ABSTRACT

In the present paper, we discuss the taxonomy of 11 species of Plutodes Guene, [1858], collected from different regions of India, including description of one new species, P. quadratus sp. nov. Herein, we provide an identification key to all the Indian species, diagnoses and updated distributions of the studied species and a consolidated global checklist of 36 species and 2 subspecies (including 13 species from India) along with their distributions and synonyms. The study also includes downgrading of P. digitata Kirti & Saxena, 2019 as a new junior synonym of P. lamisca Swinhoe, 1894. Species diagnoses are accompanied by illustrations of habitus and genitalia, including the first time illustrated diagnoses of male genitalia of four species.

ABSTRACT

We catalogue 1,695 Indian Pyraloidea species in 509 genera. Of these, Pyralidae comprises 518 species in 182 genera, which represents 8.35% of the global Pyralidae diversity of 6,197 species. Crambidae are represented by 1,177 species in 327 genera, accounting for 11.29% of the global Crambidae diversity of 10,418 species. Botys medullalis Snellen, distributed in Indonesia, is reinstated to species status as Sciorista medullalis (Snellen), stat. rev., comb. nov. Sylepta [sic] picalis Hampson, 1903, syn. nov. is synonymised with Syllepte picalis Hampson, 1899. A replacement name Archernis polynesiae N. Singh & Mally, nom. nov. is proposed for Archernis fulvalis Hampson, 1913a, a junior homonym of Archernis fulvalis Hampson, 1899e. We review the chronology and quantity of species descriptions of Indian Pyraloidea by various authors. Summaries of all subfamilies of Pyralidae and Crambidae present in India provide information on adult and larval morphology, food plant associations, and diversity and distribution in major biogeographic zones of India.

ABSTRACT

We present a catalogue of 673 species and nine subspecies of Indian Arctiinae in 175 genera which represents 6.11% of the global Arctiinae. Out of 673 species, a monogeneric tribe Amerilini is represented by four species (0.59 % of Indian Arctiinae and 6.06 % of global Amerilini), Arctiini are known by 180 species in 38 genera (26.74 % of Indian Arctiinae and 2.73% of global Arctiini), Lithosiini comprise 419 species in 128 genera (62.25% of Indian Arctiinae and 13.30% of global Lithosiini), and Syntomini account for 70 species in eight genera (10.40 % of Indian Arctiinae and 5.83% of global Syntomini). Information related to type localities, records from India with respective literature references, and the genus/ species synonyms is provided. Brief summaries for the four tribes of Indian Arctiinae, stating their Indian genus and species diversities, diagnostic characters of imagines are also provided. Furthermore, we present data on the distribution of the Arctiinae within the biogeographic zones of India. In addition, a brief analysis of the research history of Indian Arctiinae illustrates the general patterns of when and by whom the Indian species were described.

ABSTRACT

Two new species, Sacada dzonguensis N. Singh, Kirti & Ranjan, sp. nov. and S. umtasorensis N. Singh, Kirti & Ranjan, sp. nov., are described from India. Additionally, seven species of the genus Sacada Walker, 1862 are redescribed. A new genus, Pseudosacada N. Singh, Kirti & Ranjan, gen. nov., is described to accommodate Paravetta flexuosa Snellen, 1890 (presently in Sacada). A new combination is established: Pseudosacada flexuosa (Snellen, 1890), comb. nov. Morphologically, the new genus resembles the genus Sacada and can only be diagnosed by the male genitalia. The diagnostic differences are discussed and illustrated along with adults and external male genitalia of related taxa. A world checklist and a key to the Oriental and Australasian species are provided.

ABSTRACT

A new species, B. kirata Volynkin & N. Singh, sp. nov., similar to B. germana, is described from India and Nepal. The existence of two colour forms in some species of the genus Barsine Walker, 1854 is revealed. A new synonymy is established for Barsine germana (Rothschild, 1913), which includes two forms that were described as three different species: Barsine germana (Rothschild, 1913) (the yellow form) = B. valvalis Kaleka, 2003, syn. nov., and B. thomasi Kaleka, 2003, syn. nov. (the red-spotted forms).

ABSTRACT

Miltochrista Hübner, [1819] is one of the most species-rich genera of lichen-moths belonging to the Asura/Miltochrista complex and is distributed widely in the Oriental and Palaearctic Regions. A checklist of Miltochrista (sensu lato) was recently published by Volynkin et al. (2019) and included 206 species and 10 subspecies. Four additional species have since been described by Volynkin et al. (2020). But still, the taxonomy of this large and diverse genus is poorly studied and many new species are awaiting descriptions.

ABSTRACT

The Asura/Miltochrista generic complex belongs to Lithosiini (Erebidae, Arctiinae). It is one of the most diverse and taxonomically unresolved groups of this tribe. At present, this generic complex includes about 25 valid genera, as well as several generic/specific taxa of unclear taxonomic status (Holloway 2001, Kirti Singh 2016, Volynkin 2017, Volynkin Ivanova 2017, Volynkin et al. 2017, Volynkin Cerný 2016).
