ABSTRACT

Purpose: To develop an MRI-based radiomics model to predict high-risk pathologic features for lung adenocarcinoma: micropapillary and solid pattern (MPsol), spread through air space (STAS), and poorly differentiated patterns. Materials and Methods: As a prospective study, we screened clinical N0 lung cancer patients who were surgical candidates and had undergone both 18F-fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG) positron emission tomography-CT (PET/CT) and chest CT from August 2018 to January 2020. We recruited patients meeting our proposed imaging criteria indicating high-risk, that is, poorer prognosis of lung adenocarcinoma, using CT and FDG PET/CT. If possible, these patients underwent an MRI examination from which we extracted 77 radiomics features from T1-contrast-enhanced and T2-weighted images. Additionally, patient demographics, SUVmax (maximum standardized uptake value) on FDG PET/CT, and the mean ADC value on DWI, were considered together to build prediction models for high-risk pathologic features. Results: Among 616 patients, 72 patients met the imaging criteria for high-risk lung cancer and underwent lung MRI. The MR-eligible group showed a higher prevalence of nodal upstaging (29.2% vs. 4.2%, p<0.001), vascular invasion (6.5% vs. 2.1%, p=0.011), high-grade pathologic features (p<0.001), worse 4-year disease free survival (p<0.001) compared with non-MR-eligible group. The prediction power for MR-based radiomics model predicting high-risk pathologic features was good, with mean area under the receiver operating curve (AUC) value measuring 0.751-0.886 in test sets. Adding clinical variables increased the predictive performance for MPsol and the poorly differentiated pattern using the 2021 grading system (AUC 0.860 and 0.907, respectively). Conclusion: Our imaging criteria can effectively screen high-risk lung cancer patients and predict high-risk pathologic features by our MR-based prediction model using radiomics.

ABSTRACT

Blackberries (Rubus fruticosus), which are known to include a variety of bioactive substances, have been extensively studied for their antioxidant properties. Blackberries possess multiple health beneficial effects, including anti-inflammation, anti-atherosclerosis, anti-tumor and immunomodulatory activity. However, the potential biological effects and precise molecular mechanisms of the fermented extracts remain largely unexplored. In this research, we demonstrate the effect of blackberries fermented with Lactobacillus for addressing obesity. We investigated the effect of blackberries fermented by Lactobacillus on mice fed a high-fat (60% kcal) diet for 12 weeks. Fermented blackberry administration reduced the body weight and epididymal fat caused by a high-fat diet compared to the obese group. The triglyceride and total cholesterol, which are blood lipid indicators, and the levels of leptin, which is an insulin resistance indicator, were significantly increased in the obese group but were significantly decreased in the fermented blackberries-treated group. Additionally, the expression of adipogenesis marker proteins, such as CEBPα, PPAR-γ and SREBP-1, was significantly increased in the obese group, whereas it was decreased in the fermented blackberries-treated group. These results suggest that fermented blackberries have a protective effect against high-fat-diet-induced obesity by inhibiting adipogenesis and are a potential candidate for the treatment of obesity.

ABSTRACT

Purpose To develop an artificial intelligence (AI) system for humeral tumor detection on chest radiographs (CRs) and evaluate the impact on reader performance. Materials and Methods In this retrospective study, 14 709 CRs (January 2000 to December 2021) were collected from 13 468 patients, including CT-proven normal (n = 13 116) and humeral tumor (n = 1593) cases. The data were divided into training and test groups. A novel training method called false-positive activation area reduction (FPAR) was introduced to enhance the diagnostic performance by focusing on the humeral region. The AI program and 10 radiologists were assessed using holdout test set 1, wherein the radiologists were tested twice (with and without AI test results). The performance of the AI system was evaluated using holdout test set 2, comprising 10 497 normal images. Receiver operating characteristic analyses were conducted for evaluating model performance. Results FPAR application in the AI program improved its performance compared with a conventional model based on the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (0.87 vs 0.82, P = .04). The proposed AI system also demonstrated improved tumor localization accuracy (80% vs 57%, P < .001). In holdout test set 2, the proposed AI system exhibited a false-positive rate of 2%. AI assistance improved the radiologists' sensitivity, specificity, and accuracy by 8.9%, 1.2%, and 3.5%, respectively (P < .05 for all). Conclusion The proposed AI tool incorporating FPAR improved humeral tumor detection on CRs and reduced false-positive results in tumor visualization. It may serve as a supportive diagnostic tool to alert radiologists about humeral abnormalities. ABSTRACT

