ABSTRACT

A study of 150 coronary patients demonstrated compromized athrombogenic endothelial properties, as compared to normal subjects whose vascular wall endothelial cells show high anti-aggregation and anti-coagulant activity and prevent intravascular platelet aggregation. The cuff test performed in coronary patients during acute myocardial infarction or an anginal attack induced no release of prostacycline, antithrombin III or plasminogen activators from endothelial cells into the blood flow. Coronary patients demonstrated intravascular platelet activation, impaired platelet release and increased factor 4, thromboxane B2 and beta-thromboglobulin levels.

ABSTRACT

The influence of ionizing radiation (gamma-rays 60Co) on aggregation activity of the vascular wall and functional (aggregation) platelet activity was studied in the course of the development of acute radiation sickness. The decrease in the aggregation properties of the vascular wall and high functional activity of platelets were inversely proportional, correlating with the periods of acute radiation sickness development and depending on the radiation dose. It is suggested that the changes detected may play a role in the pathogenesis of the development of the postirradiation thrombohemorrhagic syndrome.

ABSTRACT

A study was made of the effect of burn injury on aggregation properties of the vascular wall and platelet aggregation capacity. Maximal accumulation of malonic dialdehyde during thrombin-induced aggregation, maximal rise of the spontaneous intravascular platelet aggregation index, and the most remarkable functional lesions of the vascular wall were observed in the early period (within the first hours), at the disease height (day 7), and during the recovery (day 30). Variation of the homestatic balance between the prostacycline- and thromboxane-generating systems of the blood vessels and platelets in the disease early period is linked with stress reaction and release of biologically active substances (adrenaline, cortisone) to the circulation, whereas at the disease height with marked inflammation and emergence in the blood of endotoxin and break down products of cell membrane phospholipids.
