ABSTRACT

On the basis of the analysis of plasmapheresis (PPh) influence on clinical and functional and immunological indices in 105 patients with bronchial asthma the authors have come to the conclusion that PPh effect is the number-of-procedures-dependent. The most pronounced effect occurred in those groups having been given three to five PPh procedures. The above effect begins to reveal itself during the first postoperative week but the greatest positive changes take place between the 7th and the 14th days. As it won't make any difference whether three or five PPh sessions are conducted, the authors recommend plasmapheresis to be done on a three-procedure basis.

ABSTRACT

A comprehensive clinical-and-immunological evaluation was done of efficiency of treatment of patients with severe forms of bronchial asthma (BA) by hemosorption through donor porcine spleen, xenosorption (XS), in 63 patients. XS was found out to have a marked positive clinical effect manifested by a considerable decrease of frequency of asphyxiation bouts and amounts of inhalation broncholytics being taken within the first 24 hours after the procedure. By day 14 from the start of XS we succeeded in lowering the systemic corticosteroids maintenance dose on the average 2.5 times as little. Positive clinical dynamics correlated with positive immunologic changes which revealed themselves in normalization of numbers as well as functional activity of T-cells, rise in T-helpers, normalization of content of serum immunoglobulins A, M and G, with the parameters characterizing the system of phagocytosis approaching the norm, the processes of autoimmunization getting more attenuated.

ABSTRACT

The authors studied comparative clinical, immunologic, laboratory and functional effectiveness of hemosorption (HS) on charcoals and xenosorption (XS) on donor pig spleen in bronchial asthma patients. XS was administered in 60 patients, HS was applied to 91 patient. There was no significant difference in immunologic characteristics between the patient groups. However, XS had a more apparent positive influence on the external respiratory function, degree of allergy and unspecific inflammation, as well as on general clinical effectiveness.

ABSTRACT

64 patients with infectious-allergic bronchial asthma (IABA) were examined. 20 of them were co-administered paspat, 24 patients additionally received prodigiosan, 20 patients constituted control group and were given conventional treatment. Patients of all the groups were comparable in age, state of immunological reactivity of the body and severity of the disease. Immunomodulatory effect of the drugs, mainly of paspat, not only resulted in normalization of functional properties of granulocytes but also promoted liquidation of quantitative and functional IABA-conditioned immunodeficiency on the part of T- and B-lymphocytes, thus increasing effectiveness of the treatment in the whole.

ABSTRACT

Ultraviolet irradiation of blood studied in 201 patients with various forms of bronchial asthma proved to be the most effective in "aspirin" and infectious-allergic forms of the disease. Analysis of immunological changes showed that ultraviolet irradiation of blood brings to the norm content of IgG in serum, influence beneficially quantity and functional activity of T-lymphocytes, reduces auto-immunization and sensibilization to Streptococcus.

ABSTRACT

Efficacy of the home-made inhalant preparation "Tricort-aerosol" in 30 patients with moderate and severe bronchial asthma was assessed. Clinical, functional and immunological measures have been analyzed in the course of treatment with the drug. Administration of the drug in complex therapy was proved to be advisable in patients with different forms of bronchial asthma.

ABSTRACT

A test group of 40 patients and a control group of 20 matched controls with pulmonary cancer and suppuration were exposed to preoperative and postoperative electromyostimulation (EMS) with adjuvant intravascular laser radiation of the blood (ILRB) to prevent thromboembolism versus conventional chemotherapy, respectively. At the preoperative examination all the patients exhibited secondary immunodeficiency. It was found that introduction of EMS and ILRB corrects immunity and activates fibrinolysis. A positive trend in coagulation is also attributed to immunomodulating effects of EMS and ILRB.

ABSTRACT

An immunological study of 163 patients with different forms of bronchial asthma revealed a distinct disturbance of the cellular link of immunity in these patients. Vilosen (a native non-protein immunomodulator extracted from the thymus of animals) possessing a prevailing action on T-cells was used for correction of the immune disorders. It was found that vilosen proved effective in the complex treatment of patients with atopic associated forms of bronchial asthma.

ABSTRACT

The criteria of differential administration of thymalin in the combined management of patients with destructive pulmonary tuberculosis were defined on the basis of immunologic studies. A ++clinico-roentgenologic and immunologic evaluation of in-patient treatment of 60 cases demonstrated that a differential administration of thymalin in combination with chemotherapeutic drugs greatly shortened the stay at a hospital and increased the efficacy of treatment. Besides, more evident normalizing influence of the proposed option of therapy on the recovery of the immune system links is noted.

ABSTRACT

Seventy-eight tuberculin-positive schoolchildren at the age of 7 to 15 years from tuberculosis foci living in special institutions of the sanatorium type were subjected to immunological examination. The control group included 22 noninfected children of the same age. Persons with lower counts of T-lymphocytes and their decreased functional activity, unbalance in their subpopulation composition and positive immunospecific responses to tuberculin predominated among the schoolchildren subjected to the examination. The state of the B-lymphocyte system changed insignificantly. It was concluded that persons with markedly suppressed cellular immunity be treated with immunomodulating agents during the chemoprophylaxis course.

ABSTRACT

The effect of various doses of rifampicin on intensity of rosette formation was studied, and the immunological criteria for selective use of the drug in combined specific chemotherapy of extended destructive tuberculosis of the lungs were determined. It was shown that differential use of rifampicin with an account of its administration multiplicity and route promoted a decrease in the hospitalization terms and increased rate of discontinuation of tubercle bacilli isolation and cavern healing. The clinicoroentgenological findings were confirmed by the immunological tests characterizing various elements of the immunity system in patients.

ABSTRACT

Follow up of 93 patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis and bronchial asthma enabled the authors to trace the effect of magnetophorotherapy combined with pathogenetic treatment on the disease progress, external respiration function, cardiovascular system, and immune responsiveness. It was shown that magnetophorotherapy is an effective therapy for bronchial obstruction, favouring the recovery and improvement of respiratory function, characteristics of the flow-volume curve. It also exerts a beneficial effect on different components of immunity.