The purpose of this work was to examine the effects of potassium poly-γ-glutamate (PGA-K) on mice fed a high-fat diet consisting of 60% of total calories for 12 weeks. PGA-K administration reduced the increase in body weight, epididymal fat, and liver weight caused by a high-fat diet compared to the obese group. The triglyceride, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels, which are blood lipid indicators, were significantly increased in the obese group but were significantly decreased in the PGA-K-treated group. The administration of PGA-K resulted in a significant inhibition of pro-inflammatory cytokines, including tumor necrosis factor α and interleukin 6. Moreover, the levels of leptin and insulin, which are insulin resistance indicators, significantly increased in the obese group but were significantly decreased in the PGA-K-treated group. These results suggest that PGA-K exhibits a protective effect against obesity induced by a high-fat diet, underscoring its potential as a candidate for obesity treatment.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: To investigate the feasibility of using preoperative imaging indices to predict 2-year native liver survival after the Kasai procedure in patients with biliary atresia (BA). MATERIALS AND METHODS: The retrospective review included 190 BA patients who underwent the Kasai procedure between 2000 and 2020, with preoperative US and/or MRI, excluding cases with less than 2-year follow-up period. Multivariable logistic regression analysis was performed to identify imaging indices to predict 2-year native liver survival. Kasai failure was defined as the need for liver transplantation or death within 2 years of the Kasai procedure. RESULTS: Of the 90 patients included, all had preoperative US, and 61 also had MRI. Kasai failure occurred in 52% (47/90). Preoperative US identified gallbladder length (OR 0.40, 95% CI 0.17-0.95, p = 0.039; cutoff 1.6 cm, AUC 67.66) and biliary cysts (OR 24.64, 95% CI 1.97-308.08, p = 0.013) as significant Kasai failure predictors, with a combined accuracy of 73% (60/82). For patients having both preoperative US and MRI, significant predictors were hepatic artery diameter (OR 6.75, 95% CI 1.31-34.88, p = 0.023; cutoff 2 mm, AUC 73.83) and biliary cysts (OR 23.89, 95% CI 1.43-398.82, p = 0.027) on US, and gallbladder length (OR 0.25, 95% CI 0.08-0.76, p = 0.014; cutoff 1.2 cm, AUC 74.72) and spleen size (OR 2.53, 95% CI 1.02-6.29, p = 0.045; cutoff 6.9 cm, AUC 73.72) on MRI, with a combined accuracy of 85% (52/61). CONCLUSION: Preoperative US and/or MRI enhance the 2-year native liver survival prediction in BA patients after the Kasai procedure. CLINICAL RELEVANCE STATEMENT: BA patients with hepatic artery diameter > 2 mm (US), gallbladder length < 1.6 cm (US) or < 1.2 cm (MRI), spleen size > 6.9 cm (MRI), and absence of biliary cysts (US/MRI) have a decreased likelihood of 2-year native liver survival. KEY POINTS: • Preoperative US and/or MRI can predict the probability of achieving 2-year native liver survival following the Kasai procedure. • Combining US and MRI improved the accuracy to 85% for predicting 2-year native liver survival in BA patients. • The hepatic artery diameter > 2 mm (US), gallbladder length < 1.6 cm (US) or < 1.2 cm (MRI), spleen size > 6.9 cm (MRI), and no biliary cysts (US/MRI) are significant predictors of Kasai failure in patients with biliary atresia.

