ABSTRACT

Etiologic factors responsible for the development of reflex coughing are described. A highly efficacious and safe method is proposed for the management of this condition of psychogenic origin associated with hyperventilation by intradermal novocaine blockade of the laryngeal Head's zones in conjunction with preventive treatment of coughing attacks.

ABSTRACT

Own and foreign experience in surgical treatment of thyroid gland (TG) diseases was analyzed. Surgical anatomy of TG, effective methods of surgical techniques, classification of disorders of vocal cords mobility, and treatment policy are described. It is demonstrated that no less than 70-80% patients with respiratory disorders after surgeries on TG can avoid tracheostomy and subsequent complex and sometimes staged plastic surgeries on the larynx. Proposed recommendations permit one to reduce risk of postoperative complications, to improve long-term results of surgical treatment and life quality of operated patients.

ABSTRACT

Complex assessment of changes in laryngoscopic picture, direct laryngoscopy under anesthesia, tomography, thermography of the larynx and electrodiagnosis allows prognosis of recovery of motility of one of the vocal cords. The reflex spasm was relieved with corporal reflex therapy and novocain blockade of Zakharyin-Ged zones for the larynx. Out of 26 patients 11 recovered motility of the vocal cord due to the novocain blockades, 4--due to the corporal reflex therapy and 4 patients--spontaneously. No response was achieved in 7 patients.

ABSTRACT

The paper reviews data on effective use of reflex therapy in laryngeal dysfunction: hypo- and hypertonicity dysphonia, spastic dysphonia, functional aphonia. Besides classical methods of acupuncture, effective were, especially in functional aphonia, novocaine blockades of laryngeal tender zones.

ABSTRACT

In hysteric episodes, one can observe breathing problems as a result of paradoxical joining of the vocal cords while inhalation. The paper provides data which may help to make differential diagnosis between true laryngeal stenosis treated by tracheostomy and intermittent functional stridor in hysteria treated psychotherapeutically.

ABSTRACT

Fourteen patients with unilateral paralysis of the recurrent laryngeal nerve underwent a combined therapy which included acupuncture, phonopedics, respiratory muscle gymnastics, prozerin administration by means of sinusoidal modulated currents, and intramuscular injection of B1 and B6 vitamins. Before and after treatment the vocal function was assessed using indirect laryngoscopy, laryngostroboscopy, larynx tomography and thermography, larynx endophotography, voice tape recording, and maximum phonation time measurement. The combined treatment yielded good results in all patients in terms of the recovery of their vocal function. In 11 patients the recovery was reached within 2-3 weeks and in 3 remaining patients within 2-3 months. It is maintained that the recovery was expedited due to the beneficial effect of acupuncture and phonopedics.
