ABSTRACT

Results of otoneurological examinations of 16 patients (from 6 families) with hereditary cerebellar ataxia have been analyzed. It has been found that all the patients exhibit vestibular function disturbances that manifest clinically by the truncal and supranuclear syndrome. Of other otoneurological signs the most frequent is dysphagia (in 10 out of the 16 patients) which is due not only to the dyscoordination of the glottal muscles, but also to a paresis of the epiglottis, this paresis also being a sign of supranuclear pathology. The absence of the otoneurological disturbances in practically healthy relatives of the patients (12 persons) requires further accumulation of the experimental material, since it can be a proof, that there is no pathological carrying of the gene of hereditary cerebellar ataxia (Pierre Marie's disease) and this may be used subsequently for medico-genetic consultations.

ABSTRACT

A total of 540 cases with cerebral vascular disorders examined otoneurologically were analyzed. The observed patients were treated in the Research Institute of Neurology. In 62 patients (11,5%) the De Klein symptom was detected. A comparison of the otoneurological rheoencephalographic and neurological symptomatology gives grounds to evaluate the De Klein symptom, encountered in different degrees of circulatory insufficiency in the vertebro-basillar system, as one of the early signs of vascular decompensation in initial forms of cerebro-vascular insufficiency, marking its diagnostic significance.

ABSTRACT

On the basis of literature and personal data the author qualifies vertigo as an important subjective symptom of a number of diseases. The author proposes and evaluates the existing classifications of vertigo and the applied terminology. The systematics of vertigo based on the clinical experience is proposed. The paper contains qualitative and quantitative characteristics of separate types of vertigo which were singled out according to the character of sensations, conditions of their appearance, time of their duration, attendant neurological and another objective symptomatics and categories of diseases. In this connection the author divides vertigo into peripheral (labyrinthiform and radicle) and central (nucleus, supra-nuclear, "higher"). Principals of treatment are described.
