ABSTRACT

Background: Birth represents an influential moment in women's lives that can be a powerful or traumatic experience. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the relationship among maternal perception of childbirth experience, spiritual health, and maternal-infant relationship in the postpartum women. Materials and Methods: This descriptive-analytical study was conducted on 305 postpartum women referred to Health Centers in Karaj. The data were collected using the Perception of Birth Scale (POBS), maternal postnatal relationship scale, and spiritual health questionnaire. Results: In this study, the mean (standard deviation (SD) age of the participants was 27.50 (5.56) years. The Spearman's correlation test results showed that there was a significant positive relationship among the maternal perception of childbirth experience, the general maternal-infant relationship (r = 0.34, p < 0.001), quality of relationship (r = 0.17, p = 0.002), pleasure with interaction (r = 0.32, p < 0.001), and absence of hostility (r = 0.28, p < 0.001). In addition, a positive relationship was observed among spiritual health and general maternal-infant relationship (r = 0.21, p < 0.001), pleasure in interaction (r = 0.08, p = 0.164), absence of hostility (r = 0.15, p = 0.008), and the maternal perception of childbirth experience (r = 0.11, p = 0.039). Conclusions: It seems that to promote maternal-infant relationship, health care providers should not only try to promote physical intimacy between mother and infant but also create a positive emotional state for the mother during birth.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Maternal mortality resulting from pregnancy and delivery complications is a sensitive indicator of women's status in the society, access to care services, and sufficiency and quality of healthcare and is the major indicator of a country's developmental status. The present study aimed at determination of educational needs regarding safe motherhood from suburban women's perspective. METHOD: This qualitative study with conventional content analysis approach was conducted in suburban healthcare centers of Alborz University of medical sciences from 23 October to 22 December 2019. The participants included 15 eligible Iranian suburban women who were selected through purposive sampling. The data were collected via in-depth semi-structured interviews and focus groups. Data were analyzes with MAXQDA10 software. RESULTS: Three main themes emerged from the analysis of the data (barriers against safe pregnancy, accountability multidimensional training, and threats and opportunities of distance learning), six categories, 11 subcategories and 547 codes. DISCUSSION: The results indicated that suburban women were less probable to be present in healthcare centers and receive the required information compared to their peers due to their conditions; provision of accessible training services appropriated to their conditions can greatly contribute to elimination of these problems.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Promoting the health and providing a sense of well-being in each period of a woman's life could improve her life quality and would bring lots of benefits to the community. Menopause has a remarkable impact on quality of life during the climacteric stage and the early stages of post menopause. AIMS: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a behaviour change counselling program based on the model A, which is planned in order to improve the women self-care during the climacteric stage. METHODS: The study is quasi-experimental type, conducted before and after counselling intervention, to evaluate effect of the health behaviour counselling of model 5A on self-care of 42 women aged 39-51 (during climacteric stage) in areas of general health, physical activity, nutrition, sleep, psycho-social health, body image and sexual health. After obtaining permission from the ethics of Alborz University of Medical Sciences, a clinical trial registry (IRCT2016042427557N1) was performed. RESULTS: Results of non-parametric Fridman test showed a change in score average grade of self-care before and after the health behaviour counselling in the area studied (P < 0.0001). There was a significant difference between the self-care score before counselling, and one and three months later, in all areas except body image and sleep. CONCLUSIONS: Multidimensional changes of women in climacteric stage may affect their life quality. They need more information about menopause process to manage its symptoms. Results of this study highlight more the effectiveness of health behaviour change counselling planned by emphasizing the individual's self-care level.