ABSTRACT

Cervi cornu extracts have been used in traditional medicine for the treatment of various disorders, including osteoporosis. However, since it is not easy to separate the active ingredients, limited research has been conducted on their functional properties. In this study, we extracted the low-molecular-weight (843 Da) collagen NP-2007 from cervi cornu by enzyme hydrolyzation to enhance absorption and evaluated the therapeutic effect in monosodium iodoacetate-induced rat osteoarthritis (OA) model. NP-2007 was orally administered at 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg for 21 days. We showed that the production of matrix metalloproteinase-2, -3, and -9, decreased after NP-2007 treatment. The levels of tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, interleukin (IL)-1ß, IL-6, and prostaglandin E2 were also reduced after treatment of NP-2007. Furthermore, the administration of NP-2007 resulted in effective preservation of both the synovial membrane and knee cartilage and significantly decreased the transformation of fibrous tissue. We verified that the treatment of NP-2007 significantly reduced the production of nitric oxide and pro-inflammatory cytokines including TNF-α, IL-1ß, and IL-6 in lipopolysaccharides-stimulated RAW 264.7 cells by regulation of the NF-kB and MAPK signaling pathways. This study indicates that NP-2007 can alleviate symptoms of osteoarthritis and can be applied as a novel treatment for OA treatment.

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect that Glycine max hydrolyzed with enzymes from Bacillus velezensis KMU01 has on dextran-sulfate-sodium (DSS)-induced colitis in mice. Hydrolysis improves functional health through the bioconversion of raw materials and increase in intestinal absorption rate and antioxidants. Therefore, G. max was hydrolyzed in this study using a food-derived microorganism, and its anti-inflammatory effect was observed. Enzymatically hydrolyzed G. max (EHG) was orally administered once daily for four weeks before DSS treatment. Colitis was induced in mice through the consumption of 5% (w/v) DSS in drinking water for eight days. The results showed that EHG treatment significantly alleviated DSS-induced body weight loss and decreased the disease activity index and colon length. In addition, EHG markedly reduced tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin (IL)-1ß, and IL-6 production, and increased that of IL-10. EHG improved DSS-induced histological changes and intestinal epithelial barrier integrity in mice. Moreover, we found that the abundance of 15 microorganisms changed significantly; that of Proteobacteria and Escherichia coli, which are upregulated in patients with Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis, decreased after EHG treatment. These results suggest that EHG has a protective effect against DSS-induced colitis and is a potential candidate for colitis treatment.

BACKGROUND: Sutures exist in the craniofacial area, and the pattern of maturation and synostosis of facial sutures is largely unknown. METHODS: For a comprehensive understanding of the three-dimensional circummaxillary suture micromorphology, human midpalatal suture (MPS) and pterygomaxillary articular complex from eight subjects' (five males, three females, 72-88 years old) autopsies were longitudinally scanned with microcomputed tomography. Additional histology was performed for hematoxylin and eosin staining. Sutural micromorphology was assessed by interdigitation index (II), obliteration index (OI) and obliteration number. Intergroup comparisons were performed with Kruskal-Wallis and Mann-Whitney U with Bonferroni correction (α = 0.005). Correlation with anteroposterior and craniocaudal gradients was assessed with Spearman's correlation test (α = 0.05). RESULTS: Maxillary region of MPS presented a higher II 1.50 (0.61) and obliteration number per slice 8 (9) (P < 0.005). OI was increased in palatomaxillary 35% (47%) followed by pterygopalatine suture 25% (49%) (P < 0.005). The II and OI of the MPS exhibited only a weak anteroposterior gradient, with relatively low correlations. Obliteration areas were found sporadically along the entire MPS. CONCLUSIONS: Based on these findings, it is conceivable that the success of nonsurgical maxillary expansion largely depends on individual variations in sutural morphology and maturation rather than appliance design.

ABSTRACT

The present study aimed to evaluate the performance of automated skeletal maturation assessment system for Fishman's skeletal maturity indicators (SMI) for the use in dental fields. Skeletal maturity is particularly important in orthodontics for the determination of treatment timing and method. SMI is widely used for this purpose, as it is less time-consuming and practical in clinical use compared to other methods. Thus, the existing automated skeletal age assessment system based on Greulich and Pyle and Tanner-Whitehouse3 methods was further developed to include SMI using artificial intelligence. This hybrid SMI-modified system consists of three major steps: (1) automated detection of region of interest; (2) automated evaluation of skeletal maturity of each region; and (3) SMI stage mapping. The primary validation was carried out using a dataset of 2593 hand-wrist radiographs, and the SMI mapping algorithm was adjusted accordingly. The performance of the final system was evaluated on a test dataset of 711 hand-wrist radiographs from a different institution. The system achieved a prediction accuracy of 0.772 and mean absolute error and root mean square error of 0.27 and 0.604, respectively, indicating a clinically reliable performance. Thus, it can be used to improve clinical efficiency and reproducibility of SMI prediction.

