ABSTRACT

Studies of blood and salivary fibronectin levels and the total biochemical status have revealed poor reparation potentialities of the body in the patients with various diseases of the buccal mucosa coursing along with somatic diseases (cardiovascular and gastrointestinal) in the remission stage. Bearing in mind a significant role of fibronectin in the reparation processes, the authors suggest local fibronectin therapy as part of combined treatment for buccal mucosa diseases.

ABSTRACT

Collagenolytic activity (CA) in cervical fluid of patients with inflammation of periodontium was increased with increasing activity of the pathological process. Enhanced CA in patients with severe forms of periodontitis is probably due to depletion of endogenous inhibitors and to the transition of the latent collagenase to its active form. Studies of the effect of EDTA, PMSF and PCMB on CA show that proteinases are an essential factor in inflammation of periodontium.

ABSTRACT

Studies of functional changes in the salivary glands of patients with mandibular fractures treated with intermandibular immobilization have shown that the major factors responsible for these changes were not only the absence of chewing, changed quality and quantity of food, but the duration of immobilization and viscero-visceral reactions of the body as well.

ABSTRACT

The authors sum up the experience gained in tactivin therapy of patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis and analyze the effects of this drug on the patients' cellular and humoral immunity. Thirty patients with various forms of the condition were subcutaneously injected tactivin in a dose of 40 micrograms for 10 days. Biochemical parameters were virtually unchanged after therapy, whereas the immunity parameters evidenced essential shifts in humoral and cellular immunity. Clinical and laboratory data indicate a sufficiently high immunocorrective effect of tactivin in therapy of patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis.

ABSTRACT

The authors assess the therapeutic efficacy of kemantan, an immunomodulator, used in the treatment of 30 patients with severe stubborn recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS). The blood immunological and biochemical characteristics were checked up over the course of treatment. Clinical and laboratory studies have shown that this immunocorrective agent is sufficiently effective for fibrous and cicatrizing RAS running a permanent course: the periods of the pathologic elements epithelialization are shortened, the permanent course of the condition is interrupted and the remissions are prolonged; clinical cure has been achieved in a number of cases. Kemantan is indicated for RAS patients only in cases with immunologic insufficiency, with immunologic responses monitored over the course of the treatment.

ABSTRACT

The effect of nonenzymatic fibrinolysis of the blood and its complexes (epinephrine-heparin and serotonin-heparin) on the fibrinolytic activity is shown. An increase in fibrinolytic activity of the blood of patients with chronic relapsing aphthous stomatitis is a protective reaction of the body in distrophic changes. Intensification of fibrinolysis is a factor which aggravates the course of chronic relapsing aphthous stomatitis and inhibits reparative processes during its treatment.

ABSTRACT

Experiments on dogs were made to simulate aphthous process on the oral mucosa by occlusion of the common bile duct. The content of adrenaline, noradrenaline, serotonin, histamine and ascorbic acid was measured during the development of pathological process in the areas of oral mucosa tissue characterized by most frequent appearance of aphthas and in the tissue of the duodenal, small and large intestine mucosa. The magnitude of the characteristics indicated was determined 2, 6 and 12 h and 1, 3, 7 and 10 days after operation. Aphthas appeared on the 3d day. Within the first hours of the experiment there was a considerable increase in the content of noradrenaline, adrenaline and serotonin in the oral mucosa accompanied by a reduction in the histamine and ascorbic acid content. In the intestinal mucosa, shifts in the correlations between the hormones and transmitters were less pronounced. During aphthas appearance, the histamine content rose whereas other parameters decreased. The period of the reverse development was characterized by the recovery of the correlations of the hormones under study and transmitters.
