ABSTRACT

A study of 108 patients with chronic obstructive lung diseases revealed in 36 of them concomitant hypertensive disease. This association is accompanied by a benign course of each of these diseases. A study of the central hemodynamics showed the presence of hemodynamic changes typical of hypertensive disease.

ABSTRACT

Dependence of the duration of right-ventricular isometric relaxation phase (IRP) on right ventricular systolic pressure (SP) and heart rate was studied. IRP was measured using echography of the tricuspid valve and SP value was determined according to the data of heart venous catheterization. Examination included 30 patients with chronic inflammatory pulmonary diseases. A low dependence was found between IRP, SP and HR, which is of little use for the indirect establishment of the pressure value in pulmonary circulation. Errors during right-ventricular SP measurement using methods based on the IRP analysis show their unreliability. A method for measuring pressure value in pulmonary circulation has been suggested which is based on the data of echography. Despite the high correlative coefficient of the estimated and actual values, the method makes it possible to obtain only the approximate data.

ABSTRACT

The ways of developing the mortality rate from respiratory and cardiovascular diseases have been studied in the Ukrainian SSR according to the data of the Bureau (Centre) of Health Statistics, Ministry of Health of the Ukrainian SSR, analysis of 18 thousand of death certificates in a number of regions of the Republic, analysis of materials of 545 autopsies in persons aged 75 and over. As a result of the studies conducted it was found that the mortality rate from respiratory diseases did not reflect the real mortality. The main inaccuracies in defining respiratory diseases as a cause of death were found in the age group of 60 and over and especially in the group of 75 years and over as the diagnoses in this age group were practically not verified.

ABSTRACT

The authors propose a new method of morphometric evaluation of the gastric mucosa in chronic gastritis. Five morphometric criteria are the basis for differential diagnosis of chronic gastritis. Results are analyzed of examination of 192 histological specimens from the gastric lesser curvature in ulcer and cancer of the stomach. The nonspecificity is shown of chronic gastritis of the lesser gastric curvature in the mentioned diseases.

ABSTRACT

Acute tuberculous intoxication in rabbits was accompanied by impairment of energy metabolism in the vessel walls: lower intensity of oxidative processes and higher activity of glycolysis. In the arteries which are vessels highly sensitive to sclerotic affections the observed metabolic disorders were much more pronounced than in the veins which are vessels resistant to angiosclerosis.

ABSTRACT

The article deals with the effect of insulin which was incorporated into lecithin-cholesterol (molar ratio 9 : 2) liposomes, administered per os to normal and diabetic Wistar rats on the blood glucose level. The blood glucose level 1.5 h after the administration of insulin is shown to decrease significantly in diabetic rats. The maximum effect is observed 3 h after and then the blood glucose level gradually increases, being considerably lower than the control one 20 h after as well. Insulin in liposomes when given orally has no hypoglycaemic effect in the normal rats. A slight but statistically significant decrease in the blood glucose level is determined in the diabetic rats after administration per os of liposome-absorbed insulin. The blood glucose level is practically the same as in the control when insulin is administered to the normal rats. Possible mechanisms of the insulin action in liposomes are discussed.