ABSTRACT

This study confirmed the change in functional composition and alcohol-induced acute liver injury in Aloe arborescens after fermentation. An acute liver injury was induced by administration of ethanol (3 g/kg/day) to C57BL/6J mice for 5 days. A fermented A. arborescens Miller leaf (FAAL) extract was orally administered 30 minutes before ethanol treatment. After fermentation, the emodin content was approximately 13 times higher than that of the raw material. FAAL extract significantly attenuated ethanol-induced aspartate aminotransferase, alanine aminotransferase, and triglyceride increases in serum and liver tissue. Histological analysis revealed that FAAL extract inhibits inflammatory cell infiltration and fat accumulation in liver tissues. The cytochrome P450 2E1, superoxide dismutase, and glutathione (GSH), which involved in alcohol-induced oxidative stress, were effectively regulated by FAAL extract in serum and liver tissues, except for GSH. FAAL also maintained the antioxidant defense system by upregulating heme oxygenase 1 and nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 protein expression. In addition, FAAL extract inhibited the decrease in alcohol dehydrogenase and aldehyde dehydrogenase activity, which promoted alcohol metabolism and prevented the activation of inflammatory response. Our results suggest that FAAL could be used as a potential therapeutic agent for ethanol-induced acute liver injury.

Orthodontic facemasks are extraoral orthodontic appliances that influence maxillary and mandibular development in children with skeletal Class III malocclusion. While a facemask is most effective in patients before the growth spurt, skin irritation is common during the treatment. Therefore, this retrospective study aimed to investigate the prevalence and pattern of such skin changes and identify their possible associated risk factors. We included 177 patients with skeletal Class III malocclusion who underwent facemask therapy. Patient age and sex, orthodontic parameters expressing the severity of malocclusion, the presence of complaints in the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) areas, and the level of patient cooperation were evaluated. Additionally, the severity and onset time of skin reactions were further analyzed. The results indicated that 43.5% of patients developed skin changes typical of irritant contact dermatitis. Skin irritation was significantly associated with the presence of TMJ complaints and female sex. Furthermore, skin irritation was more common in younger patients. Clinicians should pay special attention to the skin areas that come into contact with the appliance during each follow-up visit to detect potential problems. Moreover, patients and their parents should be given adequate information about the possibility, prevention, and management of skin problems during facemask therapy.

ABSTRACT

Ethnopharmacological relevance: Ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe) has been used for food and applied in Ayurvedic medicine in India for thousands of years. With a reputation for strong anti-inflammatory properties, it has been used for to treat colds, migraines, nausea, arthritis, and high blood pressure in China and Southeast Asia. The physiological activity of ginger is attributed to its functional components, including gingerol and shogaol, and their derivatives. Aim of the study: We aimed to investigate the effects of 8- and 10-shogaol and their bioactive signaling mechanisms in a dextran sodium sulfate (DSS)-induced colitis mouse model. The anti-colitis efficacy of 6-, 8-, and 10-derivatives of gingerol and shogaol was comparatively analyzed. Materials and methods: Colitis was induced by providing mice with drinking water containing 5% DSS (w/v) for 8 days. The 6-, 8-, and 10-derivatives of gingerol and shogaol were orally administered for two weeks at a dose of 30 mg/kg. Changes in body weight and disease activity index were measured. The levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines, iNOS and COX-2, as well as the phosphorylation of NF-κB were analyzed using ELISA, PCR, or western blotting. Mucin expression and mRNA levels were measured using alcian blue staining and PCR, respectively. The tight-junction-associated proteins occludin and ZO-1 were assessed using immunohistological staining. Results: The 6-, 8-, and 10-derivatives of gingerol and shogaol exhibited anti-inflammatory effects by regulating NF-κB signaling. Among the compounds administered, 10-shogaol was the most effective against DSS-induced inflammation. Comparative analysis of the chemical structure showed that shogaol, a dehydrated analog of gingerol, was more effective. 6- and 10-shogaol showed similar effects on DSS-induced morphological changes in the colonic mucus layer, mucin expression, and tight junction proteins. Conclusions: 6-, 8-, and 10-Gingerol and 6-, 8-, and 10-shogaol significantly improved the clinical symptoms and intestinal epithelial barrier damage in DSS-induced colitis in mice. The derivatives effectively inhibited DSS-induced inflammation through the regulation of NF-κB signaling. Moreover, 10-shogaol showed the most potent anti-inflammatory effect among the six compounds used in this study. The results indicate that 8- and 10-shogaol, both main ingredients in ginger, may serve as therapeutic candidates for the treatment of colitis.

