ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: A patient was evaluated with respect to the effects and results of a complex treatment plan for complete dental rehabilitation. Several steps were required. Each step included immunological tests of salivary biomarkers. Clinical and immunological assessments were evaluated on Day 3, Week 2, Month 3, and Month 6 post-surgery. These evaluations guided the decision-making process with regard to preparation of a permanent prosthesis. OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study is to evaluate the response of tissues and organs of the maxillofacial region in patients during dental rehabilitation after maxillofacial surgery. METHODS: Complex treatment and rehabilitation involving cooperation between the specialists in maxillofacial surgery, prosthetic dentistry, and cancer immunology. RESULTS: Long-term monitoring and clinical examination showed a direct relationship between the patient's clinical and dental status and the changes in oral fluid biomarkers. CONCLUSION: The data revealed that the oral fluid biomarkers reflected the patient's adaptation to prosthodontic rehabilitation. Treatment and monitoring of a maxillofacial tumor patient could use biomarkers as a non-invasive indicator.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Currently, there is no available medication for immediate correction of bruise discoloration. Instead, makeup, cosmetic powders, concealers, and various traditional herbal remedies are used to mask discoloration. These approaches have no influence on the pathology behind the discoloration. The purpose of this study was to explore existing methods and current trends in correction of hemoglobin related cutaneous discoloration. METHODS: This paper describes the treatment methodologies available for proposed correction of hemoglobin related cutaneous discoloration. A thorough literature review was conducted to assess current knowledge of available treatments for bruise discoloration. RESULTS: current cosmetics being marketed under the names "Bleacher bruises," "Bleaching agents" and "Blood bleachers" addressing bruise related discoloration do not offer targeted pathological treatment. Several methods for immediate discoloration of the skin and nail plate in the area of bruising and hematoma were found, yet no method offered sufficient clinical data in support of its efficacy and safety. The intricate mechanisms of discoloration associated with hemoglobin extravascular deterioration are not targeted by any treatment method. Only one paper outlining the clinical application of bleaching agents was found. CONCLUSION: The primary blood pigments responsible for the discoloration in bruises include methemoglobin, oxyhemoglobin, carbohymoglobin, verdoglobin, biliverdin, and bilirubin. No existing method targets the degradation of hemoglobin in the area of ecchymosis. The efficacy of existing patented methods remains questionable and unsupported clinically. Future research should focus on developing a drug targeting hemoglobin derivatives, preventing discoloration at an early stage.

ABSTRACT

Three-dimensional (3D) visualization is applied throughout many specialities, prompting an important breakthrough in accessibility and modeling of data. Experimental rendering and computerized reconstruction of objects has influenced many scientific achievements, facilitating one of the greatest advancements in medical education since the first illustrated anatomy book changed specialist training forever. Modern medicine relies on detailed, high quality virtual models for educational, experimental and clinical purposes. Almost all current virtual visualization methods rely on object slicing producing serial sections, which can then be digitalized or analyzed manually. The tendency to computerize serial sections roots from convenience, accessibility, decent visualization quality and automation capabilities. Drawbacks of serial section imaging is tissue damage occurring within each consequent sectioning. To utilize the important aspects of real-life object reconstruction, and maintain integrity of biological structures, we suggest a novel method of low-temperature layering of objects for digitization and computerized virtual reconstruction. Here we show the process of consequent imaging of each novel layer of a biological object, which provides a computer with high quality data for virtual reconstruction and creation of a multidimensional real-life model. Our method prevents tissue deformation and biodegradation due to specific methods used in preparation of the biological object. The resulting images can be applied in surgical training, medical education and numerous scientific fields for realistic reconstruction of biological objects.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Breast plastic surgery is a rapidly evolving field of medicine. The modern view of surgical trends reflects the desire to minimize complications and introduce advanced technologies. These always will be priorities for surgeons. Reconstructive surgery, a branch of plastic surgery focusing on restoration of lost functional and aesthetic component, seeks to enhance psychological rehabilitation and improves the quality of life, as well as aesthetic recovery. OBJECTIVE: This review addresses the action of fibrin agents and their effect on the quality of surgical hemostasis. DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: The fundamental goals for the surgeon are to perform a minimally traumatic intervention and to prevent any form of complication. Achieving complete hemostasis is an intraoperative necessity. Timely prevention of bleeding and hemorrhagic phenomena can affect not only the outcome of the operation, but also the incidence of postoperative complications. Topics include the integrity of microvascular anastomoses, tissue adhesion, and the incidence of seromas and hematomas associated with fibrin glue usage. The literature on fibrin adhesives with respect to prevention of postoperative complications, and the effectiveness with active drainage also are analyzed.

BACKGROUND: There is a dearth of published information on the posterior perforated substance as compared to the anterior perforated substance. We managed to glean facts about the posterior perforated substance that can serve as a landmark for surgical operations in the adjacent regions of the midbrain and the vessels passing through it. Moreover, the posterior perforated substance contains the interpeduncular nucleus responsible for the mental state of the individual. OBJECTIVES: 1) To describe the topography of the blood vessels supplying the posterior perforated substance area from the surgical point of view; 2) to investigate the functions of the interpeduncular nucleus. METHODS: We assembled and analyzed results from source databases by Elsevier, NCBI MedLine, Scopus, Scholar. Google and Embase. Each article was studied in detail for practically useful information about the posterior perforated substance. RESULTS: The P1-segment perforating branches of the posterior cerebral artery supply the posterior perforated substance. This area is especially vulnerable in the case of vascular pathologies. The posterior communicating artery can block the surgeon's view and impede maneuverability of the tool in the area of the posterior perforated substance, which may be addressed using the separation technique, which can lead to positive results. In addition, the medial habenula-interpeduncular nucleus in the posterior perforated substance is associated with various addictions and psychiatric conditions. CONCLUSION: The posterior perforated substance area is of great interest for surgical interventions. Future studies of the interpeduncular nucleus anticipate the development of drugs to affect different types of dependencies and some mental diseases.
