ABSTRACT

Influenza A virus reaches a great variety of animals species and it is the only one that implies in pandemics, promoting in human being an illness presented from mild to severe. Influenza affects people of all ages, however, the highest incidence is observed among children of school age. During this epidemic, deceases occurred most frequently between young adults previously healthy, when the case fatality rate was 0,85%. It was done a Cross-sectional study of Influenza H1N1 cases reported to the Vigilância Epidemiológica Municipal and Serviço de Vigilância e Controle de Infecção Hospitalar do Hospital Universitário de Taubaté, in the period from June to October 2009 in Taubaté, SP. It was verified that womankind was predominantly attained and among women in childbearing age, 39,1% were pregnant. Approximately half cases were hospitalized and from these ones, 15,4% died due to Influenza. No statistic significance was found for geographic distribution among census tracts in the city of Taubaté
