ABSTRACT

The medical images and reference intervals, in the diagnosis and treatment process of diseases, are undoubtedly very important. Clear and easy interpretation of images and reference intervals derived from medical devices and statistical methods, respectively, are of great importance for doctors in the diagnosis and treatment process. In this article, for systemic lupus erythematosus disease, we have transformed the reference intervals into fuzzy sets and calculated the entropy values to find the uncertainty contained in the reference interval of systemic lupus erythematosus disease, so the doctors can keep in view patient treatment using entropy values. Finally, for better observations of patients, with the help of the entropy functions, new types of medical images were given for some trabecular bone diseases using Wolfram Mathematica 7.0. We should note that this type of medical images for bone mineral density is not in medicine.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between the loneliness and depression levels of students studying at Inonu University, Faculty of Health Sciences, Departments of Nursing, Midwifery, Physiotherapy, Audiology and Child Development and the factors that affect these levels. DESIGN AND METHODS: This descriptive cross-sectional study which used a socio-demographic information form, the UCLA Loneliness Scale and the Beck Depression Inventory included 1004 students. FINDINGS: According to the results of the research, there was a positive relationship between loneliness and depression levels among university students. Class year, family type, place of residence, mother's education level, and economic situation were important indicators of loneliness and depression. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Psychiatric nurses can help students express their psychological difficulties and help them change their behaviors and lifestyles.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Nursing education contains both theoretical and practical training processes. Clinical training is the basis of nursing education. The quality of clinical training is closely related to the quality of the clinical learning environment. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to determine the transfer of theoretical knowledge into clinical practice by nursing students and the difficulties they experience during this process. METHODS: A qualitative research design was used in the study. The study was conducted in 2015 with 30 nursing students in a university located in the east of Turkey, constituting three focus groups. The questions directed to the students during the focus group interviews were as follows: What do you think about your clinical training? How do you evaluate yourself in the process of putting your theoretical knowledge into clinical practice? What kind of difficulties are you experiencing in clinical practices? RESULTS: The data were interpreted using the method of content analysis. Most of the students reported that theoretical information they received was excessive, their ability to put most of this information into practice was weak, and they lacked courage to touch patients for fear of implementing procedures incorrectly. As a result of the analysis of the data, five main themes were determined: clinical training, guidance and communication, hospital environment and expectations. CONCLUSIONS: The results of this study showed that nursing students found their clinical knowledge and skills insufficient and usually failed to transfer their theoretical knowledge into clinical practices. The study observed that nursing students experienced various issues in clinical practices. In order to fix these issues and achieve an effective clinical training environment, collaboration should be achieved among nursing instructors, nurses, nursing school and hospital managements. Additionally, the number of nursing educators should be increased and training programs should be provided regarding effective clinical training methods.

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to determine the relationship between the adherence to treatment and social support in psychiatric patients. The study was completed with a total of 324 psychiatric patients. The data gathering tools used were Demographics Questionnaire, Morisky Medication Adherence Scale and Multi-Dimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support. The study sample consisted of psychiatric patients who were selected from the population by using the simple random sampling method. Among the patients, 50.9% adhered to the treatment, and 14.5% did not. Patients living in city and country-town, with high income and living with family were found to have more social support. A positive, significant relationship was found among scales (p<0.05). As the mean scores of social support increased, patients' adherence to treatment increased.
