrelated individual pairs 0% full siblings individuals were less than 1% .Therefore, there were notability difference between full siblings and unrelated individual pairs. In addition, testing of 15 STR loci of Identifiler system,it suggested that the pair were siblings when the locus number of the entirely-same is not less than 5 or that of the entirely-different is not more than 1,and that the pair were unrelated individuals when the locus number of the entirely-different is not less than 6 or that of the entirely-8alne is not more than 1.Conclusion The software of automatic analysis and the Identifiler system call be used to siblings identification.

ABSTRACT

The key of Ankle-brachial index (ABI) measurement is the synchronous measurement of four limbs' systolic blood pressures. In this paper is analyzed the inadequacy of the modern blood pressure measurement technologies used in the ABI measurement process. Special emphasis is laid on the principles and characteristics of the double-layer cuffs technology. The research orientation, the existing problems, and the way toward improvement are discussed.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study genetic alterations in 9 STR loci and the Amelogenin locus in various tumor tissues. Methods twenty cancer tissues taken from 20 different unrelated individuals and their blood specimens were examined with Chelex-100 extraction of DNA, Profiler Plus PCR amplification and 310 Genetic Analyzer. Results All of the 10 STR loci exist genetic alterations. The genetic alterations occurred in 6out of 20 cases. The rate of genetic alteration was 30%. Six genetic alterations were found in one tumor tissue. Conclusion The forensic community has to take be cautious not to use the tumor tissue for personnel identification.
