ABSTRACT

We studied morphological structure of the kidneys in chronic endotoxemia modeled against the background of hypothyroidism. The detected changes did not differ from those under conditions of basic endotoxemia model and were characterized by the development of glomerulosclerosis and glomerulohyalinosis. The changes were less severe in rats with hypothyroidism and appeared at the late terms of the experiment. This indicated a moderate protective effect of preexisting thyroid hormone deficiency.

ABSTRACT

Simulation of chronic endotoxemia in rats leads to the development of nephropathy and nephrosclerosis. Kidney involvement was more pronounced in animals with endotoxemia developing against the background of hyperthyroidism. Direct effects of bacterial LPS and its secondary effects mediated through circulating LPO products under conditions of thyroid hormone excess caused damage to the renal tissue. Immunohistochemical studies demonstrated higher expression of apoptosis markers in nephrocytes of the proximal tubules in rats with hyperthyroidism.

ABSTRACT

Experimental study of the effects of endogenous toxic compounds on endocrine organs showed that the pathomorphological changes were caused by the cytopathic effects of endogenous toxic compounds involving the development of stereotypical reactions to injury. The severity of these reactions depended on the initial functional status of the gland and its involvement in systemic mechanisms of adaptation to the toxic process.

ABSTRACT

Morphological changes in the ovaries and levels of sex hormones were studied in rats with chronic endotoxicosis. Long-term endogenous intoxication was associated with the development of sclerocystic ovary syndrome paralleled by hormone imbalance.