While the extrinsic factors affecting reproducibility of shear wave elastography (SWE) have been well documented, there are few resources assessing intrinsic characteristics of the lesion affecting the reproducibility and accuracy of SWE. In this regard, this study aimed to evaluate the accuracy of measured elasticity and the reproducibility of SWE according to the lesion size and stiffness. Two breast radiologists examined 20 targets of 4 different levels of stiffness and 5 different sizes (2.5, 4, 7, 11, and 18 mm) in a customized elasticity phantom. The B-mode image, color elastography image, and kPa measurement were obtained twice by each examiner with a 1-week interval. Inter- and intra-observer reproducibility and the accuracy of measured kPa were analyzed using intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Bland-Altman analysis. Subgroup analysis was run to evaluate the effect of lesion size and stiffness on the reproducibility and accuracy of measured kPa. Inter- and intraobserver reproducibility for measuring kPa showed excellent agreement (ICC: 0.9742 and 0.9582; ICC: 0.9932 and 0.9294). The size and stiffness of the targets did not affect reproducibility. The overall accuracy of measured kPa was very high (ICC: 0.8049). In the subgroup analysis, targets that were ≤4 mm in size showed lower accuracy (ICC: 0.542), whereas targets that were 7 and 11 mm in size showed higher accuracy (ICC: 0.9832 and 0.9656, respectively). SWE shows excellent reproducibility regardless of lesion size or stiffness in phantom targets. The accuracy of measured kPa is high in lesions that are 7 and 11 mm in size but is low in lesions that are ≤4 mm in size.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Cheonggukjang is a traditional fermented soybean paste with significant health-promoting effects. On the other hand, there have been insufficient studies on the safety and efficacy of Cheonggukjang, which is produced using traditional methods containing toxins and biogenic amines (BAs). This study compared the laxative effect of Cheonggukjang, containing high or low levels of toxins and BAs (HTBC or LTBC) in a loperamide (Lop)-induced constipation mouse model. MATERIALS/METHODS: To induce constipation, Lop (5 mg/kg) was administered orally to ICR mice twice a day for 4 days, and the dose was increased to 8 mg/kg after a 3-day rest period. Cheonggukjang (500 mg/kg, HTBC, or LTBC respectively) was administered for four weeks before the Lop treatment. RESULTS: The number of stools, fecal weight, water contents, gastrointestinal transit, and histological alterations were recovered significantly in the HTBC or LTBC groups. HTBC and LTBC administration did not induce significant changes in body weight, dietary intake, and behavior. The opioid-receptor downstream signaling pathway in colon tissues was also evaluated. The c-Kit, stem cell kinase, and mitogen-activated protein kinases subfamilies, including extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2, c-Jun N-terminal kinases, and p38, were all downregulated in the HTBC or LTBC-administered mice colon compared to the Lop group. CONCLUSION: These results show that Cheonggukjang, containing high levels of toxins and BAs, have a similar laxative effect in a mouse model of Lop-induced constipation.

Multicentric cancer of the pectoral and ectopic breasts is extremely rare, and diagnosing this malignancy remains challenging because axillary breast cancer is easily misdiagnosed as lymph node metastasis. Moreover, there are no established treatment guidelines for this disease. We present our experience with a multicentric breast cancer patient who showed different responses to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and underwent surgical treatments that differed from those in previous studies. In our case, the preoperative imaging of both lesions and subsequent core needle biopsy of each lesion were crucial, as these procedures confirm the diagnosis and help decide the chemotherapy regimen based on the subtype. After NAC, the patient underwent right breast-conserving surgery, sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB), and excision of accessory breast tissue in the right axilla. SLNB should be the initial step in staging multicentric breast cancer, unless imaging scan shows evidence of lymph node metastasis.

