ABSTRACT

Polychromatic object recognition based on circular whitening preprocessing of red-green-blue components and multichannel matched filtering is described. Computer simulations and experimental results are provided to facilitate recognizing a color target among objects of similar shape but with different color contents. Experimental results are obtained with an optical correlator with two spatial light modulators, one to introduce the scene and the second one to introduce the filter.

ABSTRACT

Approximate filters based on a phase-only filter for reliable recognition of objects are proposed. Good light efficiency and discrimination capability close to that of the optimal filter can be obtained. Computer simulation results are presented and discussed.

ABSTRACT

A theorem for calculating the local histograms of a gray-scale input image by means of convolution of input-image binary slices with a binary kernel is presented and proved. The calculation of the local histograms of a gray-scale image for all resolution cells and its arbitrary neighborhoods is optically implemented in a shadow-casting correlator. The choice of different rank-order values from the local histograms can lead to a wide spectrum of nonlinear filtration algorithms.

ABSTRACT

Five cases are reported where under curative aspects the splenic region was irradiated during radiation therapy of lymphogranulomatosis. In the course of this treatment, a radiation load amounting to 3000 up to 4200 R focal dose occurred to the upper pole of the left kidney. A LESION OF THE LEft kidney was diagnosed not earlier than nine or twelve months afterwards in three of the patients. Two patients could be followed up as yet only four or five months. As for verification of the circumscribed radiogenic nephritis, renal scintigraphy proved the best technique to provide information. Short-term check-up examinations are necessary for the purposes of early recognition and efficient therapy of this complication, the prognosis of lymphogranulomatosis being on the whole relatively good.

ABSTRACT

The spleen is involved in 20-30 percent of patients with Hodgkin's disease. Involvement of the spleen cannot be excluded with reliability by radiological procedures or clinical chemistry. Therefore laparotomy and splenectomy are recommended as staging and therapeutic measures. In the authors's material, splenectomy showed splenic lesions in 9 out of 21 patients, mostly unexpected. Splenectomy is always indicated in stage II and should be taken into consideration in individual cases of stages I and III, too.
