ABSTRACT

AIM: To evaluate the sensitivity and specificity of digital breast tomosynthesis compared with full-field digital mammography in detection of breast cancer presenting as a mass in women with dense breasts. Маterials and Methods: This study included 347 asymptomatic and symptomatic patients with dense breasts who underwent full-field digital mammography, digital breast tomosynthesis and hand-held full breast ultrasound. 57 core-needle biopsies were performed. Pathology included 31 invasive cancers and 26 non-cancerous lesions. RESULTS: Sensitivity of full-field digital mammography was 61.3% [0.422-0.789] and sensitivity of digital breast tomosynthesis was 77.4% [0.589-0.904]. Specificity of full-field digital mammography was 92.7% [0.893-0.953] that was 2.2% lower than the specificity of digital breast tomosynthesis - 94.9% [0.919-0.971]. CONCLUSION: Results of our study showed superior sensitivity and specificity of digital breast tomosynthesis compared to full-field digital mammography for detection of malignant masses in women with dense breasts.

ABSTRACT

With the objective to improve the diagnostic semiotics of an acute pancreatitis (AP) 35 patients were examined, using 64-cut computeric tomograph Lightspeed VCT (GE, USA) with intravenous augmentation in arterial and portal phases. Basing on analysis of the investigations conducted, using multidetector computeric tomography (MDCT), the AP semiotics was systematized, which is characteristic for oedematous and destructive forms, diagnosed in 19 (44.2%) and 16 (45.8%) patients, accordingly. The procedure for estimation of preservation of the organ functional capacity in pancreonecrosis pres- ence was elaborated, promoting rising of the method diagnostic efficacy by 5.3 - 9.4%.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To examine the effects of electromagnetic field with amplified magnetic component and local inductive hyperthermia (IH) on nonlinear dynamics of the growth of animal tumors. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Guerin carcinoma, Lewis lung carcinoma, sarcoma 45, Walker 256 carcinosarcoma and Pliss lymphosarcoma were studied. The animal tumors were exposed inside of loop aerial, 3 cm in diameter locally for 30 min. Parameters of electromagnetic irradiation (EI): frequency 40 MHz, magnetic intensity 72 A/m, electric intensity 200 V/m and the output power 50 W. The temperature measured by immersion of thermocouple inside the center of the tumor didn't exceed 38.5-39.5 degrees C. Nonlinear dynamics of the growth of animal tumors was analyzed by autocatalytic equation. The heterogeneity of ultrasonic image of the tumor was analyzed by Moran spatial autocorrelation. RESULTS: The strongest inhibition effect under the influence of EI was in Pliss lymphosarcoma and sarcoma 45. The growth stimulation of animal tumors after EI was recorded in Walker 256 carcinosarcoma. The use of mild IH increased the blood flow in the tumor of Guerin carcinoma. CONCLUSION: These results are important for clinical application because they testify the necessity of optimization of schemes for local EI during anticancer neoadjuvant therapy with the use of drugs or magnetic nanoparticles. The use of mild IH as a basis for the monotherapy of malignant tumors is not expedient.

ABSTRACT

The types of neoplasm cells resistance to therapeutic agents and causes of its development are described and discussed in the article. The special attention is taken on radioresistance of normal and malignant cells. Resistance peculiarities, modern approaches to make malignant cells more sensitive to therapy as well as determination of tumor sensitivity during treatment and after the treatment are discussed in the article.

ABSTRACT

Data of examination of 60 patients with inflammatory tumor of uterine tubes and adjacent organs of small pelvis, which occurred on background of application of intrauterine remedies of contraception, were analyzed. The causes adduced, clinical signs and differential diagnosis have permitted to verify the diagnosis and to conduct proper treatment.
