ABSTRACT

Pityrosporum pachydermatis could be isolated out of a smear taken from the auditory meatus. The occurrence of this zoophilic species prompted us to discuss the systematic position and nomenclature of pityrosporum yeasts in man.

ABSTRACT

The diagnosis of gonococci in vitro is reliable and simple nowadays. Investigations are still based on direct microscopic control and on culturing. With the help of coagglutination by monoclonal antibodies and enzymatically controlled color reactions, we are able to take Neisseria gonorrhoeae apart from other gram-negative and oxidase-positive diplococci. In the therapy of common gonorrhea, we now use antibiotics more recently developed than penicillin. The complicated extragenital and disseminated forms of the disease require special modes of treatment usually provided in hospital.

ABSTRACT

Observations by the author and other workers on exotic mycoses in Germany are used in order to establish several groups of patients. The following mycoses from tropical and subtropical areas and their causative agents are mentioned: Tinea nigra (Cladosporium werneckii), south American blastomycosis (Paracoccidioides brasiliensis), coccidioidomycosis (Coccidioides immitis), histoplasmosis (Histoplasma capsulatum), mycetoma (Madurella mycetomi), dermatophytosis/tinea capitis (Trichophyton soudanense, Trichophyton violaceum, Microsporum ferrugineum), sporotrichosis (Sporothrix schenckii), chromomycosis (Fonsecaea pedrosoi).

ABSTRACT

A second case of tinea nigra occuring in Germany is recorded. The patient was a 33 year old women, who supposedly acquired the infection in Israel, which was not diagnosed until two years after the onset. Scrapings from a dark macule on her sole yielded Cladosporium werneckii. The lesion cleared with topical treatment of a keratinolytic ointment and a haloprogin-cream.
