ABSTRACT

Radionuclide label was used to study the effects of various vacuum therapy schemes on the protein and mineral metabolism in periodontal tissues. Vacuum therapy was found to normalize Ca, P, and protein metabolism in spontaneous atrophy of the alveolar processes in white rats. Focal dosed vacuum was found the most effective. These data will be used to develop a complex of measures to prevent atrophies of the maxillary alveolar processes.

ABSTRACT

Calculations of economic loss costs due to procedures for helminth detection and the out-patient treatment of recognized cases of enterobiasis, hymenolepiasis, taeniasis, ascariasis, trichocephaliasis in the Uzbek SSR in 1985 were made as were the costs of inpatient treatment in the specialized clinics in 1986 with account for the loss due to the related decrease in the national output and payments for disability. Their total turned to be about 1.8 million rubles.

ABSTRACT

In 1981-1984 in Uzbekistan (the Navoi and Khorezm Provinces, the Karakalpak ASSR) 463 cases of bites by Latrodectus tredecimguttatus have been registered (372 cases, in 1983). The highest number of bites was observed at the end of May and the first half of July. Mild and subacute intoxications prevailed. No fatal outcomes were registered. The L. tredecimguttatus bites occurred mostly during the night sleep in the tents. A high number of spiders in the pastures (3-4 specimens per sq. meter) was due to abundant atmospheric precipitation and heat in 1980-1982. The treatment of spiders' accumulation sites with 2.0% chlorophos solution or 12.0% HCCH dust killed the spiders, which resulted in considerable decrease in the number of registered intoxication cases.

ABSTRACT

It was demonstrated that with respect to the psychoemotional state real and simulated catapulting events were similar. The time-course variations in the latent period of the motor reaction were obtained. The time interval between the command "Go" and the catapulting event was found to increase significantly in relation to the latent period. This was correlated with the level of psychoemotional strain.

ABSTRACT

The activity of alkaline and acid phosphatases, RNases, DNase, BAEE-esterase, tissue proteases, peroxidase was determined in the oral cavity mucosa of rats and dogs. The essential topographical differences in the studied activity and its species peculiarities are found. The enzymic heterogeneity of the oral cavity mucosa may affect the frequency and the character of development of different pathological processes in it.

ABSTRACT

Mechanical trauma of rat parotid gland led to an increase in the size of the gland (due to edema) with simultaneous activation of unspecific proteases, which were estimated at pH 7.6 using casein as a substrate. Administration of kallikrein-like salivary enzyme salivain into non-traumatized parotid gland caused also the same alterations. Complex application of two factors (trauma and salivain) resulted in distinct increase of the gland edema and the proteolytic activity. Administration of trasilol (inhibitor of proteases) decreased the pathogenic effects of salivain. After administration of salivain the alkaline phosphatase activity was shown to decrease in the parotid salivary gland.

ABSTRACT

Increase in the weight of rat parotid glands, decrease in the protein concentration and the activity of alpha-amylase with simultaneous activation of the proteolytic enzymes (caseinolytic activity at pH 7.6, activity of cathepsins at pH 5.5) were observed in pyo-traumatic parotiditis. Local administration of the protease inhibitor (contrical) or intramuscular treatment with trypsin showed the positive medical effect--decrease of the gland weight, increase in the protein concentration and in the alpha-amylase activity together with lowering in the activity of proteinases. Intramuscular administration of antimicrobic enzymes (lysozyme, RNase, DNAase) did not affect the pyo-traumatic parotiditis. Application of proteolytic enzymes or their inhibitors is recommended for clinical treatment of parotidites.

ABSTRACT

After partial or total removal of salivary glands, parotid glands secreted practically the whole amount of alpha-amylase, DN-ase, and major portion of RN-ase, the submandibular glands providing more than 2/3 of the whole production of salivain. Comparison of output of enzymes with or without pilocarpin stimulation showed parotid glands to be the glands with periodical secretion and submandibular glands--with permanent secretion.