ABSTRACT

Narcolepsy is a clinical syndrome of hypothalamic disorder characterized by several sleep-wake disorders. The most common features include daytime sleepiness associated with hallucinations (hypnagogic and hypnopompic hallucinations) at the transition time of sleep-wake time, cataplexy or sudden loss of muscle tone, and sleep paralysis. We present a case of a patient affected with both narcolepsy and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS). POTS is a rare disorder characterized by orthostatic intolerance and abnormal autonomic response while sustaining an upright posture. In this case report, we highlight the impact of POTS on the choice of pharmacotherapy for narcolepsy.

ABSTRACT

A large number of Bacillus strains have been isolated from various environments and many of them have great potential as cell factories. However, they have been rarely developed as cell factories due to their poor transformation efficiency. In this study, we developed a highly efficient plasmid delivery system for undomesticated Bacillus strains using a modified integrative and conjugative element (MICE), which was designed to be activated by an inducer, prevent self-transfer, and deliver desired plasmids to the recipient cells. The MICE system was demonstrated to successfully introduce a gfp-containing plasmid into all 41 undomesticated Bacillus subtilis strains tested and eight other Bacillus species. The MICE was used to deliver a cytosine base editor (CBE)-based multiplex genome-editing tool for the cell factory engineering of the Bacillus species. The introduced CBE enabled one-step inactivation of the major extracellular protease genes of the tested strains. The engineered strains were used as hosts for heterologous expression of nattokinase, which resulted in various enzyme expression levels. The results suggested that the MICE and CBE systems can be powerful tools for genetic engineering of undomesticated Bacillus strains, and greatly contribute to the expansion of the Bacillus cell factory.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disease, and the incidence of IBD is increasing every year owing to changes in dietary structure. Although the exact pathogenesis of IBD is still unclear, recent evidence suggests that gut dysbiosis is closely associated with IBD pathogenesis. Cheonggukjang is a traditional Korean fermented soybean paste produced using traditional and industrial methods, and contains probiotics, which affect the gut microbiota composition. However, the protective effect of Cheonggukjang against IBD is unknown. In this study, we investigated the bacterial community structure of traditional and commercial Cheonggukjang samples, as well as the protective effect of Cheonggukjang on a dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced colitis mouse model. Traditional and commercial Cheonggukjang were found to contain various type of useful probiotics in their bacterial community structure. Cheonggukjang reduced the progression of DSS-induced symptoms, such as body weight loss, colonic shortening, disease activity index, and histological changes. Further, Cheonggukjang improved the intestinal epithelial barrier integrity on DSS-induced colitis mice. In addition, Cheonggukjang suppressed the expression of proinflammatory cytokines and inflammatory mediators through the inactivation of NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways. These results indicate that Cheonggukjang exerts protective effects against DSS-induced colitis, suggesting its possible application as a functional food for improving inflammatory diseases.

High-quality and efficient sign-outs are essential to ensure patient safety. To evaluate the impact of a new handoff tool by objective measures of handoff quality and residents' subjective experiences. Internal medicine residents working on a medical ward service completed a handoff clinical evaluation exercise (CEX) questionnaire and an anonymous survey on handoff quality and experiences prior to implementing a new handoff tool and at 2 and 6 weeks after implementation. CEX scores significantly improved from 5.3 ± 1.1 to 6.9 ± 0.7 in 6 weeks ( P < 0.05). Residents reported that they were contacted less frequently after work, information needed by the receiving resident was more often found in the sign-out, and that tasks signed out to the oncoming team were more often executed. Before implementing the new handoff tool, 87% of residents reported that they were contacted after work hours 1-2 times per week with questions, while 75% of participants reported that they were almost never contacted after work hours after the new tool was implemented. A standardized handoff tool that utilizes smart phrases to provide residents with templates for sign-out significantly improved the quality and experience of sign-out in a short time period.
