ABSTRACT

A case is described of a young man presenting with diabetes insipidus and a junctional scotoma. A diffuse infiltrating mass centred in the corpus callosum and suprasellar area is found, which on pathological examination proved to be a primary intracranial germinoma. The case illustrates that rarely the corpus callosum can be involved by this tumour and that diagnosis may be delayed in atypical presentations.

ABSTRACT

An expectant, nontreatment strategy for acoustic neuromas implies an understanding of the natural biologic behavior of these tumors. This study describes the long-term follow-up of a group of unoperated acoustic neuroma patients. Patterns of tumor growth are discussed in light of clinical outcome. Patient selection and a follow-up protocol are recommended for those individuals in whom a nontreatment strategy is contemplated.

ABSTRACT

CASE REPORT: An asymptomatic patient was referred for assessment of an intraocular amelanotic mass in her left eye. Examination showed a mass effect in the inferior location at the 5 o'clock position. This abnormality was defined with ultrasound biomicroscopy and standard ultrasound, but because the appearance was not typical of a melanoma or other choroidal infiltrate, magnetic resonance images and computed tomograms of the orbits were obtained, identifying an extraocular mass arising from the zygomatic rim. Results of a biopsy reported an intraosseous hemangioma. COMMENTS: The diagnosis of intraosseous hemangioma, because of its low incidence and unusual manner of presentation, can be challenging. Computed tomography and biopsy are helpful in making a definitive diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

Ocular nocardiosis is a rare but potentially aggressive process. Clinically, it can mimic other disease entities, including neoplasia and other types of infection. We present a case of nocardial panophthalmitis progressing to subretinal abscess and emphasize the radiologic and clinical features.
