ABSTRACT

A topographic anatomical study of 80 cadavers has suggested a new method of surgical treatment for paralytic neurogenic bladder developing as a result of an injury of lumbosacral regions of the spine or horse-tail roots. The method consists in the remuscularization of neurogenic bladder by grafts, tailored from the outer parts of abdominal musculus rectus with supplying lower epigastric vessels. Twenty-one operations were performed using this method. Controlled micturition was recovered within 3 or 4 weeks. The volume of residual urine never exceeded 50 ml. Pyelonephritic attacks ceased.

ABSTRACT

One hundred patients with trauma of the spine and spinal cord of different severity and localization were subjected to neurological examination in various periods after the injury. The values of renal plasma flow, blood flow, glomerular filtration, and tubular reabsorption were found to be reduced depending on the level and severity of the damage to the spinal cord and the developmental stage of pyelonephritis (acute, latent, intermittent or chronic pyelonephritis with chronic renal insufficiency). It was also found that pyelonephritis follows a favourable course for many years after the trauma.

ABSTRACT

Results are given of determination by means of a Minsk-22 electronic computer of the probabilistic characteristics and correlation coefficients for some parameters of the background EEG (frontal-occipital records) in a group of healthy subjects. The parameters studied (the number and amplitude of alpha- and other waves) are subject to the normal law of distribution of random values. A probabilistic model of background EEG has been plotted. Correlations between the factors of the statistic model of background EEG have been studied. The results presented in the paper may prove useful in studying the EEG characteristics and the functional state of the brain.
